In CS4, holding the spacebar down when using another tool for panning does not work, in photoshop or anything else. Works fine when pan tool itself is selected. Very irritating behavior. I've used photoshop since v6, so I'm pretty use to the way it works. Same in Illustrator, InDesign, InCopy, and Acrobat.
View 3 RepliesI'm using PS5 version 12.1 and I'm arranging a lot of layers so I do a lot of zooming and then hitting the space bar to move around. But 90% of the time I get kicked into birds eye view. And I know for a fact that the hotkey for Birds Eye View is 'H' This extra step of getting kicked into birds eye view whenever I want to pan is tossing a monkey wrench into my workflow.

I tried switching from my wireless iMac keyboard to my wired Apple keyboard; replaced preference files; booted from several other partitions (that share the same Photoshop app); checked the character palette for kerning and tracking; and tried different fonts.
It may be that I have to trash the preference files and completely reset them... but I sure hope not.I've tried two backup preference files .
I just downloaded the CC trial for photoshop, then started using the elliptical marquee tool but when I try to use the spacebar to move the selection the selection will only move a few pixels then wont move at all. Also i have the screen flickering problem.

When working on a document (in PS cs6) and pressing the spacebar to quickly access the hand tool it doesn't do anything.
What I've tried so far:
-resetting the presets
-change the shortcut key (wasn't possible)
-reinstall

I am using the type tool in Photoshop CS6 (windows XP pro) and I am running into this weird issue. I have never seen anything like it before. It isn't my keyboard or computer, it only happens in Photoshop. When I am typing and I mess up and use backspace to delete a character, the next character I type in gets doubled. Random letters will pop up as well - such as when I type "S", the letter "U" shows up... when I press the spacebar, it adds an extra letter instead of a space (the following letter or previous letter used). The cursor gets placed before that second character too. I can delete it using backspace or delete but then if I press spacebar to continue, it shows up again and again. I can't get rid of the extra characters!
I've tried activating and de-activating various key locks on my keyboard to no avail. Is there some button I pushed or weird formatting I somehow accidently implemented?
Running the CS6 trial on a Windows 7 Laptop (x64). I was in Photoshop (64), and noticed that when I held down the spacebar to pan the open image, the hand icon would show but the tool will not work. No matter how many times I click and drag, the image stays still. If I select the MANUALLY select the hand tool it works, but the spacebar shortcut key is non-functional. This issue persists across both the 32 & 64 bit versions of Photoshop.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a mac air 10.8.3 with cs6 V13.1.2 x64. The machine is running fine. I use an external usb apple keyboard, which is brand new (having just been returned from apple after a warranty case).
Launching Photoshop causes the space bar, the enter key, the up-down-left-right keys to become unresponsive to the entire operating system, even after photoshop is closed. Restarting the mac resolves the issue. Photoshop is the only foreground application launched, nothing else is running (other than background services and things like dropbox, sip, etc).
The issue affects both the external usb keyboard, and the in-built keyboard.I have tried deleting my photoshop prefs file, which makes no difference.
I have noted that bringing up the keyboard viewer ( Keyboard preferences > 'show keyboard & character viewers in menu bar'; then from the icon choosing 'Show keyboard viewer' ) will not show the key as being depressed. CLICKING on the SPACEBAR key, the ENTER or ARROW KEYS in the keyboard viewer also does not work!
I've always used the spacebar as Enter, it speeds up the way i work.I've just load 2013 and i'm using the Drafting & Annotation workspace, now when i use the spacebar it jumps to another command, i have to use the enter key to get it to do what i want.For example.
Type H, (spacebar), S, (Spacebar).
This should be - Hatch > Select,
instead i get 'Hatch' then it cancels the hatch commands and jumps to 'Stretch'
I am running CC on an iMac with Mavericks. It is a brand new system. My spacebar hand tool seems to be disabled. I have tried opening Illy while holding Shift/Option/Command.I have disabled the Command/Spacebar shortcut in Spotlight..The tool doesn't work in Photoshop either. That is one feature of Illustrator that I do like when I use that program.
I can use the pen tool, hold down spacebar to move the image then when I release the spacebar it automatically goes back to the pen tool or whatever tool you are using.

For years I've been able to hit the spacebar while dimensioning to cancel the appearance of a dimension. For some strange reason, this no longer works and when I hit the spacebar, the dimension process won't continue unless I hit enter and of course it then shows the dimension I didn't want to appear. I can over ride a dimension on the fly, but in this case I just don't want the dimension to appear. I'm thinking a Dimvar got changed.

