Photoshop :: Is It Possible To Turn Grids Into A Layer
Dec 6, 2012
Is it possible to turn grids into a layer? I know this can be done with the vanishing point filter but can it be done with normal grids? I ask because grids are very useful but at times get in the way. If I could create a layer of my grids I could then turn them on and off as needed.
I am using Photoshop CS6 on Windows.

I have a drawing where I need to open the layer manager to turn on a layer in a view port but cannot get to that particular column. As you look across the top of the layer manager I can see all the headings of each column beginning with "Name", "Status", "On" and so forth. The last column heading I see is "Description" but I need to go even further to the right to get to the column I need to be at but can't get there. There is no scroll button on the bottom of the layer manager which would allow me to do that.

Difficult to explain this in the title hense I haven't found an answer with a google search.
What it is, is that I have an image (a stud of an earring) that needs to be repeativly added to each image by hand at the moment I leave the image of the stud open and cut and paste it.
There must be an easier way to do this?
I was thinking I could turn it into a brush? I found the clone pattern but in the way I am using it, it doesn't work as I can't see is what my brush is to get it to line up.

Is there a way to permanently turn on "view layer edges" in CS6? How about a way to bring back the arrange icon that was in the menu bar in CS5?

Just experimenting with grading in photoshop - so far so awsome
Trouble is I often dupe the original video layer to apply effects and this appears to dupe the audio - rendering the final audio totally overblown and distorted. - is there a way to switch it off for a specific layer?

I am trying to turn an icon into a transparent icon. The icon has a shadow layer in gray scale.
I can set the shadow layer to multiply and put a colored layer under it and have the shadow appear properly, but when I try to put it over a transparent background, Photoshop turns the white pixels in the shadow visible. How can I get it to treat the layer as a black layer with different degrees of transparency?

My current workflow is to design on layers, freezing layers when I'm done working on a portion as to not inadvertently move the contents around. When freezing layers the layers contents are turned grey.
Is there a way to freeze a layer and not have it turn grey?

As we know we can freeze a layer on VP level. Is there any way to turn a layer on/off, on the block level?
Let's say, you have "Text" layer. You make a block out of other blocks (nesting blocks) which they contain objects on "Text" layer but you don't need those objects on your new block and on just that block you want to turn them off.

Some time back I played around with the filters in GIMP. I have tryed to figure out what I did, but it is not working to well. The base file I got saved, only has a transparent background layer and a text layer. But this is the base tho. So that was what I used, with some filter mix and turn off/on effect in layer manager.

Ive been looking in to grids and the golden section for design. Having had no formal graphic design training i find it very interesting.
I understand that the golden section is a ratio that is naturally aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that it can be found at 68% off a 100% length line. i.e: if you had a 100cm line, 68cms along would be the golden section and design based on this division should be on the way to looking balanced.
Now ive tried applying this to alot of web sites and none seem to adhere to it really. Ive been using this software on a free trial by a company called atrise. Its a resizable grid that floats on other windows, which constantly shows the golden section ratios. As i say not many websites use it as far as i can see.
Ive also been looking in to grid design which is closley tied to typography and, in fact, the design of a grid should be geverned, to some extent, by the size of the text.
What i want to know is, is there any way of combining the golden section rules and grid design. I cant put the two together for some reason. Im looking for someone with a good undrstanding of both to enlighten me!

When you design in 3 dimensions you would place one global perspective grids to guide you. This global grid is the master grid, is the grid (basically the world grid) where all your objects will be place on. I?ve attached an image and orange grid is the master grid.
On top of this master grid I have decided to create two additional grids. These grids will help me in creating two objects. These two grids have different vanishing points, infact all three grids together have its own vanishing points and I?m not sure if this is OK as long there is the master grids.
Taking this a step further I decided to create another grid on top of one of the blue grids and this blue grid now becomes the master grid and the grid on top of this blue-master grid is now the child grid. And you can go on and on like the mirror effect.

I am realtively good with actionscript, so I am trying my hand at this to streamline our image exporting process. I am using CS5 on a PC.
We build our illustrator files to be a combination of different layers. Sometimes just one layer is exported at a time, and sometimes layers are combined to form a more complex image. We use layer names with instructions of what layers should be on and off.
An example of the layer naming might look like this:
03 (01-ON, 02-OFF)
02 (01-OFF)
01
I have been able to figure out how to check if there is a note to turn a layer on, my question is how do I select the layer to turn on the visibility without using the exact name of the layer?
In my example, when layer 3 gets exported, it should have layer "01" visible and layer "02 (01-OFF)" not visible. Since our files are always constructed differently (meaning 02 might not always have a note about 01 being off), I can't use the getByName option because I don't have an exact name to call the layer and turn the visibility on. The layers always start with 01, 02, 03, etc. Is there a way to use getByName and only have it look at the first 2 characters of the layer name?
