It's duplicating the layer style along with the layer which is fine but now when I change the style on one layer it changes all of those other layers as well. Is there a way to turn this off? I even tried removing the style and adding it new and it still changes the original!
View 1 RepliesI am having several problems with my xrefs. My two big problems are xrefs bringing in way more information than I want, and they are duplicating if they are selected, even when I have the xref layers locked.
My set up is this:
I have a plan file, a grid line file, an elevation file, and a section file.
I want all files to be referenced to each other. However, I do not want duplicates of any xref. For instance, in my section drawing, I will reference my plan file which consequently brings in any file that is referenced in the plan file. I know that I will get the circular reference warning and that I can click continue. However, is there any way I can just get "1 degree of nesting"?
Second, I cannot figure out how to lock my xrefs to prevent them from constantly being selected. My problem is that in my live drawing information, if I select everything within my window and an xref is in that window, it will be copied. I don't ever want to duplicate my xrefs, but I can't find a way to lock them (even when locking xref layers).
Every time you duplicate a folder or a layer, it adds the word "Copy" at the end. Is there a way to get rid of this?
I've been looking for a solution to this for the past 2 years. I spend 8 hours a day in Photoshop creating Comps. I'm crazy about having my layers clean, therefore I use a lot of folders, etc.
I probably waste an hour a day removing the $%)?#* Copy word at the end of layers/folders. This is driving me CRAZY while losing a lot of precious time.
Is there any way to say to PS so it will duplicate X layer to "document -1"? When I record and duplicate it saves it at strictly to Y document not to "document" -1 or +1 or +x.
View 7 Replies View RelatedUnless PS has been updated to make this a feature, i may have found a bug. Now (in CS6 vs. previous versions) when you duplicate a shape layer, if you had previously selected specific points of the shape (for example with the direct selection tool) only those points will be duplicated in the new layer. This is true no matter what tool you are currently using.
What I did was make a rounded-corner rectangle shape -> then direct selected all points on one side to stretch the rectangle without distorting the rounded corners -> then switched to the move tool so no points were selected anymore and only the layer was selected-> duplicate layer (with the intention of duplicating the whole shape). what i got was just the rounded corners on a new layer.
It seems the only way to duplicate the shape layer in its entirety is to go back with the direct select tool -> select ALL points of the whole shape -> change to move tool -> dupe layer.
If that's the intended new functionality, it's a bummer because if you intend to only duplicate certain points, you can already do that while using the direct select tool. Using the move tool, it shows no direct selections and therefore you should be able to duplicate the whole layer.
Maybe I have some weird default option checked that I'm not familiar with? This is not how any previous versions of PS worked and will add friction to my workflow if this is new.
In order to make a copy of a layer. I know I make a copy of the layer, but then I'm having issues taking the layer, and reversing it horizontally so that I can create a new layer using the previous copied layer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I've been experimenting with it. I'm now able to create really nice and curvy looking hills, but still just not able to copy it, and reverse it.

Additional info:
1. The front cover layer of the 3D eCover is not yet merged with the other layers. So, I can still edit it.
2. I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6.
I want to create a plug-in that will improve detail in under- and over-exposed areas of photos, but I can't get as far as duplicating a layer. I'm new to GIMP plug-ins. My plug-in below is intended to create a copy of the image's layer and add the layer to the image.
The plug-in will register in Windows 7 (GIMP 2.8) but won't register in Ubuntu 12.04 (GIMP 2.6.12). In Windows, the plug-in gives an error. I don't get an error if I comment out line 8: Code:
Im created a shape and on the first shape I put a stroke and now every shape I do has a stroke even if I dont want one. I keep having to delete it and also something is weird as when I create a shape and then click another the one I just created disappears. It says its a vector mask and so its not a shape and but I click the mask it appears but clicking or creating another shape it dissappears.
Okay so played around and it seems every new shape took on the fill of the previous shape which was 0. How do I stop new shapes from not having 0 fill?
Is there a way to stop Dim Style Override, so it does not automatically apply to new dimension? Without having to go into dim styles and delete style override manually?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a clipping mask on a layer. The base layer that the clipping mask is referencing has a layer effect applied (in this case an inner shadow). I want to make it so the layer effect is only applied to the base layer and NOT the clipped layers.
Below is an example of what I'm talking about. as you can see, layer 1 has the base layer's inner shadow applied to it. I want the inner shadow to be hidden by Layer 1, but the clipping mask to still apply.
how i edit them at the same time like it works with linking 2 layers?
or how i apply one layer style to multiple layers is also ok...
I double click a layer name to change it, it brings up layer style box instead.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to edit on a certain layer, for example layer 1: My current layer happens to be layer 2, so: I click on layer 1 to make it current. I do the editing & it isn't quite what I want, so I undo theaction. As I undo the action, CS6 also undoes my layer change (i.e makes tolayer 2 current again) even though I want layer 1 to remain the current one. Is there any way to change this in edit preferences or somewhere?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI like the way a layer of mine looks with a layer style (color burn) applied to it. I want to rasterize or do something to the layer so that it looks that way when the layer style is normal, kinda of how when you have effects assigned to a layer and when you rasterize it the effects merge with the layer.
Obviously just rasterizing the layer isn't how to do it but its the closest thing I could think of, does anyone know what I could do here?
I have supposedly disabled all the "snap" features in Photoshop, however, whenever I try to make minute transforms with the skew tool it always "snaps" (often closing a huge gap) to either it's previous vector, or one of the other points.
How do I stop this before I hit my head on the desk repeatedly in frustration?
Ctrl, etc., like with the move tool, does nothing differently.
When I apply a Layer Style, like Drop Shadow, to an object on a transparent layer, I would like to put that Layer Style on its own layer. Then I would have some more options in working with it, like Transform. I'm using Photoshop CS6 Standard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm new to gimp and wanted to make a GIF. I watched a few Youtube videos and followed all the steps until saving as a GIF. On the versions they used (i am using 2.8) there was a box to stop it merging layers but i can not see this on 2.8.
Now whenever i save as a GIF and try and use it, it only shows the last layer.
PS i know you need to export to save as a GIF.
I'm creating a drawing with multiple layers, but I keep dragging the background layer by accident. I've tried selecting the layer I want to move before dragging with the move tool, but this doesn't stop it. I've tried selecting the chain in the layers toolbox, but this just locks the layers into one group which gets dragged off the edge of the canvas. Is there any way to render the background stationary?

its very annoying to make something in gimp with a lot of layers, they become small! too small, and then when i want to delete many layers, they stay small.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI added inner and outer glow and a drop shadow to an image. Now I want to keep only the glow and shadow parts but delete the rest of the image so it is transparent. Is there an easy way to do this?
Here is more detail about what I am trying to do if it helps. I want to make a team photo of video game characters I have trimmed out individually. When you mouse over them they highlight in the glow effect. I have done this by making background photo with the entire picture with all the characters already added.
Then I have CSS hover attributes that cover each character with another version that has the glow effect. I am not sure this is the best way but it works. My problem is the multiple png files add up quickly. If I could trim out all the detail and just keep the outline glow I think the file size would easily cut in half or more for each character.
Is it possible to apply a layer style to only part of a layer or hide part of the style?
