Whenever I enable Overprint Preview Illustrator seems to add grids on/over my document.
When I disable it, it dissapears. I find this strange because to me the opposite sounds more logical.
Will these grids be printed if I choose to print?
Is there any way to export the overprint preview as jpeg/pdf ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI¨m working on a RGB document; it´s not going to be printed, but I need to simulate the overprint effect and also to use some "out of gammut" RGB colors that display very different on CMYK. I have the overpirnt preview checked; also, the objects I want to overprint have the Overprint Fill checked on the Attributes window. I even tried converting to spot colors, since I got the "In RGB documents, overprinting only affects spots colors" message. Still, no overprint preview.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI prepare graphics mostly for print, so I like to turn on the Proof Colors view and Overprint Preview views. It's a pain to turn these on for each document. Is there a way to make these the default viewing settings in Illustrator CS6?
I tried creating an action to do it, but the Insert Menu Item command in actions causes Illustrator to crash every time, and the help file seems to say that View commands are unavailable to actions. So I'm not sure if that's a bug. Oddly, Photoshop has the very useful File> Scripts> Script Event Manager that let's me turn on Proof Colors (via an action) whenever a document is opened. It works very well. However, Illustrator does not appear to have these options. I found the View> New View options in Illustrator. They let me create a view that turns on Overprint Preview, but absolutely refuse to turn on Proof Colors. So it's the same number of clicks and pointless.

After an external backup drive had its partition deleted we used recovery software to get as many files back as possible. It sorted the files by types but gave them all numbers for names. Using bridge to preview the illustrator files, most show a thumbnail, some just a small illustrator icon. When I try to open the files, some open no problems.
Some of the files are collections of vector art (multiple clipart in one file). In the preview that Bridge shows, the file is complete and all art is there. When I try to open some of these files, I get error messages like:
"Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal operand.
##.####.##
%##.####.####.###.....etc."
And when I click "OK" the file is either missing some of the artwork or it is completely blank. How does the preview show the complete file and when opened it's either missing elements or blank?
It is strange that it is still as optional view option. Why You can't see it always on? reason not to see overprints? We have at least 3 printing reruns this year, where objects lost in pages, just because they where made white from overprinted blacks.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI got a PDF today that (besides being just a complete and terrible mess) has a basic vector shape in a clipping mask that won't let me turn off the overprinting.
When I select the whole object with clipping mask, the Overprint Fill box (in the attributes panel) has a hypen. When I click into the clipping mask or go to Object > Clipping Mask > Edit Contents and I select just the vector shape, the Overprint Fill box has a check in it, and I uncheck it. Then when I exit out and reselect the whole object I get the hypen again. I can also uncheck the hypen and the box is blank, but then when I deselect and select it again I get that evil hypen again.

When I Place an Illustrator file inside onather illustrator file, the overprint elements failed to be overprint.
Why? Is there a bug because I use CS6, but when I tried using CS5.5 it works without any problems.
Here I created a file called single.ai, and set the text to Overprint Fill.
Here when you hide black color the orange color filled completely.
Then I created a file called Multiple, and placed then repeated it.
But as you see when I hide the black color the orange filled is etched (spoiled).
When i turn on overprint mode illustrator redraw is super slow. I made real siple file with two boxes from what one is overprinted.When i turn on overprint mode and try to move one of the box it will take time to redraw it on the new place and there is no drag view at all.
I need to use overprint mode quite often and its not an option right now with so slow redraw. Do i need to go back to use sc5?
Some polygons of one vector layer do overprint and some not. Do you know what can be a cause ?

