Photoshop :: Reference Point Location Jumps To Cursor When Moving Active Transform Layer?
Aug 1, 2013
I have a layer I'm resizing and is currently in Transform. When I beging to drag the layer to position while it is in resize the center reference point will jump to my mouse causing me to move the reference point outside of the tranform layer. Normally I would have to click on the reference point and drag it intentionally or hold CTRL and click in the transformed layer to set a reference point, but it since CS6 is had still remainded in CC.
This happens when I transform the layer (Ctrl+T) and then grab the layer to move. I have to put the reference point back to center via mouse or by the reference point on the menu bar up top. Then I can go back and drag my later where I need it to finish my transform.

The Transform Reference point indicator in the options bar is set by default to the center point. I need for it to be upper left, but am having to manually change it with each use. How can I change the default setting on this?

I am trying to create a pattern that I have created in previous itterations of Illustrator. In CC when I create a triangle (either via Star, Poly, or Pen tool) and then try to rotate it via Transform Each > Transform again, the rotation point moves according to what the bounding box would be if I reset it, rather than staying in one (original) spot relative to the actual bounding box and triangle. I cannot find any settings that would be affecting the rotate point in this way. I am pretty confident that I am using the same procedure now that I did in older versions of Illustrator. Perhaps I am using the wrong procedure.
Naturally, if you are rotating something around its center you should expect that it would end up create a circular pattern. It is more of a square with concave sides. The red is a perfect circle that I grouped to the triangle to demonstrate the rotate points movement. It is located in the exact center according to the align tools.

I know this. I am aware. This is why I avoid changing the reference point as much as possible if I have profile views or anything else dependent on my alignment. I also have no problem with this dialog giving me a useful reminder.
My problem is this: if I want to make my alignment longer, and I grab the grip at the end of it and drag it to a new location, the reference point moves too! Who in their right mind would want the reference point to move when adjusting the end? Personally I wouldn't want C3D to ever move my reference point automatically. I can have some sympathy with moving it if I am grip-editing the start of the alignment, or the tangent on which the reference point resides. But I'm editing at the end of the alignment, on a different tangent. Why would you move my reference point and make me have to go back and reset it to where it was? How dare you throw your warning message at me for moving the reference point back to where it should be when you secretly moved it to a wrong location with no warning whatsoever?

Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements Version 8.0, and I use Windows 7.
The problem: Whenever I use any tools involving the usage of the mouse on the canvas, everytime I click to use the tool, sometimes the cursor seems to 'jump' out of position and I end up unintentionally putting paint on the wrong part of the canvas. And before I release the click, I try to move the mouse around in random directions to no avail; the mouse doesn't respond until I release the mouse. In another similar case, sometimes for a split second the cursor seems to move on its own and it leaves behind a random trail of color. Example: Let's say I wrote down my name 'Andrew' on the canvas. I end up something similar to 'Anc e.", along with a black dot/calligraphic stroke or two unintentionally placed when writing down my name. I had to undo and click several times until I properly got the tool working. I'm working on a certain project in PS
I'm guessing a part of my bare hand is just barely in physical contact with the touchpad?

I have a surface, to which I've added data from a ENZ file. No problems - I had a workable surface. I want to be able to work on the drawing at home as well as work. So I brought home the DWG as well as the ENZ file thinking that if both were in the same directory, it would work OK. But I get an error saying the Point file can't be found. I can't see any way to make the file reference relative, rather than absolute.

In 3DS MAX 2011 my transform gizmo jumps to the origin every time I go into sub-object mode making it very difficult to edit. I have been through the help file looking for fixes without success. I have major deadlines to meet this week and this is severely hampering progress. How to reset the gizmo? When I pick an object the gizmo is in its proper location, it's only when I go to sub-object mode that it leaps away to the origin.

With osnap on endpoint only, no other dynamic inputs on, no polar, 3dobject snap dynamic input, grid or snap on.
The cursor looks like it jumps up form the endpoint but actually it moves in the same Z as the osnap. Also when i zoom in i can't move my cursor to the upper or lower part of the screen depending on where I zoom too. If I turn magnet off it seems better but still not correct. In the drawing I uploaded I can't move the cursor up to the entities. If I open a new drawing everything works, on a different drawing everything works. If I insert this into a new file I get the problems back.

All toggles are turned off and the cursor jumps all over the screen when zoomed in. Also, there are two rectangular boxes in the northeast quadrant of the crosshairs when moving near a point or node. How to eliminate this? All function keys are off.

If I move my cursor within 25 pixels of a transform control, it activates it. So, on smaller objects it becomes impossible to slide them. Because every time I have the mouse over the object, it is snapping to a transform handle. Thus, when I click, I am now either rotating or scaling the object.
Is there some way to limit this active area to only 3 pixels around the handle, or turn off the cursor snapping to them?

When I move objects across layers, the the screen "jumps" or "jitters". Could this be related to the refresh rate? Maybe it is my monitor?

