Photoshop :: Pasting Onto Layer With A 'layer Mask'

Apr 24, 2008

I've set up some images with layer masks, but i'm problems pasting items on to the layers that are masked. When ever I paste, photoshop (cs3) creates a new layer. Surely there is a way to paste onto the selected layer, and not to create a new layer?

Photoshop :: Pasting Into Existing Layer?

Jun 13, 2006

I've got a Photoshop file that someone wants me to use as a template. It has an existing layer that I need to put a picture into without modifying the layer or creating a new one.

Whenever I cut and paste a picture into it, the pasted picture becomes "Layer 1" but I want it to paste onto a layer which is already there (rather than become a new layer).

Photoshop :: Turn Icon With Shadow Layer In Grayscale Into Transparent

Feb 10, 2013

I am trying to turn an icon into a transparent icon. The icon has a shadow layer in gray scale.

I can set the shadow layer to multiply and put a colored layer under it and have the shadow appear properly, but when I try to put it over a transparent background, Photoshop turns the white pixels in the shadow visible. How can I get it to treat the layer as a black layer with different degrees of transparency?

GIMP :: Layer Toolbox And Pasting

May 24, 2013

I've tried the standard solution of File>Windows>Dialog boxes>layers

But that does absolutely nothing. Pressing CTRL+L does not produce the box either. Since its a fresh install and i have not closed it by accident i cannot reopen it using the recently closed windows option.

Is the layers box docked to another window by default maybe?

Also when i make a selection and paste it into as a new image with a transparent background the selection becomes transparent and i don't know how to make it fully opaque.

Illustrator :: Pasting Paths In Its Own Layer?

Aug 10, 2013

I organize my documents into different layers. The problem that I'm facing is that the paths jump places when I paste. If I want to move a set of paths into another layer, I cut and paste. But the paths either paste in front of the layer it started on, or on a layer other than where I commanded them to be pasted. I'm looking into pasting a set of paths in a layer by my choice, but it keeps on wanting to do its own thing. Also, I do know that layers can be clicked and dragged into different positions on the layers palette, but I have so many. This technique slows me down.

GIMP :: Image Pasting As Layer Turning Into Gradient

Mar 9, 2013

I was trying to teach myself to use gradients the other day... And now when I start a new project and try to paste in a photo as a new layer, it pastes as the gradient instead.

I have opened up both the gradients dialog and the gradients editor but cannot turn it off. In fact, when I open a brand new (empty) file, I can see the gradient attached to my pointer (mouse).

Photoshop :: Converting Screen Layer Blend Modes To CMYK

Mar 21, 2012

I've created some graphic artwork in Photoshop RGB, and now its time to output these graphics to an Illustrator CMYK file.

I have a bunch of layers that I have created for lens flares / light effects and I created these via filling a layer black and then using the Lens Flare Filter and then converting the layer to a Screen layer blend.

I notice that when I convert to CMYK in photoshop I lose the effect of those screen layers, is there anyway I can get those layers to look the same in CMYK without having recreate them from scratch in the CMYK space?

In my illustrator file I have a gradient background and was hoping to bring in these transparent lens flare lighting effects to place over the top of the gradient. I was thinking I might be able to merge the layers in Photoshop but unfortunately I need those screen layers to remain transparent.

I also tried turning the layer to normal 100%, convert to CMYK, placing into my CMYK illustrator file and then changing the layer to screen mode there but its doesnt look the same, its turn transparent like I wanted but it looks like where there is transparency there is a 25% opacity white.

Photoshop :: Copying Text From Outside Text Editor And Pasting Into CS5 Text Layer?

May 20, 2012

trying to copy txt from an outside text editor and pasting them into an open, editable text layer in my workspace.  The problem is that I can COPY the text fine, but when I click over to PS to paste it into the open editable text layer it either pastes the previous text from my clipboard OR it won't paste anything at all.  I can then go into any other text field on a browser, spreadsheet document, a different text editor, notepad, etc and successfully paste the proper batch of text I wanted to paste into PS.  Sometimes I have some rather large files open 50+megs when I notice this happen.  I have to save my work and close out entirely of PS and then open it again before I can begin editing my original document again and successfully paste the text into the open editable text layer.  This may last for a few COPY/PASTE sessions of additional text in additional text layers, but then begins displaying the symptoms I described above.

I am on Win7 on an AlienWare M17XR3 laptop with 16G RAM and AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series display adapter.I assume it's either in my PS performance settings which I have PS using 10413MB RAM and has over 350G scratch disk space.  If it's not that I guess my laptop system performance settings which I've never tinkered with since I purchased it.

