Photoshop :: Possible To Create Gradient Similar To Radial Gradient

Jan 17, 2013

Is it possible to create a gradient similar to radial gradient, except that the shape is other than circular? This image would be the starting point, but I would like the white part fading to black to be another shape (say, a rectangle, a banana, etc.).

Photoshop :: Radial Gradient Size

Sep 5, 2012

I have images that are approximately 5200x2600 pixels.  There is slight drop-off on the ends primarily because the lens I use is slightly wide-angle.  When I use the radial gradient as an after-the-fact center filter, I can't make it big enough to allow lightening the ends. I have the scale set to 149%, which appears to be the maximum.  Even with the Opacity set very low there is a very slight ring of lightness, so to speak, about halfway between the center and the and of the frame.

Is there any way to expand the gradient?  Or solve my problem another way?

Photoshop :: Add A Radial (circular) Gradient?

Jul 12, 2012

I have a few photos which I want to add a radial (circular) gradient to.  I want them to show the middle portion of the photo (full opacity) and then have them go to zero opacity on the edges in a circular manner (basically fade to white).  I have a background layer which is white.

I am sure this is fairly simple, but I can't figure it out....

Photoshop :: Create Radial Transparency Gradient Using CC?

Aug 4, 2013

I am using the new Creative Cloud attempt from Adobe. In 6 months, the only consistent documented behavior from photoshop around transparency gradient adjustment layers is to deselect all layers and then select just one layer to use for the failed Photoshop transparency effect.

I have not found any tutorials that I can duplicate on my machine. Either the tools will not appear 99% of time, or when they do 1% of time they do not work as described, work erratically, or do not work at all. I have got the CC Photoshop to perform a linear gradient from layer to black background. That is all CC Photoshop can do consistently for me. For multi-step tutorials, the steps are consistent, but CC Photoshop popups and resutls literally change with each gradient attempt. Freaky application failures. 100% of time CC Photoshop fails, applying the gradient from an object in foreground to a black background.

Layer foreground to black background must be the default. Anything else fails and is highly erratic. It is as if this CC Photoshop is intended as a supplement to whatever they are using in the tutorials. For example, If I had the money for a full Photoshop CS6 box, everything would work fine? CC Photoshop is a total fail on this computer. Adobe telephone support results the same failure. I am always going to get a call back "with a resolution". but the callback never comes, or it comes with the excuse "we are working on this". All I want is a Foreground to Background transparency gradient for a selected layer... ever since the CC beta trial appeared a year ago. For example, how do I create a radial transparency gradient using CC Photoshop?

Illustrator :: Two Color Radial Gradient

May 14, 2013

Imagine a radial gradient that goes from red in the center to transparent. Then cut it in half. Then on the bottom, I need it to go from blue in the center to transparant. Also radial. How do I do this in Illustrator? I want it to look like it's all the same radial gradient... just red on top and blue on the bottom. I've mocked it up in Photoshop below. But I want to know if I can do this in Illustrator.

GIMP :: Radial Gradient Selection On Mask

Jan 4, 2014

I've been using a radial gradient on a mask to create a selection, then messing with the selection with various tools, e.g. saturation, blur, contrast. All this on a duplicate of the background layer, of course.

On my most recent attempt, I noticed "rings" in a portion of the finished image. Is the sequence in which I'm using the tools the problem? Should I work on the top layer first, THEN create the selection? Here's a crop from the image:

GIMP :: Radial Gradient Over A Wide Distance

Oct 1, 2013

I have a wide background image for the top of a site I am working on, which I am attaching. Basically, the original creator of the image faded the gradient from transparent to the background color of the site. The "shape" of the gradient is where I am having trouble. I tried even using the circle selection tool, then doing an inverted selection to force an oval shape, but that is not working great for me either.

Sometimes i save my file and the gradient fill on a shape is be grey, reopen and it's then white. Fixing it and saving it again seems to then save it properly. I haven't been able to establish a pattern to reproducing it yet. Hence why i'm wondering if others have seen this too?

Illustrator :: How To Paint A Gradient Into Some Shapes

Sep 13, 2013

I'm trying to paint a gradient into some shapes but after a few seconds of painting, the brush stops responding and i have to release it to let it make it's mark.  As i'm painting a gradient, when i start painting again it covers it with a new version of the gradient instead of blending the 2 together which is clearly not the effect i'm after and not a result that is of any use.

