I have a single layer which is a bunch of people with their hands in the air (on top of transparency).
I want to change every bit of the shape of those people.... to a single color (e.g., very, very light gray blue)
I have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

I made the background of an object (single color symbol) transparent, then re-sized it. I then added a transparent layer to another image, with the idea of placing the symbol onto that layer. I tried to move the symbol, but that didn't work. I copied the symbol image and tried to paste it onto the layer. It pasted, but all I got was a transparent rectangle that matched the size of the symbol image.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing Photoshop or Elements, it is possible to open up two image of the same subject (I.e. a building) taken taken at several minutes interval, then using the move tool you combine the two images, then add a layer mask, you can edit out any people or distractions, how is this possible in Gimp, I have both Photoshop and Elements (Both Legit), but I dont want to return to Windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy can't I align a single layer that is inside a layer group? The align tool would always select the top most layer group as the 'boundary' for alignment, thus automatically selecting the whole layers inside of it and align them as a group.
Is this a bug or just GIMP's weakness? It definitely reduces the layer group's usefulness.
I have 2 pictures:
main picture - group of people (no room at either end to insert anyone)
2nd picture - 2 people standing together
Best place is to put them at the back of the group. But how do I do this? I am new to gimp and think I have to play with layers, but don't know how to.
I haven't found a way to turn a color photo into a Black & White outline drawing in Corel PhotoPaint X5.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've created a picture with a layer of lava underneath a stone wall which is visible through some of the cracks in the stone. I'm looking to use the rippling animation on ONLY the lava layer while keeping the rest of the layers, i.e. shadows,drop shadow, background, etc. in tact.
Is this possible? I tried several different ways but couldn't make it work. So in other words, I'm only trying to animate only one layer.
What i do is use the direct selection tool and click an anchor and then click the eyedropper tool on that anchor point What is happening is the the outline color is being selected. So i found out Illustrator CS6 you have to hold shift while clicking the eyedropper. I tried that and still can't get the color of the underneath layer, the fill color stays white? Here is pic:
As you can see in the navigator window, the shade of red is that of the outline and not the apple underneath the outline. I tried shift+eyedropper and white is the only color that get's sampled.
So Ive learned how to turn a color photo to B&W with spot color ...how to turn a color photo sepia, but also spot color. I have a wedding photos that I think would be a fun shot to play mixing those colors together . I have searched for the info earlier today and wasnt successful .

The base file I got saved, only has a transparent background layer and a text layer. But this is the base tho. So that was what I used, with some filter mix and turn off/on effect in layer manager.

