Photoshop :: Merging Layer Problem In CS

Apr 13, 2006

I just updated to CS, and its giving me issues. Whenever I set the blending mode of one layer in a layer set and then try to merge it below, it changes what it looks like merged as opposed to when they were seperate layers. For example. with Soft Light, certain areas became darked after merging the layers. What am I doing wrong?

Photoshop :: Merging 2D With 3D Layer In CS6 / 2D Layer Always Transparent?

Dec 23, 2012

I have been painting a 3d model in photoshop cs6 but I appear to have some kind of bad setting (which I am at wit's end trying to find out) which causes any 2d layer I try to merge down onto the 3d layer to be projected with some very large amount of transparency.

Photoshop :: Merging A Layer With The Background

Photoshop :: Editing 2 Layer Without Merging

Mar 14, 2006

I have been using Photoshop for over 4 years now and only recently have I been faced with something I wanted to do but dont know how to do: editing 2 layers at once.

I understand you can put 2 layers in a set or use the layer link option in the layers pallete, to essentially move 2 layers around the workspace at once. However, what is the solution for applying blur/dodge/burn/smudge type effects but having it take effect on 2 seperate layers.

I know that I could merge them together and this problem would be circumvented entirely but thats not what I want. I sitll want to have them seperate, once Im done. I also know there is a long process I could do of saving the selection of one layer, merging it with the other layer, applying changes and then using the saved selection to extract the content back onto a seperate layer again.

Photoshop :: Merging A Stacked Layer Set

May 26, 2009

I just completed a procedure to merge five images, taken with manual focus at evenly spaced distance intervals, to increase depth of field (DOF). There are two issues1. Procedure appears to create halos around items of contrasting colors, amounting to about 50 px in thickness. See Halos.jpg, attached.2. The image is of a daylily having abundant texture on its petals. Near the border of the composite, running parallel to the border, are ~200-px bands of pure color, i.e., washed-out areas, containing pure, featureless color, where there should be texture. Please see defocusbands01.jpg and defocusbands02.jpg, attached Further details: Photos were made with Leica DMR 10 Mpx sensor. Merged image is 3939 x 2627 px. in size. Extended DOF procedure was as follows:
a. Open 5 raw (DNG) images in ACR | open images (in Photoshop editor);

b. File | Scripts | Load files into stack | Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images;

c. Layers | Select all;

d. Edit | Auto-blend Layers | Stack Images | Seamless tones and Colors;

e. Flatten and save output file as PSD.

Photoshop :: Merging Layers With Layer Styles

Oct 25, 2012

Just downloaded CS6 Photoshop off the creative cloud and the merge layer command does not work. What is happening is there is one layer with a layer style then a shape layer and when I hit Cmd E it merges the layers but the layer style will not merge with it. I was chatting it up and everything they recommended did not work. It works on all my other co-workers computers and we are all on the cloud. I tried renaming pref. folder, settings folder, re-installing, holding down shft+option+cmd on start up. I also created a test account but that turned out to be a major inconvenience. Once logged into the account there is nothing there. The suggestions just started getting more ridiculous as chat proceeded. Nothing.

Any solution where I don't have to create a whole new admin account just to see if CS6 Photoshop works correctly? Adobe customer portal is about worthless.

Photoshop :: Layer Merging Doesn't Work

Jul 14, 2008

I have 3 layers.

The first is at the top. It's a radial gradient which is set to the layer blending mode "Color".

The second is in the middle. It is a black and white difference cloud layer that is set to overlay.

At the bottom is my third layer. It is supposed to be a bunch of stars. By stars, I mean a noise filter applied to a black canvas.

The problem is that if I "blend visible" or "blend down", it looks nothing like what it showed me when i turned on the visibility on on all of the layers. It also looks completely different when i zoom in.

Photoshop :: Help Files And Color Layer Merging

Jan 25, 2007

First, the help files, as of today (they worked before) have mysteriously ceased working. If I click on Photoshop Help, I get the error message "The memory could not be written." The same message appears if I try to reinstall Adobe Help Center, and when I attempted to reinstall CS2 entirely.

Secondly, the reason I needed the help files is because my color layer will (as of today) not merge with other layers. When I try to merge a layer set to "color" with, say, a "normal" layer, the color effect automatically disables as it merges, leaving a horrible mass of paintwork on top of where my nicely shaded color effect used to be. Now, I am certain color layers used to blend, as I've done this simple operation many times.

Reinstalling Photoshop CS2 hasn't fixed either of these problems, rendering it almost unusable (I use color layers a lot).

