Photoshop :: Histograms: Tone Or Saturation?

Oct 11, 2008

In the histogram palette menu there are red, green and blue histograms to give the saturation of those colors, and a luminosity histogram to give the overall ( greyscale) brightness. There is also an RGB option, presumably to give a composite version of the red, green and blue saturation. In Levels, however we have the same thing, except there is no luminosity option, only RGB. But RGB in this case cannot be a composite of the three color channels, as we use it to adjust brightness and contrast; in other words it is presumably the same as Luminosity in the histogram palette. Despite this, when I do adjustments to an image the RGB histogram in Levels looks identical to the RGB histogram in the histogram palette. I'm using PS 3 Extended.

Photoshop :: CS5 / Saturation Changes After Tone-mapping?

Jul 31, 2012

For quite a while I have been using the Photoshop HDR for initial processing of my HDR shots. My workflow is to "open in HDR Pro in Photoshop" from Lightroom. With LR 3.x and CS5 there was no problem - make the initial tonemapping settings in CS5, hit "OK", and save the resultant TIF back to lightroom for further processing.

With LR 4.1 I do the same thing, the files import into CS6 and the tonemapping window comes up, but after I hit OK in the tonemapping window, the resultant tonemapped TIF file is oversaturated(This still in CS6). It needs about 30 points of saturation reduction in LR to get it back to what it showed in the tonemapping window.

I have colour gamut set for Pro Photo RGB in both LR and PS. I can show some screen captures later.

Photoshop :: CS6 Building Histograms On Every Action

Aug 6, 2013

I am on OSX using Photoshop CS6.

For a couple months now I have experienced the "Building Histograms" dialog appearing on nearly every move or action; moving an object, adjusting a shape, zooming in & out, simply selecting an object.

The building of the histograms almost always takes up to 10+ seconds to complete.

I have followed other topics where there was no solid professional answer to the problem.  The closest thing everyone was able to pin it on was the use of an extension or add-on.  I have none of these.

In my opinion an update / fix should be applied for this.  I won't be interested in further debugging or providing information.  Simply stating that I am experiencing this for history sake.

Photoshop :: CS5 Building Histograms With Every File Change?

Sep 22, 2010

I am working in Photoshop CS5 on a MacPro with Snow Leopard, 10.6.4. I have a file that is a little over a gigabyte open. Every time I make any changes to the file (i.e. select a different layers, grab the text tool, etc.) a menu pops up with a progress bar and says it is building the histgrams.

This process happens with EVERY move. As you can imagine, this has slowed my productivity down to a crawl. Can I do anything to make it stop rebuilding the histograms at every step?

Photoshop :: Creating Histograms - Secret Behind Cache Level

Apr 21, 2013

Photoshop creates several preview images (more smaller than the original) for displaying the effects and creating histograms. So, I think that if I choose the cache level as 1 in the preference window, Photoshop does not create any smaller preview and it always displays information according to the original file.

But, this is not the case, as far as I can see. I set my cache level to 1 and it still displays histogram for cache level 3. So, my question is ... what is the secret behind the cache level?

Photoshop :: Saturation

Aug 21, 2006

I have designed a brochure for a friend but the Printers say there is an issue with the saturation on the black.

The saturation I have done is apparently 400% but should be under 300%.
I assume the brochures are being digitally printed as opposed to traditional methods.

My questions are:

How do I find out what the saturation of the black is ?
....and how do I change the black saturation without changing the saturartion on the rest of the colours ?

Photoshop :: Hue/Saturation

Mar 22, 2004

I go to use the Hue/Saturation Editor thing, Photoshop messes up on me. It goes to the eyedropper tool, the "X" in the top right corner goes faded, so that I can't click on it, but I can select colors on the picture (with the eyedropper) and on the little 2 color pallete thing in the bottom left corner, where it displays the foreground and background color. I can switch them, with the arrow, but nothing else, i can't switch layers, I can't select any other tools, or anything. Can someone help me with this? Also, this might help, I was following a tutorial that required me to change some sort of properties... a link to the tutorial is below; If you download the .PSD file, a warning box pops up on photoshop when you try and open it...

