Im new to gimp and wanted to make a GIF. I watched a few Youtube videos and followed all the steps until saving as a GIF. On the versions they used (i am using 2.8) there was a box to stop it merging layers but i can not see this on 2.8.
Now whenever i save as a GIF and try and use it, it only shows the last layer.
PS i know you need to export to save as a GIF.
I used GAP to create animated fire and I want to know if there's a way to save each layer as a png without merging or flattening the image.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a drawing with multiple layers, but I keep dragging the background layer by accident. I've tried selecting the layer I want to move before dragging with the move tool, but this doesn't stop it. I've tried selecting the chain in the layers toolbox, but this just locks the layers into one group which gets dragged off the edge of the canvas. Is there any way to render the background stationary?
I'm using GIMP 2.8.0
is it possible for gimp to have those windows with text(small in layers) to keep same height-width..
its very annoying to make something in gimp with a lot of layers, they become small! too small, and then when i want to delete many layers, they stay small.
I want to be big windows all the time.
I have been painting a 3d model in photoshop cs6 but I appear to have some kind of bad setting (which I am at wit's end trying to find out) which causes any 2d layer I try to merge down onto the 3d layer to be projected with some very large amount of transparency.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using Photoshop for over 4 years now and only recently have I been faced with something I wanted to do but dont know how to do: editing 2 layers at once.
I understand you can put 2 layers in a set or use the layer link option in the layers pallete, to essentially move 2 layers around the workspace at once. However, what is the solution for applying blur/dodge/burn/smudge type effects but having it take effect on 2 seperate layers.
I know that I could merge them together and this problem would be circumvented entirely but thats not what I want. I sitll want to have them seperate, once Im done. I also know there is a long process I could do of saving the selection of one layer, merging it with the other layer, applying changes and then using the saved selection to extract the content back onto a seperate layer again.
I just updated to CS, and its giving me issues. Whenever I set the blending mode of one layer in a layer set and then try to merge it below, it changes what it looks like merged as opposed to when they were seperate layers. For example. with Soft Light, certain areas became darked after merging the layers. What am I doing wrong?

Procedure appears to create halos around items of contrasting colors, amounting to about 50 px in thickness. See Halos.jpg, attached.2. The image is of a daylily having abundant texture on its petals. Near the border of the composite, running parallel to the border, are ~200-px bands of pure color, i.e., washed-out areas, containing pure, featureless color, where there should be texture. Please see defocusbands01.jpg and defocusbands02.jpg, attached Further details: Photos were made with Leica DMR 10 Mpx sensor. Merged image is 3939 x 2627 px. in size. Extended DOF procedure was as follows: Â

Just downloaded CS6 Photoshop off the creative cloud and the merge layer command does not work. What is happening is there is one layer with a layer style then a shape layer and when I hit Cmd E it merges the layers but the layer style will not merge with it. I was chatting it up and everything they recommended did not work. It works on all my other co-workers computers and we are all on the cloud. I tried renaming pref. folder, settings folder, re-installing, holding down shft+option+cmd on start up. I also created a test account but that turned out to be a major inconvenience. Once logged into the account there is nothing there. The suggestions just started getting more ridiculous as chat proceeded. Nothing.

Any solution where I don't have to create a whole new admin account just to see if CS6 Photoshop works correctly? Adobe customer portal is about worthless.
I have 3 layers.
The first is at the top. It's a radial gradient which is set to the layer blending mode "Color".
The second is in the middle. It is a black and white difference cloud layer that is set to overlay.
At the bottom is my third layer. It is supposed to be a bunch of stars. By stars, I mean a noise filter applied to a black canvas.
The problem is that if I "blend visible" or "blend down", it looks nothing like what it showed me when i turned on the visibility on on all of the layers. It also looks completely different when i zoom in.
First, the help files, as of today (they worked before) have mysteriously ceased working. If I click on Photoshop Help, I get the error message "The memory could not be written." The same message appears if I try to reinstall Adobe Help Center, and when I attempted to reinstall CS2 entirely.
Secondly, the reason I needed the help files is because my color layer will (as of today) not merge with other layers. When I try to merge a layer set to "color" with, say, a "normal" layer, the color effect automatically disables as it merges, leaving a horrible mass of paintwork on top of where my nicely shaded color effect used to be. Now, I am certain color layers used to blend, as I've done this simple operation many times.
Reinstalling Photoshop CS2 hasn't fixed either of these problems, rendering it almost unusable (I use color layers a lot).
I'm making an animated GIF, and what I want to do is overlay each layer of the animation with a layer of text. I know the hard and long way by creating a copy of the text layer and merging it with each and every layer of the animation, but is any faster way of doing this?

