I have a fabulous image of a painter's palette: [URL]
I want to show only parts of this image at a time, so that the viewer sees it in increments. However, I want to make the edges look more organic, like brush strokes, so that it looks almost as though the painting is being completed and the viewer gets to see the process.
p.s. I'm in CS2, unfortunately, so the bristle brush isn't an options

I'm using the particle playground FX and need to interpolate the radius of my particles. I'm able to change the radius, but so far I've had zero luck keyframing the radius size. I've attached two screenshots: one with the radius set to 10 and another with the radius set to 100. As you can see the particle size doesn't change.

For the lack of a better word I can just call it sandy edges because to me they look like sand. Is it possible to do this in Photoshop or Illustrator?

Each page is just an image file, and the page background is black. So for the image to go into the page seamlessly, the edges have to fade to black. So far I've only been able to do it with specific kinds of pictures that are already black, or have very dark edges, and I just use the burn tool to fade it to pure black so it blends in nicely. If you go to the page, you'll see what I mean. However I'd like to be able to do a similar thing with brighter images, or images where the edges aren't already black/dark. How can I fade bright images to black in a convincing way? When I try using the burn tool, it doesn't bring it all the way to black, and if I use the gradient tool (i.e. from transparent to black or something), it's hard to get it uniform all the way around the image.

I'm coming from Fireworks.
A technique I use often in my ui work is to combine a texture with a gradient that fades the gradients color and the pattern to transparent.
In Fireworks, this can be done on a single layer with no mask. The transparency of the gradient affects the pattern.
This is not the case in Photoshop. I am wondering how I can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, while keeping everything vector.

I've been using Photoshop intensely this year for school assignments, and I'm learning to get around very well. The issue I'm currently having is that it want to make a layer mask that fades from the mask to the image behind, from color to transparent to create a smooth transition.
I've attached a sample image of what I'm trying to do. Just note, I used a very round-about method to get this image, but I want to achieve the same effect with a vector mask.

What I am trying to do is, I have an image. I would like to fade the image edges into the background which is colored black. So in essence, I want the image to meld into the background which is black. How is this done. I tried so many things and I cant seem to get it right.
Every time I get close, to getting it right, my image fades somewhat using the gradient tool and a new opaque white layer but I get white and silver boxes on the edges of my image?

I’m tying to make an Phaser system with Particle Flow.
What I would like is the following:
The particles first build up, then shoots out along a straight line even if the ship and target is moving, leaving a streak.
The phaser illuminates the scene.
Once it hits the shield (in this case), the particles spreads along this shield showing the curve in a smoke like texture.

Used to be possible to create a brush stroke that faded out over its length. You could choose the number of steps it took to fade and by trial, create a brush that faded the way you want.
Can't find anything in any documentation.

I have some text spiraling inward along a path (about 20 words). How can I make the individual words (or characters) fade as they near the center of the spiral (while leaving new words at the start of the path at their full opacity until they too reach the center)? I've played with various parameters (including start, end, and offset - and opacity) and have come close, but can't quite get it - and after completing spiral, text sometimes becomes opaque again and heads off at tangent to last segment of spiral.
(Using Adobe Master Suite CS6 - After Effects CS6)

I'm a paleontology student and in my work I have to create reconstructions and pictures of fossils, most of them stippled (similar to URL..... I used to work with Gimp 2.6, using paintbrush fading set to 1 px (i.e. every click of a mouse making one, perfect dot). I'm using a mouse, because I find it more comfortable and precise than a graphic tablet. Unfortunately, after Gimp update to 2.8 the brush options changed, the brush fading ceased to work as it used to, and I can't find a way to turn it on (tweaking the dynamics settings would probably work for a tablet, but I find it useless for a mouse). I know there are some plugins for automatic stippling/halftoning, but unfortunately they are not what I want, as they obviously mix information about shape (shading) and color, while I need my pictures to show only the shape of the specimens. Is there any way to make the paintbrush fading work in Gimp 2.8 as it worked in Gimp 2.6?

When I use the gradient tool it has visible transition lines even though I am using the colour to transparency option. When I say visible I do not mean hard edged transition, but the transition is visible on the screen and when printing.
Is this inevitible or am I missing a trick to getting a barely visible transition edge?

Is there any way to get an application of a brush with Wet Edges to absorb seemlessly into a previously applied area of the brush with Wet Edges? As far as I can see, if you paint a bit, say in Pattern mode, stop painting, and then start to apply the brush again, the paint visibly overlaps the previously applied colour. This makes it impossible to easily create brushed watercolour washes without keeping your brush in contact with the paper (in my case a digital tablet) all the time; if you lift it off for a second, it applies a new coat of paint (or pattern) over whatever is there already. What I'd like is to be able to get a wet edges brush to meld seamlessly into a previously applied area of paint (or pattern).
Is this possible to achieve, please?

Anyway, I have been trying to make some cool shadows and feel that I need some help here. If you place an object on a surface and put some light on it you get a shadow that is very sharp and dark near the objects base and gradually gets more and more "blurred" further away from the object. (Hope you get the picture)
Now, all of the tutorials that I found on this uses two layers. The first layer is sharp and the second is blurred. Using gradient masks they simply blend the two layers into each other. This is pretty good but not perfect. Below is an example:
For now concentrate on the shadow to the right. Can you spot the strange effect when the double shadows are blending? This is the effect I don't like.
The Shadow to the left is more accurate and was made in this way:
1. First I made a selection that surrounded the shadow except for the part closest to the object.
2. I applied some Gaussian blur. (I think it was 0,3 or something)
3. I moved the selection 10 px upwards and repeated step 2.
4. Step 3 was repeted until i had reached the top of the shadow.
This can also be used to mimick a shart focal depth:
Again the right image looks strange.
Finally I made a quick image demonstrating both of the effects:
(I know that the green tube has incorrect lighting, I was not thinking at the moment )
This is my dirty way of doing it, but I suspect that it can be done better. If anyone understands what I am mumbling about and have some ideas please step forward
/Moltas

I recently invested in CS6 Production Premium and I've just tested legacy support by saving an Illustrator CS6 image in CS4 format.
The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
Having loaded the saved CS4 .ai file in CS6, white lines appear along my semi-transparent gradient meshes (see the attached screenshot).
What's happening is that the anchor points with 0% opacity in CS6 suddenly have 100% opacity when I load the saved CS4 files in CS6.
Is this a known error? If so, how/where do I report it?
Here are the relevant CS6 and CS4 files: [URL] ....
There are no white lines when I save the image in CS5 format and load it in CS6.

I have two images/photos to which I applied a gradient feather effect. The documment printed fine, but when the PDF is viewed online in Fire Fox, the gradient feather no longer displays and only the sharp edges of the photo are visible. Is there a specific setting when saving to PDF that I need to select for best viewing online? I'm on a Mac CS 5.5.