Photoshop :: How To Adjust Hue And Saturation For PS...

Dec 4, 2008

I usually use FW for my styles-based graphics (menubars, text effects), but have recently begun to experiment with PS.

However, I've noticed that when applying a style to text (Baltic Sea Ice, for example), even after I rasterize the text layer, I am still unable to alter the color by changing the hue / saturation in order to match a precise color scheme. Is there another way to do this?

I have an image that I want to lighten one color. I choose "color range" and select the color and it has dotted lines around it. Then, I want to play with that color or area of the image and try different saturations or colors. BUT, when I try that, the main layer with the image is not selected. So no changes are registered..... just the layer for hue/saturation is highlighted so I can't do anything to change this color. Seems that, automatically, the NON IMAGE layer becomes the only one I can work with when I select hue/saturation...

Photoshop :: De-saturation In Save For Web

When I save for web, I get a weird de-saturation in my image and I have never come across this before. This weekend I tried to save an image to be optimized, and it came out all digitized and looking like crap. So I wanted to go back and save it at the higher setting.

Now, there is no pixilation, but my colors are muted.

The bottom image is what it SHOULD look like, and the top image is what saves when I save for web.

I have been running CS4 for about five months. There have been problems - speed, stability - but here is a new one. Out of the blue, selecting the Hue-Saturation panel eithe rthrough the menu or by keystroke brings up the eyedropper - functioning - but essentially crashes Photoshop. It goes on running - you get 'blind' menues - but it is impossible to switch the eydropper off and you consequently have to close CS4 from Windows. I have rebooted, it still happens.

Photoshop :: Saturation Not Holding

Jan 16, 2005

When I adjust the hue and saturation on a image (big adjustments like + 60 on sat, + 10 on hue) and click OK the colors revert back to about 15%, or less, of what I raised them to.

1. This only happens on a particular image that I scanned in.

2. This did not happen on the first few prints of this image (didn’t save settings, etc., so I had to redo the next time - a few days later). And it doesn't happen on any of my other images (non-scans).

I've tried reloading it from the CD that I burned and starting over, but it does the same thing.

(Using Photoshop 7 and trying to print with an Epson 2200.)

Photoshop :: Make Own Hue / Saturation Color?

Sep 19, 2013

Id like to know if its possible to make own hue/saturaiton colour. What I mean by this is we get an option for red,yellow,greens etc etc.

But lets say we have an image over clusted with brown, and we would like to have that option to reduce the browness in an image. so Is there a way

we can make our custom colour? Like the example below this guys face has a brownish colour to it, and with the colour picker I get a #b56b3e which seems related to the brown colour family.so Id like to make that #b56b3e into a colour of my Hue / Saturation. so I have the option in the drop down menu.

Photoshop :: De-Saturation Mask Not Working

Mar 9, 2012

I am trying to create one of those images where you desaturate all the color out of an image and leave only a few select "highlight" components in color for effect...  so I go to the layer, click on the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" button at the bottom of the layers panel (next to create mask), and use the Hue/Saturation option, then desaturate the setting, then paint bucket the layer to black, and then use a white brush to wipe out the colors in the areas that I want.  It seems like it does it fine, but the thing is, it doesnt desaturate 100%.  This has happened in another "desaturate" process (cant remember what it was exactly).  It seems to take out the color but there is still definitely some brownish or whatever hue in there.. it shows as such when I use an eyedropper to check the "new color," and when I turn the image into grayscale, it defintely is different.

So why can tthe white brush desaturate the colors 100%  There must be some other setting I am missing?

Photoshop :: Options When Adjusting Hue / Saturation?

Feb 28, 2012

Using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer:

1. Do you ideally want to go through and adjust Reds, Yellows, greens, Cyans, Magentas individually? Are final results not as good if you just adjust the Master by itself?
2. Looking at my imgage, I do not see any blues, however, when I adjust the hue slide while having blue selected, I see some slight changes to my image. I'm guessing that this means that there are some slight blues in the image.

Would you just leave the blues alone in a situation like this, or is there some graph that you use to make changes even if you do not see the colors in the actual image?