Is there a way of getting all paint strokes to blend so i can fill the whole area with the gradient as there is no other way of filling this area with it.

Illustrator :: Merging Gradient Shapes Into Single Object

i have 2 square shapes on my artborad.  each square shape has its own gradient fill.  i would like to merge these 2 shapes to form a single shape.  not a groupe of shapes, but a single, flattened (compounded?) object.

the gradient of the first square includes a zero-alpha.  the second image is the two shapes simply layered, but i want to basically flatten them together to form one shape.

what steps are involved in merging these shapes to form one shape so that their gradients are unaffected by merging with the other?

Photoshop :: Organic Digital Painting "sphere"

Feb 21, 2007

here is a simple way to start practicing organic painting in photoshop using greyscale. I have used this same technique on all of my digital paintings.

1. Start with a medium grey as the background color. you can go to edit/fill/ then select 50% grey, or just double click the black brush color and select a grey halfway between the white and the black.

This will the the middle ground for the entire painting.

2. Take the elliptical marquee tool (the top left corner of the tool pallet.)
on your canvas hold shift and click and drag to make a perfect circle on the background.

Create a new layer and name it shadows.

Start to paint using a soft, 5% opacity brush around the bottom of the circle where the shadow would be if it were a sphere... start really light and work big. then as it gets darker work smaller and more detailed. i start with a brush size of around 125.
when your done it should look like this (it should not be totally black anywhere)

3. Create a new layer and name it highlights.

on this layer do the same as you did with the shadow but on the top side of the sphere using white. Add white where the light source would be hitting it . work large and work your way dont to smaller detailed areas (there should not be much detail with a sphere.)

4. Now after this is finished open a new layer and name it shadow and glow. you can add a shadow below the sphere. what i did was use the elliptical marquee tool to create an oval what would be the shadow of the sphere. after you paint the shadow, erase the part of the shadow that you can see over the sphere. ten ad a blur to it. you can use the gaussian blur and mess with the sliders untill you find one you like. the shadow must line up with the light source. for example if the light source is on the right side the shadow cannot be on the right side. once yo have the elliptical marquee selected fill it in with a 5% opacity brush untill it is dark enough to match the shadow on the lower side of the sphere.

also, some things you can do is add a bit of glow around the top of the sphere. this will be the light that is bouncing off the top. also add some highlight to the bottum of the sphere. this is where the light will bounce up from under the sphere . both of these highlights, or glows should be very subtle.

Photoshop :: Radial Blur

how to perform a radial blur to "spin" the propeller. I'm familiar with the basics of radial blur, but I'm not able to create a realistic effect with this type of picture or one that's facing forward at an awkward angle. Am I better off deleting the actual propeller and creating my own, or is there some technique that I'm missing that would make a more realistic blur. I've created a clipping path and done a standard radial blur, but it just doesn't look right. I couldn't attach the image for some reason, so here's a linked image.

CorelDRAW X6 :: Creating Shapes Through Inverting Other Shapes

Nov 18, 2013

I drew something up on a sheet of paper, scanned it, then traced it's bitmap as line art. I then proceded to edit the vectors to recover all the detail I lost with the tracing. It took forever!

Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.

What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?

If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.

3ds Max Modeling :: Modeling Buildings In Organic Forms

Feb 7, 2011

I'm an architecture student who has high interest in 3d modeling.I would like to learn how to design something in a very organic form for a change.I can model very accurately and fast what I need on Autocad most of the time, but it seems like autocad 3d modeling is not the best tool to be using for modeling something very curvy and random.

Some Examples: [URL] .....

So Basically, I want to be able to first sculpt the general exterior form I have sketched out or in my mind, and not only that, I would like to model the interior portions so I can have renders from inside the building. (Like the ons from the examples)

Although in architecture, 3D modeling comes into play after the 2d drafting, I don't think it's the same case for organic shapes. I would have a general layout sketched out on paper how the building would be formed, but not necessarily accurately measured. Then I would model the building to cut the sections through, and extract them out along with floor plans thus creating a very accurate orthographic drawings as well as gorgeous renders.or just poly edit with soft selection and other modifiers?