Photoshop :: Coloured Image

Aug 5, 2013

When I open my image, it comes up all coloured.  I can get rid of it by changing to 32 bit, but then when I revert back to 8 bit to save, the HDR box pops up and it changes the look of the image automatically on me.

I am shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II, in RAW (SRAWI).

The guy on telephone support got rid of it temporarily, but next time I opened the program, everything was messed up again.  He claims he just reset the setting to default, but I made NO changes to the settings following his intervention.

Photoshop :: Monotone Vs Coloured TIFF

Mar 17, 2013

I am writing an article for a magazine that will be offset-printed on matte paper without spot colours (< 5000 copies).  I am a fairly new CS5 user and also fairly naïve about commercial printing.  Anyway, I would like to include some greyscale images in the article but convert them to one colour (15/100/100/0 Red). Right now, I can achieve this two different ways, but I get different results....

Method 1:  I opened the original greyscale TIFF image in Photoshop, changed the mode from Greyscale to Duotone, changed the preset to custom, changed the type to Monotone, selected the colour swatch for Ink 1, selected "picker," and set the CMYK values to 15/100/100/0, respectively, and named the Ink 1 value as "RED."  I then placed the image in InDesign.

Method 2:  I placed the same greyscale TIFF image in InDesign, selected the image with the white arrow, and chose CMYK red 15/100/100/0 from the swatches panel.

Compared to the monotone, the TIFF is a much darker, deeper, almost orangey red.  I would like to know if there is a "standard" way to achieve this monotone effect (without spot colours), or if it makes any sort of difference to the printer.

Im not sure how to make them transparent though, when I convert the white to tranparent you see only the red.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Converting Objects Of Certain Linetype To A New Layer

Oct 26, 2012

I would like converting all objects that has forced linetype to be on a linetype layer.

So if there are objects that have forced linetypes - dashed/hidden/phantom, etc., those entities would be moved to a linetype layer based on their forced linetype.   The entities would all be changed to color bylayer, linetype bylayer.

So if there is a rectangle that is sitting on an EQUIPMENT layer, the routine would put that rectangle on a new layer called DASHED and change its forced linetype to BYLAYER.

Lastly, once that's done, the next and final step is to locate a the existing layers with matching linetype - say, OBJECTS with DASHED as a linetype, and merging it to that layer.

Photoshop :: How To Turn Black Or Dark Coloured Clothing / Items White

Aug 7, 2012

I have been using Photoshop for a while now but have recently been invited to design some sportswear. I want to initially take existing clothing and change the colours and add designs. As an example, how would I get this soccer kit to be either all white or white on everything apart from the shorts?

I have managed to get yellow to go white using the hue/saturation tool but dark colours seem like its impossible. I do also want to know how to go from white to a darker colour but maybe I should save that for my next thread.

Paint.NET :: Black And White BMP Becomes Coloured PNG

Jul 4, 2011

I'm having quite a bit of a problem with Paint.NET.

I'm scanning some text and saving it in black and white BMP files, usually around 60KB each.

Thing is, I need to edit those files to rotate the image a bit (sometimes the pages are misplaced) and when I save them as PNG files, they end up being even larger than the original file (around 100KB each).

I tried opening them up using Win7's Paint, and after saving them as PNG, I get a file of around 16KB.

Obviously there's some setting in Paint.NET that I'm missing, would you mind pointing me to it?

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that I've also fiddled around with the settings in the "Save as..." dialog to no avail

GIMP :: Transparency Coloured When Exporting Image?

Jul 11, 2011

You probably think "but come on, there are many places where this is explained...". And so it is, but it doesn't work anyways.

I have an image with transparent areas. I have an alpha channel. When I save the file, I do use the "Save colour values from transparent pixels" for png and for gif I check "Interlace" option.

I have done the rigth click -> colour to alpha. What happens when I do this is that some white parts become black.

Things I have noted, perhaps that doesn't matter , is that when checking the alpha channel in the layer tool, it is white and not transparent.

The image is attached.

One last thing, I did copy the image from ConeptDraw (visio-alike application on Mac) before trying to save it with transparency.

This is driving me nuts, I have struggled for hours. I have done it before (way back), but something is different now.

Illustrator :: How To Create A Borderless Coloured Rectangle

Aug 8, 2012

This is probably quite simple but the answer eludes me. What I want to do is to create a borderless coloured rectangle (which I can do!), then drag text over it and cut the text out so it leaves the original rectangle with transparent text if you know what I mean.

I can easily do this in PS with the magic lasso but obviously I lose the quality when re-importing it back into AI.