I'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.
New illustration of concept:

I'm still playing around with CS-2 on the Mac and have got a question about adjusting how much the cursor will move, can't seem to find a place to adjust it.
I had cut out an object from one photo and was trying to place it on another photo. However it dosn't seem to want to move exactly to the place I would like to put it. The increments seem to be large when I try to move it around.

When I move or copy an object, it'll show the coordinate distance as you move your mouse. The issue is, the coordinate bounces between the nominal distance based on the units, such as 2' - 7 29/32". Then it will change to some extreme number, such as 2.784807E+01. My first assumption is that the mouse cursor is getting off alignment with the relative start location, or some extreme Object Snapping is going on (OSnap on/off still does the same thing).

I am a photographer and am using CS5 for image manipulation . I have recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad to use for editing but it seems to have an issue with the space bar shortcut. As soon as I press the space bar, the cursor will not move, I cannot click, not right click. If I plug in a USB Mouse, it will work fine.
Obviously most of the time I will be using a mouse, but it is most frustrating when I'm using the scratch pad and cannot pan around the image. I have checked through all the settings I can find regarding the scratch pad.

Behavior that I'm used to in both AE and FCP: When I double click the nested sequence my cursor lands in the exact same location on the timeline matching the original cursor location. So if I'm viewing clip 1234.mov on the main timeline I would expect that after double clicking and opening the nested sequence I would still be looking at clip 1234.mov. Premiere is not handling it the same way.
The way Premiere Pro CC Behaves: I double click the nested sequence to open it but it doesn't match my cursor location. Instead it lands me in the location I was last positioned when inside the nested sequence. This is very frustrating when trying to make client changes based on the timecode of the master sequence. Once I open the nested sequence I have to hunt for the clip that needs editing.

I feel really dumb right now but for some reason I'm having trouble deselecting. First off, I'm talking layers and vector objects here. I know Cmd D deselects selections. But how you do deselect any layer which might currently be active? I'm working in PS CS6 for the first real time and it's like I suddenly got dumb or something.
I know you can select a blank area of the Layers Panel to do it, but my Layers Panel is full right now, so I don't even see any dead space. This is especially troubling because I'm making a lot of shape layers and if I do that while a layer is selected then I wind up making masks.

If I am working on a layer, then select a new layer to work on, then paint on that layer, then undo: the brush stroke is undone, but also the previous layer I was working on re-becomes the active layer. I want it to stay on the new layer I selected. Is there an option for this?

It's like the anchor point for the cursor is way off. I can click paint brush, and the paint will show up halfway across the page. If I keep clicking, the painted spot will finally show up under the cursor and I draw. If I move the cursor, and start again, same problem. If I enter text, the text willl appear so far below the picture, I have to zoom out so far, the the picture is a very small square. I grab the text box and move it back up to the picture, zoom back in and finish. If there is more text, I just duplcate the layer, so I don't have to go through the drill again.
Example: [URL] .....
Same problem with drawing a line. I click on the start point, and the line draws itself, off page to the left: [URL] ......
My video drivers are up to date, I'm working in Win 7 and CS5

I'm animating a picture, have the limbs on different layers, so I can just simply use the free transform tool to rotate them into the good position.
Although it's a pain to always reset the pivot point from the center. Is there a way to make Photoshop remember where I want the pivot point to be?

other wise the same scale. At the same time when I drag the block Jig it should become bigger as well, in negative coordination.
how to drag and change the scale at the same time based on cursor location. Right now I am using point monitor to check the location.

I'm trying to move specific anchor points on a path a few pixels up from their current position, while keeping everything else where it is, so it'll transform the figure's shape. I'm trying to do it precise by changing it's dimensions, rather than clicking and dragging. does- work when I direct select the points I want and drag them. Problems with that:
1) I have very little control. If I want the point moved up by whole pixels, I pretty much have to get lucky because it's always in decimal points.
2) With shapes bordering each other (parts of a complex shape), if I want to move their location to scrunch something (Half circle in a larger half circle, wanting to flatten out the base), if I lift those points up, they leave a gap. As if the top border of the outer circle has another anchor point under the lower of the one above that, and I can't click on it to move everything while they're still touching. I can take screenshots if needed. I'm following a tutorial to get used to the program.
Alternately, I suppose if you have a shortcut for constraining the drag to whole pixels instead of fractions, that's great too. In Photoshop and the like, holding Shift would give me precision, but that's not the case in this tool or perhaps program.

I noticed that if i draw a very short line (about 10 pixels or less) then cursor shifts back to starting point.
Tested on systems an drivers:
Mac OS X 10.6.4 or 10.7.4
Driver 6.3.0 or 6.3.3-3
Photoshop CS 5 (12.0.4)
Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.1)
Mac OS X 10.8.2, Driver 6.3.3-3 and Photoshop 6 (13.0.1) - same problem.
I have three Intuos 5 tablets for now and all have this bug so this is not a hardware problem i think. Corel Painter 12 - all good.