Now I want to tear the top right-hand corner.
I've done many "tears" successfully, but this one is defeating me.
I use the lassoo to select the part I want to tear, then click Edit Cut, Edit Paste, and it creates a new floating layer. When I anchor that layer, it merges itself back into the original image.
In previous attempts, when I have anchored the layer, it has remained separate from the original.
What am I doing wrong that it is merging itself into the original?
I scanned a drawing I made as a .jpeg, opened it in PS CS4, converted the background to a layer, added a curves adjustment layer, and when I try any of Flatten Image or Save as Jpeg the results disregards all or part of the effects of the adjustment layer. The same happens for a levels adjustment layer . I have attached the original jpeg and the .psd with the curves adjustment layer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm trying to make a modified loading screen for a game (Homeworld 2 to be exact) but I'm not sure how to do this. You see the loading screen has a black background with a blue line in the shape of a hud, with the actual picture inside of it (Example, the loading bar is rendered dynamically and not part of the image). What I was thinking of doing, is erasing the inside, then copy & pasting the picture I want as a new layer over it, then cropping out the area outside the blue "hud" to give a black background with a internal picture. I was wondering if there would be a way to do that without overwriting the blue outline and having to do it manually.

It's really hard to explain what exactly I want to know, but I'd like to make something similar with a collage of smaller pictures that all sort of merge into each other like they do in the example. Questions:
- How do I get the backgrounds (of the whole thing, and each separate image) to just fade out/into each other so seamlessly?
- Is there a way to make a layer transparent in some parts but not in others?
It's duplicating the layer style along with the layer which is fine but now when I change the style on one layer it changes all of those other layers as well. Is there a way to turn this off? I even tried removing the style and adding it new and it still changes the original!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to edit on a certain layer, for example layer 1: My current layer happens to be layer 2, so: I click on layer 1 to make it current. I do the editing & it isn't quite what I want, so I undo theaction. As I undo the action, CS6 also undoes my layer change (i.e makes tolayer 2 current again) even though I want layer 1 to remain the current one. Is there any way to change this in edit preferences or somewhere?

Ctrl, etc., like with the move tool, does nothing differently.
While opening new picture with gimp, it asked me if i want gimp to change the orientation of picture. I accidently marked "Do not ask again" and pressed "YES" button. So now, every time i open new picture, it automatically changes orientation(rotates whole picture 90deg). How to stop it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't want my images to default to "snap to guides." I have guides up on most of my files because I use them for spacing my comic; I work from a template so I can have consistent sizing. But I only rarely ever want to snap to those guides.
Yes, I can turn off the snapping, but I have to do this EVERY F***ING TIME. Open a file I've been working on already? Gotta disable the snapping. Open a new file? Gotta disable the snapping. Restarting GIMP because it just crashed? Gotta disable the snapping. Every freaking time for each freaking image. Gimp won't save the setting to the file nor to my preferred settings.
How can I get GIMP to stop setting the guides to snap by default?
Just got my Wacom draw tablet working with GIMP....but now I have a whole new set of issues GIMP will not respond to either the Wacom pen or mouse then stops responding to my main keyboard and main mouse ., lets me draw a little on one layer and then just stops working. Today when I tried to configure the tablet settings in the tool box it didn't read the tablet at all. And yes the tablet was plugged in. I think I am starting to hate GIMP.

When I try to create new text in a layer that's outside of this layer group, it will select an existing text layer located wherever I click -- even though the selected text layer is invisible and in another layer group. I simply want to create new text on a new layer wherever I click and not worry about selecting invisible text.

I'm using Gimp 2.6 on Ubuntu. I open the GIMP, and I'm going along just fine, then all of a sudden I can't get the dialog box for a tool I'm using and I can't view the layers tool box. If I close everything and open GIMP again, it will work for a while.
Is there something I can do to stop the appearance of random straight lines? They appear to randomly leap out from the tablet pen curser to the edge of the screen. Pressure sensitivity does seem to work--everything works perfectly with the exception of these bizzare lines!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can no longer make changes to one of my gimp files. Everytime I select a tool such as pen, pencil sprbrush, the mouse icon changes, but when i try to draw nothing happens. It seems like all the other tools work, i tried the following
1. made sure the correct layer was selected
2. exit gimp and re-run it.
I'm stuck.
I just opened up GIMP and to my horror it had been changed completely without my consent.
First question: I assume this was some sort of automatic update. How do I turn that off, so that I have control over whether or not I want to update?
Second question: How do I go back to the previous version? I can't find basic functions, because they've been moved.
I was trying to do a quick project, and to learn a whole new set up. I'm appalled to find that my program's been changed without giving me any choice in the matter, and then having to sign up on a list serve to fix the problem. Why not set up a forum, where we can subscribe to just the thread that's relevant to us?

When attempting to add simple text on an individual layer, the layer is turning black. This prevents me from seeing the text I'm editing. When I move to another layer the text displays correctly. When I go to edit the text by clicking the image the layer goes black again. It is like editing text in the dark, turning the light on to see the changes, turning the light off to make the changes, repeat.
