Photoshop :: Turn Icon With Shadow Layer In Grayscale Into Transparent
Feb 10, 2013
I am trying to turn an icon into a transparent icon. The icon has a shadow layer in gray scale.
I can set the shadow layer to multiply and put a colored layer under it and have the shadow appear properly, but when I try to put it over a transparent background, Photoshop turns the white pixels in the shadow visible. How can I get it to treat the layer as a black layer with different degrees of transparency?

I have a transparent canvas and would like to put a "square" on it. I'd like the content inside the square to be transparent as well, but I'd like to apply the "Drop Shadow" and "Outer Glow" style to the box, while keeping the inside of it transparent.
When I try to do this, nothing occurs because the "square" is empty. The only way I can get the shadow to occur is if I fill in the box with a color, such as white, first. However, then the center isn't transparent how I'd like it to be.

I will submit the Black and white ad created in Photoshop to the magazine. The requiment is that for grayscale images, the shadow density should be no darker than 90% and highlights should be no lighter than 3%. I don't know how to check the percentage on the document I made. I checked HELP in Photoshop and website. But I couldn't really get answer from them. I have little knowledge of printing. Please give me advice or helpful website.

I have a grayscale tif of a golf ball that I want to turn into one PMS color vector art, using only screens of that PMS color. I can convert it to vector easy enough but having no luck getting it to my chosen color.
I tried Illustrator support but some of the dialogue boxes they reference don't match what's there.

So I have successfully used the drop shadow effect in PSE 6.
But I can't figure out how to disengage this effect. I started using the clone stamp tool after I was done with drop shadow, and now all of my clone stamps have drop shadows!
I don't want no more drop shadow. How do I get it to stop? I've looked and looked and don't see anything obvious.

I have a webpage that has a gradient background that extends down the page at least 800 px and is set to repeat-x. I have an auto centerd column which has a background applied to it. The background is set to repeat-y. The center column has a dropshadow applied all the way around it. The problem is that I am not able to get the drop shadow to blend in with the gradient as the page grows. Initially at the top of the gradient where it, the gradient, is the darkest, the drop shadow blends in. But as the gradient moves down, i.e., becomes lighter, the drop shadow ceases to blend in any more. is it possible to solve this problem? If so then how?

this is how i usually duplicate a layer, by dragging and dropping to the new layer icon at the bottom of the palette. it is not letting me do that.
also, when i select a a single, or group of layers and move them around in the palette, i thought it used.

I need an easy way to fix a high contrast image such as an interior home shot where the windows are blown out and you can't see outside detail, but the interior is either correctly exposed or is underexposed. Basically what i need to do is combine the correctly exposed interior with the correctly exposed windows, showing correct exposure for both interior and exterior detail. To get the correct exposure i have been taking a shot in which i meter the windows, and without moving the camera, take another shot in which i meter the interior.
Here is where i get stuck. the way i've been doing it, which takes way too much time for my purposes, is to either use the magnetic lasso tool or the polygonal lasso tool to select the area of the properly exposed windows, and then cut and paste the selections to the other layer. The problem with this is,
it takes quite a while and i usually have to go back and do some cloning around the edges to fill in the spots that got missed, which takes alot of time as well, because it usually takes me several tries to get it right. Is there an easier way?

As I was cropping this image from a black background (not layered), I forgot to crop a single column of black pixels. However, I almost missed it, because the canvas always has a small shadow, for the simple purpose of looks. Is there any way to turn this off?

I have this icon and I'd like to use it on a website but with interchangeable colors. So, what I'd like to do is create a png file with solid colors simulating the background. And, where the actual icon colors are, use transparency. That way I can specify any color I want in the background and it will filter through!
how I could extract the different alpha transparency information to make the result similar to the pic shown above.I know it's possible as I've followed some tuts but the result isn't exactly the same.

I'd like to select the whole gradient that I have created on its own layer. So I cmd-click (Mac) on the layer's icon. But after doing this not the whole gradient is selected but only the darkest part of it!
With every other layer it worked so far... But not with gradients...

I created a .png file from our organization logo. I used the magic wand to select and "delete" the backgound, leaving it transparent. However, when placed on our web site, the logo edges have a slight line. What must I do to not have the lines (to make the background truly transparent)?

I often have the need to remove the drop shadow effect. Currently what I do is to "Break Drop Shadow Group Apart" then delete it from object manager. However with other effects such as Transparency, I can simply set the Effect to None. Can this be done with Drop Shadow?

When I turn on shadow I just get a square under the part that I modeled. If I turn on ray tracing I get a detailed shadow but then I have to wait a minute or two every time i move the model. In the video tutorial it seems that the guy has a good shadow with no raytracing.

I have a pillow bevel applied to a paint splatter brush image, and I'm having trouble with the shadows. I want to save this splatter as a transparent PNG. The problem is that a drop shadow effect is showing up when I save it this way. I think it's a "shading" setting rather than a true drop shadow, as there is no drop shadow set in the layer styles.
The shadow does not appear when a white background is applied. It only shows when the background is transparent. I've tried reducing the shading opacity in the bevel dialogue, and this does get rid of the drop shadow....the problem is that it also removes the shading from the paint splatter, making the image look flat instead of raised.

Every time I open ACA 2013, my toolbars that I have loaded turn off. Well currently only the layers toolbar remains, my custom toolbar and the properties toolbar turn off every time I open ACA with the icon or the exe file itself. If I open a drawing file the toolbars seem to remain. I also just installed the service pack, no change.

This is probably really basic but... I'm a printer and only really use Photoshop for changing RGB to CMYK, clear cutting (with Vertus fluid mask) and things like that. However a lot of the photos I have to clear cut have been done already but not saved (or given to me to use) with the transparency still there. Is there some easy way to turn all the white pixels into transparency? Obviously you'd have to mask any white pixels in the image you wanted to keep. A sample is attached.

How to change the color of an icon (ex: from black to grey). My problem is that the end result is sometimes an icon that is partially transparent.
Here is what I am doing:
1) I open the image of which I want to change the color (black icon over transparent background)
2) Create a new layer and color this in white.
3) Merge the two layers
4) Create a new layer and color this with the color I want for my icon
5) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
6) Select the current color of the icon
7) Click Ok - Now icon color is the wanted color over a white background
8) Create a new layer and leave this transparent
9) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
10) Select the white color (current background color).
11) Click Ok - Now icon background is transparent, but icon color is also partially transparent.
Is there a way how I can change the color of an icon without getting the icon color transparent.