I have a logo that I ultimatly need rendered properly in a PDF to send for proofing. It has a overprint effect in it but I can't figure out a way to export it as a tif or jpg with a simulated overprint.
What I have tried:
Export as tif and export as jpg (from Illustrator CS5). Neither export has a simulate overprint option, and both export with a big green blob on top of everything (the green blob is the shape that is overprinting)
Save as PDF, press ready, defaults to view of green blob (not simulated overprinting)
Save as PDF, change to PDF 1.3, in advanced flattening I set overprint to preserve, and high resolution. Same result as above.
In a PDF I can turn on the overprint preview, but I can't make that a default (as far as I know). Additionally, I am sending this to a client, I don't want to have to tell him "Oh, and by the way, here are the 10 steps to simulating overprinting in PDFs!"
Also I have tried to import from PDF to Photoshop and there is no option for simulated overprint there as well.
Also, I don't care if it is just a jpg or tif placed into a PDF, I don't need to preserve vector for this portion of it. If I can, then great, if there is a solution but I can't find, It is only for presentation at this stage.
I'm trying to export a layered PSD of my AI file and I keep having problems with it merging the layers because of the overprint settings.
I've been trying to go through and turn off the overprint in my objects, but I have a photo that's cropped by a rectangle shape, and the Overprint Fill option under Attributes is greyed out. What must I do?

This is the picture of a simple document I created. The elipse has fill overprint:true. The polygon has filr overprint:false. The original value for the property fill overprint was false. I changed it in the script to true. Which the log shows it changed.
I have scale 9 grids on a symbol. The symbol has been correctly created with all anchor points on whole number coordinates. Setting a width and coordinates to align with whole number values (pixels) causes Illustrator either bleed the left or right pixels for apparently no reason. For example, setting the width 224 causes it to bleed on the right. Setting it to 225 causes the pixels to bleed on the left which makes **** all sense since the paths on the left shouldn't have changed. I think this is a bug in the impelementation in regards to how the origin works in Illustrator in that it is the center of the object.

I am facing this problem that when i give plot command and preview the window it show fonts different other than my main window. Also it prints as per the preview window and not as per the fonts present in my AutoCAD model space and layout.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing that I created (.dwg) in Inventor 2013 that, when opened, is completely blank. However, when in the File>Open dialog box, I can click on the name of the drawing and the preview shows the complete drawing with all views fully dimensioned. I closed Inventor, laucned AutoCAD and tried opening the same file and it was still blank (no views). I then closed that file and open the old version of the file from the, "OldVersions" folder with Autocad and all the views and dimensions were there.
So I launced Inventor again and reopened the offending print and noticed that the model is not shown in the drawing's model tree. I'm 100% positive that I did not delete this model/view from the drawing before saving the file. This is a small drawing and it will only take me a few mintues to recreate it.

After installing SP3, the Export preview window, as CMYK, shows a black window, but the file is exported correctly. This situation does not happen when the file is exported as RGB. Any explanation why this happens? I´ve tried with different files and happens the same "black window".
I have a drawing that I created with acad 2010 that has a pdf xref attached. I just updated to 2013. And now when I go to plot the drawing my xref shows up in preview but doesn't show up on the plot.
I can go back to my 2010 version, and it plots fine. What gives?
recently i got a new workstation at work, and i am puzzled with one problem. I made a clean installation of Max, ran it, and started to work, but for some reason, my material thumbnail shows refraction of A&D material as thin walled even when it is set to solid.
I tried to uninstall max, wipe max directory and user folders in Appdata/Local/Autodesk, reinstall everything again
Happens both in slate and compact ME.

This has happened since I updated to 2012 Professional. When I want to use the measure tool or add constrains in assembly mode, the face/edge preview does not show up in red under Select Component Priority. I have to wait for the select other option to come up to see which face I am on. If I click on the face or edge it will show up but not until I do. I don't remember changing any settings that would cause this. I could have the select other option delay set to zero or I could change it to another selection priority but I don't remember having to do that before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt was working fine. Then I just did a simple command (pattern a part) and the entire workspace blinked out. The first time it happened I hit UNDO and it was back. So I got out of the drawing and got back in and tried the pattern again. Same issue but this time when I hit UNDO it would not come back. I closed the file without saving and when I went back in the file the workspace is still nothing but white screen. In the browser everything is still visible except for those that I had already changed to invisible. I tried making an invisible to visible and nothing happened. I got out and tried opening the "old version" which should've been before any of this happened and it is also blank. I can go to an ipt or iam in the browser and hit open and it will open in another screen just fine. I just can't see my main assembly. I have Inventor 2012. It shows no errors or messages. I have even rebooted.
I looked thru the forum and found a past issue back in 2005 identical. I tried doing Find in Window on an item in the browser but for some reason that option is not even in the list when I right click.
