Photoshop :: How To Transform To Wrap Around Cylinder?
Sep 28, 2003
I have a layer that I need to transform so it appears to be wrapping around a cylinder like a pop can.
Actually so it appears to be a logo on a baseball cap. I need to give the layer a slight curved effect with a touch of perspective distortion on the ends.

I've figured out how to wrap a label around a cylinder using a 3D Photoshop layer but what I can't figure out is what ratio and size that label needs to be.
For example I have a cylinder and have loaded the texture from the Photoshop document into the Opacity section in the Properties tab but rather than it being in proportion with the cylinder it seems to stretch it. So have to edit the label document and squash the actual label, which I know is not the correct way of doing it.

I've never worked with 3D effect before (not even in the earlier versions), until now when I finally need it. I've therefore searched the Internet and the Adobe Forums in order to get to know how to wrap a text/image around a glass bottle in Photoshop CS6. I've found several answers and tutorials, but none of them regards CS6 or they are simply too primitive, whereby the effect is too fake. But when I try follow the instructions in the explanations/tutorials I've found so far for earlier versions of Photoshop (especially regarding 3D effects), I can't find the right buttons, commands, etc. - I can't make it work. how to do wrap a text/image around a bottle/cylinder/object in Photoshop CS6?

I need to wrap some curve on a cylinder, after which i need to emboss the feature onto the cylinder.
I had sketches the curve and wrap it but was unable to emboss it to the cylinder.

Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.
I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.
A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.
In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.

I wanted to make it look like it is on a can or something similar, how would I correctly warp it? I can't get accurate enough results using displace or liquify, is there any way that involves tracing the actual curve of the can image?

I came across this thread
[URL]..........
explaining how to wrap a label around a cylinder. However when I try myself, I obtain an enormous 3D cylinder with my label glued on it and once I reduce the size of the cylinder to the desired size, my label is minuscule. Additionally, it takes me ages to rotate/scale the cylinder in the right way.
Why is the 3D cylinder provided by Photoshop so enormous ?

I'm working on some packaging and product manuals for a product that is a cylindrical tube (say like an awareness bracelet). The final product is supposed to have some branding silkscreened onto it, wrapped around the tube. I have a spec sample of the item that I will be using for product photos but it doesn't have the branding that I'm going to print on it. I'm going to have to map the artwork that will be printed on the final product onto the photos that will be taken.
I'm trying to figure out a way that I can take the branding and map it onto photos of the product in photoshop in proper perspective (so that it looks realistic)
I've already searched the web and didn't find any good solutions. (Most of what I found was tutorials on wrapping labels on a soda can. This could be good if I could quickly and precisely position a 3D object in photoshop directly over my photo and then map my artwork onto that shape, making sure that the 3d geometry is invisible while the artwork that I map on remains visible, but my experimenting did no yield good results. I also tried using Illustrator's 3d tools but I found that when rotating 3D shapes, they don't rotate in perspective [you cant get shapes to appear as if they are in 3 point perspective] and so I would not be able to properly overlay an illustrator 3d shape over an image.)
I'm sure this had to be done before and I'm sure there's a simple straightforward way to do this.

I am trying to make a mock up advertisement for my car. I want to show people what they're companies logo would look like as a vinyl wrap on my car. I have Cut out the painted body of my car with the lasso tool and wouldand have a graphics image and would like to get an exact cut out of the image to fit on my car. I still want the refelctions to show through so it looks glossy instead of matte. I was assuming if I lowered the opacity it would allow for the reflections to go through but then the red of the car shines through and I was having trouble recoloring the car black to match the graphics. Is there anyway to just add shine to the image I wanna use as the wrap?

I am having trouble w/ entering text that will auto wrap. I am using PS 6. I drag the text box (which should put me in paragraph mode) and when I type, the words 'disappear' off the edge of the text box instead of auto wrap.
If I hit enter, the next line jumps to the bottom of page/box.
I don't want to have to type each line as a separate text box, but so far that is the only way to get it to work.

I like to make patterns in photoshop and usually my only way of doing this is by making an image, then transforming it down 50% and left 50% (So it takes up 1/4th the image) then pasting the image to fill up the other 3 quadrants. After doing this I can see the seams that would normally be at the edge of my pattern, then I can edit them out. This gets more and more time consuming as my patterns get more complicated.
I was wondering if there is any way to change the brush tool so that if I draw over the edge of the canvas, the brush will automatically send those pixels to the opposide side. Sort of like in old NES games where you could run off the edge of a level and reappear on the other side of it. Or you could stand on the edge of the level and mario would be half on the left and half on the right. Does anyone know what im referring to?

I want to put text on a Christmas ornament. How can I make it look like it's actually printed on the 3-d sphere? I've tried warp text, but that doesn't look right either. Is there a way to do it? Is there some sort of text path tool and then I can apply warp?
I'm using CS2.

This is a detail shot of an ongoing project for a Group Challenge. The supplied image was the door and steps, and you can see what theme I am going with. The entire guitar has been constructed as PS illustrations. The strings are a four layer smart object bent from the Nut to the tuning pegs with Puppet warp, but I need to curve the strings around the pegs to look like they have been wound.

I have a photograph of a jar and a smart object which is my label. If I go: >3D >New mesh from layer >Mesh preset >Cylinder - then the label is wrapped around the cylinder and is actually perfect - job done.
Questions:
- How to I make the Cylinder transperant so I only see the label
- How do I get out of the 3D window so I can place my wrapped label on the photograph of the jar?
I can't work this out (I have previous experience with Cinema 4d and Modo) or find instructions/YouTube videos that make sense.

I have a procedurally generated image (a bird's eye terrain map). The edges wrap-around (I can tile the image without seams) I applied the Sponge artistic filter on it, but the edges don't match anymore.
Is there any way to get a Photoshop filter to recognize the opposite edge's pixels so that it maintains my tile effect?
