GIMP :: Make Render Pop-out Of Signature Area?
Sep 8, 2006how to make your render "pop-out" of the signature area. It gives a really cool effect and is really simple to do. When we are done, it will look a little like this.
OK, to begin, you need to prepare your render. I am going to use this one.
Feel free to use it if you want to.
Open up a new image with the dimensions of 400 x 125. Now you will need to make a background. I'm not going to give any real steps on how to do this, but if you look around on this site, there are many tutorials showing you how to make them. Try using this one, as it is the way I am going to make mine. Don't add the render to your background though. We will do that later.
Following those steps you will get something like this. If you want to add a border, now is the time to do it. The link to the tutorial I told you about above will also show you how to do this.
You now have both a background and a render. Press Ctrl + A to select everything. Now go to:
Image ---> Canvas Size A window like the screenshot below will appear. If you made the size of your image 400 x 125 like I told you, simply set the settings to the same as shown. If you have used a different size, double the width and height of your image and type what the numbers come to into the boxes names "Width" and "Height". Set the offset X and Y values the same as in the screenshot.
Press "Resize".
Your canvas will now look something a little like this.
This is just how you want it.
Now for your render. Open it up and it will appear in a new window. If its to big, resize it. Now go back to your signature window and make a new layer. Copy your render and paste it on to your new layer. A handy tip to know is when you press F11, it will bring The GIMP into full screen mode allowing you to see what you are doing clearly. You should get something like this. Yours will have little dotted squares all behind it though like the image above. Its OK, its how it should be.
Now add some text or whatever you want on your signature. A cool way to make text look good is to type what you want out on to your signature in white, move it to where you want it to be, set that layer's mode to "Overlay" and then duplicate it untill it looks nice. Heres what I got. Again, squares should still be present.
Now merge all the visible layers by pressing Ctrl + M. Select the first option. Now right click on the layer in the layers window and select "Alpha to Selection". This will select all your signature. Copy it by pressing Ctrl + C. Then go to:
Edit ---> Paste as New
This will open up a new window with your signature in it. Go to:
File ---> Save as . . .
Save it as "Popout Signature.png" it must be in a .png for it to work.
Thats it your all done! This is what I got.

May 21, 2012I wrote my signature on piece of paper, then scanned it in, removed the white background, leaving just the signature in blue ink on a transparent background and saved it as a .gif. HOWEVER, I need to make the signature darker blue. I've used clipping masks in the past, but cannot figure how to do this in Paint.net.
I made duplicate copy of the original .gif, then created a layer and filled it with a darker blue. What do I do from here so that when I put the layers together the signature is darker, but the background is still translucent?

Mar 21, 2006Ive been looking in to grids and the golden section for design. Having had no formal graphic design training i find it very interesting.
I understand that the golden section is a ratio that is naturally aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that it can be found at 68% off a 100% length line. i.e: if you had a 100cm line, 68cms along would be the golden section and design based on this division should be on the way to looking balanced.
Now ive tried applying this to alot of web sites and none seem to adhere to it really. Ive been using this software on a free trial by a company called atrise. Its a resizable grid that floats on other windows, which constantly shows the golden section ratios. As i say not many websites use it as far as i can see.
Ive also been looking in to grid design which is closley tied to typography and, in fact, the design of a grid should be geverned, to some extent, by the size of the text.
What i want to know is, is there any way of combining the golden section rules and grid design. I cant put the two together for some reason. Im looking for someone with a good undrstanding of both to enlighten me!
Photoshop :: Perspective Grids In Design
May 26, 2005When you design in 3 dimensions you would place one global perspective grids to guide you. This global grid is the master grid, is the grid (basically the world grid) where all your objects will be place on. I?ve attached an image and orange grid is the master grid.
On top of this master grid I have decided to create two additional grids. These grids will help me in creating two objects. These two grids have different vanishing points, infact all three grids together have its own vanishing points and I?m not sure if this is OK as long there is the master grids.
Taking this a step further I decided to create another grid on top of one of the blue grids and this blue grid now becomes the master grid and the grid on top of this blue-master grid is now the child grid. And you can go on and on like the mirror effect.

If you have any recommendations for some beautiful cursive text to use for the signature, that would be great too. I don't have a scanner to scan my own signature to make it into a brush but I would like to make one into a brush. I'd like a nice glowing effect, not too much, just a bit of a shimmer to it.

Dec 10, 2012I have scale 9 grids on a symbol. The symbol has been correctly created with all anchor points on whole number coordinates. Setting a width and coordinates to align with whole number values (pixels) causes Illustrator either bleed the left or right pixels for apparently no reason. For example, setting the width 224 causes it to bleed on the right. Setting it to 225 causes the pixels to bleed on the left which makes **** all sense since the paths on the left shouldn't have changed. I think this is a bug in the impelementation in regards to how the origin works in Illustrator in that it is the center of the object.

Jun 26, 2007how to make a web signature that looks like a simple ID badge. I am trying to create a standard signature for use on the forums that support a faction within an online role playing game i am a member of. The basic image I have in my head is this. A white or maybe grayscale/silverish back ground layer, with the standard techy inlays. a spot in the top left corner for each individual members avatar. Then pushed off to the center-right side, their information, I.E Rank, name, email, member identification number. With a barcode font on the bottom. Finally with the faction logo well cropped and placed to be an underlying layer below the whole thing set at a very low opacity.