Photoshop :: Adjustment Layer Effects Lost When Merging Layers

Jul 4, 2012

I scanned a drawing I made as a .jpeg, opened it in PS CS4, converted the background to a layer, added a curves adjustment layer, and when I try any of Flatten Image or Save as Jpeg the results disregards all or part of the effects of the adjustment layer. The same happens for a levels adjustment layer . I have attached the original jpeg and the .psd with the curves adjustment layer.

Now whenever i save as a GIF and try and use it, it only shows the last layer.

PS i know you need to export to save as a GIF.

Photoshop :: CS5 / Merging Layers Isn't Quite Same

Dec 18, 2012

I have a document with three "normal" layers and two hue/saturation adjustment layers. They're at the top. The next two layers, and the adjustment layers, have layer masks. The bottom layer has no mask. The blend mode between the fourth and fifth layers (counting from the top) is "Hard Light".  The blend mode for all other layers is "normal", and all opacities are 100%.

When I flatten the layers, what I get is not what I had before the layers are different, hard to describe exactly how.  I notice that if I merge the fourth and fifth layers (with the "Hard Light" blend mode), and only those two layers, I get the same behavior as when I flatten the entire image.

So why would merging two layers that have the "Hard Light" blend mode at 100% opacity look different than when the layers aren't merged?

Photoshop :: Layers Merging By Themselves

I have just bought CS4. I was using PSP X2 so have some knowledge of how things work.

I'm having a problem with layers.

I open up a background layer - fine.

I add a second layer and add an image - fine.

I add a third layer but when I add an image, the first two layers automatically merge together into a new background layer.

The images are all the same size and being added from the bridge.

Photoshop :: Merging Pictures Together?

Jan 16, 2006

I got an idea for a tattoo that I am wanting to get and the idea is very vivid in my mind, the problem is that I cannot find any "flash" for what it is that I want. I asked a friend of mine for help as he is a graphic artist, and he suggested I get familiar with Photoshop, so here I am. Here is somewhat of a graphical description of what I am attempting to do...

What I am going for is 3 seperate eagles all merged together (or layered on top of each other) in order to create one single piece for my back. The first eagle will create the center of the design with the second eagle above it and to the left a bit with the third eagle to the back of the first one and below the second to make it all one piece.

What I need to know is what would be the best way for a beginner to start doing all this? I am not a freeloader and am not at all intimidated by doing things myself, just a kick in the right direction should suffice. Thank you all in advance for your support. I know that I need to first get all three images onto the same pallet and extract the heads only (white feathers) from the first two images then merge them all together somehow.

Photoshop :: Merging Two Images

Jun 25, 2007

I wanted to photograph a scene that had a very wide contrast range. The range was beyond the camera's ability to obtain proper exposure in the shadows without blowing out the bright areas of the scene.

I had read that Photoshop has a capability to combine one image that recorded good detail in the highlights, with a second exposure that captured detail in the midtones and shadows. So, I put my camera on a tripod and took the two exposures while maintaining the position of my camera.

Using PS CS2 and my Windows PC, I would like to merge the two images using a layer mask to selectively include only the properly exposed portions of the images. The problem is I can't get started. The initial two steps are evading me, despite consulting all of my CS2 text references. The steps are:

1. How do I get both images on the PS screen at the same time; and

2. The first image I open in PS creates a Background layer. How do I get the second image to be a layer just above the Background layer?

Photoshop :: Merging 2 Pictures Together

Feb 17, 2003

I do a lot of image editing, example cutting out pictures of a persons's head and place it on a picture w/c contain a body such as a king, princess, soldeirs etc. I often cut out pictures from digital shots and put them on a normal .jpg file to merge them. The issue is that the color profiles/brightness/contrass of the 2 pictures are not the same so it's very clear that they are edited.

I tried them all, under "Image-Adjust" then changing the image's hue/saturation, color balace, brightness/contrast however most of my works are still very noticeable that it's edited. only a handful of few shots comes out really blended that well.

Photoshop :: Merging Together Images

Apr 9, 2009

how to use Photoshop to some degree and there are all kinds of tricks out there... Well online I found images taken by an airplane in 1951 of the ground below it. They are shots of the county I currently live in. I was looking to merge some of the photographs together into bigger images. However when attemping to merge the original photographs together I've run into a roadblock. From what I can guess, the plane was flying at a different altitude and maybe a slight angle when it took each picture of the areas of the county. The images just wont line up. I attempt to rotate and skew the image but it just never seems right. I can get the rotation looking almost perfect but then some parts of the image look like its too big on one side and then too small on the other side. Its almost looks as if its been tilted on the "z-axis".

Photoshop :: Merging Two Images...

I have an immediate need to overlay one image on top of another, blending the two -- like the effect you'd get if you double-exposed a film negative.

I have no idea how to to do this, and poking around the online help file isn't giving up quickly, any clues. Usually, when I poke around in Photoshop (6.0), I find it pretty undecipherable.