This is a big learning curve and trying to figure out all the tools and layering process.
I have a black-and-white outline drawing that I want to color in using the "Bucket Fill" tool. There are two things I'd like to do to make it easier:
1. Is there a way to prevent Bucket Fill from leaking through small gaps in the drawing? Usually what happens is, I fill in one region, and then suddenly a much larger region gets filled in. I then have to examine the borders of the region for a small opening, close the gap with black, and then try again. Is there a feature that lets me say e.g. "Don't fill through gaps less than 4 pixels wide"?
2. Once I'm done coloring, I want to remove the black outline to make a more realistic, less cartoony image. However, it's tedious to go and paint over every segment of the outline with the color of its adjoining regions. What I want to do is essentially: Replace every black pixel in the image with the color of the closest non-black pixel. Is there a feature that does this?
Also, if there are third-party plugins that do these things, that would work just as well.
I need to create a line drawing of the outline of a chair. I tried following the various Illustrator tutorials to take the image of a chair and create a silhouette. However, I can't figure out how to take this silhouette and get just the outline of it. The Illustrator Image Trace tool doesn't seem to have an option to just save the outline.
Is there an easy way in Illustrator or Photoshop to turn this silhouette into an outline image that I can save as a file? I will print the outline in a very light opacity so that the lines are barely visible for hand rendering. I don't want to use the pen tool to outline the silhouette because my hand is too shaky to do a good job.
I followed the steps to create a font outline, manipulated the selected font, then moved to a new page-project - I inserted new type - it looks fine at 11 pt, but when I enlarged it, it still has the outline effect - also, the font becomes nothing but a black blob the more I increase the size - seems like the create outline command is still working on a new page.
How do I turn off the create outline command so I can return to regular fonts on new pages?
I have a guitar pick jpeg that is a black pen line filled with white I am using for a design. I placed the pick image into Ai and now can't figure out how to change it. I just want to select the image, and transform it into just an outline of the pick, all transparent everywhere except the outline shape of the pick. Almost the same as if I had drawn the pick with the pen tool, but I don't want to have to draw it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I create something with an outline, the outline will increase or decrease in thickness as I resize the image. So if I have something at say 10" X 10" at 4pt outline, when I resize it to 2" X 2" the outline is like 5X thicker and messes everything up.
Is there a way to combine or something with a vector so the outline auto changes or never changes thickness when resizing the graphic?
So I am basically a brand new user to ai-cs6 and have been working on a project for a friend. I've drawn up the basic components of the logo she wants, all separate individual pieces. My intention is/was to trace in each piece, and scale, rotate, and clean them up according to how the final piece should look. Where I'm running into trouble is that the sketches are not point perfect, meaning there's some shading in the hand drawn, and the lines are rough in areas. I'm trying to avoid redrawing the pieces because we both are really happy with where they're at.
What I'd like to do with ai-cs6. How to trace very simply a one line vector of the outline of the image. So instead of creating a piece that has stroke straight from the scanned in artwork, I get a single line, with multiple points, that flows the simple shape of the piece. From there it seems it would be pretty simple to just increase the stroke weight and modify the style of line to make it look how we would like. except that since the sketch has some rough line sections ai-cs6 is adding either a lot of detail and making it look pretty rough, or it's missing entire sections and leaving them blank.
I have a drawing of my business logo but it is only one layer. What is the best way to color this in gimp? I tried to the magic select tool but im really bad at staying within the lines.

Unfortunately, those would like to have a CMYK PDF image, including an additional layer for a "highlight" color (which should be gold or silver, not sure yet). I've done a bit playing and, so far, am unsure about whether (and/or how) such a kind of pre-print color separation can be done using GIMP, or whether I would have to do this in another way. how to get my xcf stored in a way feasible for this kind of printing?

I need to generate a layer with a transparent background that when viewed over the original house turns the siding a different color say blue. The idea is that once I generate that layer I can then generate more layers like it to change the colors on the different parts of the house.
What would be the correct process in GIMP to accomplish this?
A while ago, I wanted to add a border in the background color around a layer. So, I increase Layer Boundary Size using the corresponding tool. So far so good. I even wrote into a script, combined with adding drop shadow, see [URL].......
Then, I bought a new computer. I knew it. Never update or upgrade.
Now, when I increase the layer boundary size, it does increase the size of the layer, but the "border" is now transparent. I know, I know, I can fill it up using the bucket fill tool, but first of all this is annoying, and second of all, I am really wondering: what happened? Why did it work before, and doesn't it work now anymore? I am baffled. I see three possibilities:
- The GIMP installation on my new computer has some global setting differently which I am missing
- GIMP was updated and this has changed
- this is a bug, or at least a quirk, having something to do with old computer running on Win7 and new computer running on Win8
How can I turn text into a single line of dots, a la Stella McCartney's old logo?
Note: I tried creating outlines & using the dashed stroke setting but that only allows me to turn the outline/stroke of the letters into dots... I need to change the actual fill into dots.
I have the colored logo in vector but I need a crisp clean vector black and white outline.

I want to make the girl in the middle closer to the two guys, right now it looks a bit awkward. How can I do this while keeping the integrity of the background.
I have created my own graphics from scratch with GIMP, but the resolution to this issue is eluding me.
I imported a GIF map and want to add red labels. I have no problem adding the labels, but I cannot seem to get the text colored red. Before I create the text layer, the text tool shows the color is red, but it still creates it black. All of the suggestions I've seen (yes, I've read the fine manual) reference the same things, including dragging the color from the foreground color (which I've also changed to red). Nothing I've tried seems to work. I've even saved the image as an XCF, but I have the same problem.