While using the pen tool, moving the current anchor point by hold down the spacebar, is a great time-saver and I use it frequently. But I find it a little frustrating that, when closing a path, the "spacebar" feature does not work. Instead, the apposing direction point goes whacko. Is there an alternate keyboard shortcut to overcome it? Even though I "know" it won't work, I seem unable to resist holding the spacebar to fine-tune the last anchor point.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince Inventor 2010, the spacebar has the functionality of repeating the last command. We have an add-in that requires typing a short phrase. (You can see where this is headed)
Whenever you use the spacebar to seperate the words in the phrase, a new addin form opens in front of the old one.
This add-in is employing the WordWrapper code that Brian submitted some time ago to clear up a similiar issue when you used the Enter key, but the spacebar problem persists
Is there a way to disable this funtion? Or work around it?
I've only recently begun having this problem, less than a week ago.Having used CS3, and having had CS4 for a while, I've been continually using it, bot now, it turns on my spacebar and sticks it in the "ON" position. Closing Photoshop doesn't help, as the spacebar is continually stuck on.
Nothing is new, tablet's the same, keyboard's the same, have had all hardware + software components for roughly the same amount of time, but it's only begun acting like this now. Just as an example, when I mean the spacebar is stuck on,
I mean that everything typed looks like "            t h  i s    " and the spacebar is simply just autopressed, but it's not a physical problem on my keyboard, and ONLY occurs when I open up Photoshop; no text-box is safe, nor any menu; in fact, because the spacebar is 'on', I don't even bother to open an internet window, as it of course, automatically scrolls down to the bottom of the pages.Restarting the computer fixes the problem, until I want to do anything in Photoshop again. ;c Suggestions/fixes?

I started to get this strange error with my Photoshop when making a new document in Photoshop and got the following error: "cannot initiate Photoshop because Photoshop cannot create any more windows".
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to reinstall (Photoshop needs reinstalling extremely often unfortunately), but now when I try and open the program it just give an alert beep and closes back up. Even though I rarely use ImageReady, I opened that up to check and it does the same behavior.
Can anyone tell me what color settings I need to set in photoshop in order to avoid this from happening? It only happens once in a while and I don't know what I've done to fix it or screw it up. What happens is that when I'm in photoshop and I do a "save for web" my document jumps to image ready and when viewing '2 up' for optimization purposes and comparison, I realize that the original view is actually duller in color and does not look like the original in photoshop. The blacks are definitely not as black.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen I got my first Macintosh IICX and all of my MacPaint clip art. I don't want to get rid of the clip art because since I'm still using a black ink printer and not upgrading to a color one, the clip art looks nice in newsletters and the like.
Up until this time I had been using SuperPaint which had the New Superbits editing plug-in to refine the pictures so they had the smoother and cleaner lines instead of looking jagged. With my new computer and printer, I'm also getting Photoshop CS packaged with Adobe Creative Suite Premium, which I have never used before. Since I have not received my order yet, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Photoshop has the capability of improving the older MacPaint clip art like SuperPaint did with the New SuperBits editing plug-in. Over the past two days, I have been trying like crazy to back-up my pictures with SuperPaint and then re-saving them with Graphic Converter. It's been so incredibly slow that I thought I would go ahead and ask you, the experts, if Photoshop can also improve the quality of my older MacPaint clip art or if I should continue to back-up my clip art like I have been doing.
I have just got back from the Elbow gig and pulled the images off the card. They load up in Bridge but don't have actual picture thumbnails. They are named correctly, ie: IMG_3483.CR2 but they won't open!? Error message says 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file'
I could see them on the back of the camera.
mac users... i did a software update the other day and I noticed that there was an update for ACR. Could it have been something to do with that? And why can't I find ACR in my Applications?

View 3 Replies View Related of Adobe Photoshop v6.0.1 (quite old, I know, but it do all I want and on my old HW I did not plan/want to use any more recent version, because they are HUGE and with just a little preferences trick, I did not need to reinstall my PS - ever ), yet as Czech user, I need my software to type some special characters as well. These are looking like this:

Now the only problem is, that some of them PS just refuse to type. Seven small and seven caps are just wrong. See the line "for PS:"...
I battled the problem even by editing the fonts itsels, because that seems to work with Adobe Illustrator, yet this also cause the edited fonts to be useless in another programs. So I looked deeply and in the Adobe settings in directory Fonts / Reqrd are directory CMaps and perhaps editing the character map used will be better and usable solution? how to do it or even determine with file from the 96 files in the CMaps directory are right now used by Adobe Photoshop?
Everytime I open my CS6, it always show " Could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)" I reinstalled it but it is still popping out.
