Photoshop :: Extract Image From Background
Apr 12, 2012
I know this is a simple task if you understand masks better than I do but I normally slave away with max zoom and an eraser until I get the image extracted the way it looks good. Unfortunately for this image its going to be blown up and when I look at it the girl appears like she has been eaten around on all edges by termites.

How I extract a reasonably dark image from its background? Below are two identical images with white background.
But the preset color of my vistaprint business card is light blue. So I just want to paste the image from the links below onto a light blue business card if that is possible.
[URL]........
[URL]........
This is almost 100% what I want: [URL].......
but for some reason the resolution from this home made job comes out terrible at Vista Print so I have to do the card writing on their site and give them a better resolution image which the one in the first two links is.

I have a TIFF file of a scanned microfilm page of a very old manuscript.
The background of the black fonts is gray, and it makes the reading of the text very hard.
My question is: is there a simple way to extract only the black fonts of the text, or otherwise to brighten up the background?

i have been doing HTML off and on for a few years but am really starting to get really heavy into it, as well as CSS and other tools...and have just discovered GIMP
i have an image..which happens to be my business card and to begin with, it was an .eps file, but i converted it to a .jpg...what i am wanting to figure out, and do with it is use it for my web page i am building
it has a background on it and on top of it it has my text...i am wanting to keep the text also, but my main concern is to use just the background for my website....how is extracting the back ground away from the text possible in GIMP and also saving the text as well.

I'm new to GIMP and I'd like to know how to cut out or extract an object from it's background.
There's a fest being held at my college and I've been assigned to cut out the logo from the posters of the previous year (I've attatched a copy of it below). I've tried using the cut tool, the lasso and also the foreground selection tool. The cut tool and the lasso tool didn't work as the object is quite complicated whilst the foreground selection tool happens to coat the logo instead of the background. I've tried invert and it doesn't work. Is there any other way to extract the logo?

Have to deepatch (cut out) a horse from this pic, but it's hairs are everywhere. Also, the background doesn't differ much.
Tried through channels, even quick mask pro 4.1, really run out of ideas, you tube can't help, no photoshop users that I asked can help. Can you, please?
Attached file is too small for you to see the details, don't know how to upload bigger image.

Attached is a .JPG I would like to modify. I have many drawing like this one that we would like to make into a catalogue.
I would like to make all theses doors the same image size with the a square transparent background.
I have figured out how to remove the background however when I try to adjust my image size it is still adjusting my canvas size.
What I have been trying to do is have a transparent background layer with the door image on a separate layer but I'm not having any luck.
I'm new to PS so my knowledge is limited. I'm using the CS4 extended version.

In Photofiltre, it's dead easy to extract the gray tones from an image to boost up the colours. It's often better than just increasing saturation or so.
But since I have Photoshop CS3 I'd like to do it there. It must be possible to do something like that too. But how?? I just can't find the right way?

Say I want to extract a photo of someone and put it onto another picture with all of their strands of hair intact etc - I know you are meant to extract the image in 'extract' and do the highliting and filling etc, but I find this never works. I always get left with a jagged, bitmapped edge, no matter how much I play with the tolerance thingy.
Can someone tell me a definitive way of cutting a face out, as if it were Dirk Benedict on the cover of Corvette Monthly with all of his beautiful strands of hair on show?

I have a high-res image of a model of a ship that I'm looking to put on top of a seascape image. The pictures below are a lot smaller and cropped then actual.
Here is a crop of the image of the ship, luckily it's on a plain background and nothing more complicated: After much trial and error, Fluid Mask did a decent job and I'm on the fence about saying useable:
However, this is a thought I had when scrolling through blending modes on the ship's layer. Here it is on Multiply:
Obviously it's too dark, but in terms of the edges on the small details like the ropes, it looks great. I got thinking about somehow automating Photoshop to recognize wherever a pixel is different from the background layer below it, Photoshop would be able to tell where the image is and where the background is, since Multiply removes any white but leaves other colors (albeit darker).
I don't know how this would be done if it's possible at all, I'm guessing with some sort of code made into a plugin or something.

I have an image where there is an object in the foreground that is in the shade and the background that is bright. I want to correct the foreground image. I have tried to extract the foreground image and then drag the original picture onto the extracted one. I assumed that the I could somehow have the extracted image on its own layer and adjust it. When I do that either in the extracted file (before moving the original picture back onto it) or when I try to select its layer in the resultant picture, the entire picture -- foreground and background -- all layers, seem to get adjusted. How can I isolate the extracted image / layer to be able to adjust just that image.

I seem to be having problems when I lasso round a specific part of a photo taken with a white background and then try to add that part of the image to a plain #000000 black background.
I always seem to get a white outline around the image when I place it on the black background, even when its on ZERO feathered. I don't like using feathered as it adds a smudge round the outside of the image.

At the moment - i have a special task. i have a image that has got some arrows - i want to extract the colors (that are the exact colors of all the arrows.) After this i want to draw in a new image a bunch of balls - exactly with these colors. Is this doable!?

I am attempting to create screenshots from an old video game and one part of the game includes a semi-transparent overlay layer that I would like to extract into its own image. I am able to render each layer separately in the emulator I'm using, but the screenshot tool is only able to export the final rendered image, so the transparent layer, when rendered alone, still results in a screenshot where it has been merged with the game palette's background color. I have managed to get 2 different copies of the overlay image using 2 different background colors, but I don't know the transparency percentage on the overlay. Is it possible to extract the original semi-transparent overlay with its original colors and transparency levels knowing the original background color? I can get more screenshots with different background colors if that would work. Also, the overlay only has a 5-color palette, so it's not a terribly complex image. I'm attaching the images I have with the background colors included as separate layers in each.

I used to use freehand as my defacto drawing tool until I switched to AI. Back in those days, I also used "Streamline" (URL...) to perform the functions image trace does today. While it's results were somewhat crude, the software provided me the vector points, paths and acnhors i needed. After every trace, I could manually edit the resulting vector traces.
I have been using CS6's tracing feature, but the one thing I cannot figure out for the life of me is the "Bounding box" issue for an imported image. Everytime I trace a drawing, AI's tracing results always place a bounding box around the traced image area. My goal: To trace an item, get rid of the bounding box and extract the outlines and paths so that I can then modify these to my linking.
Can this be done? Im sure it can,... I just cannot find out how. (Or am I making crack wishes?) All I'm saying, if Streamline allowed me to edit paths from a trace, then it'd be a shame if AI CS6 does not.

Well, to join the two different parts i have choosen AE software (actually is After Effects CC).Well, as i said the animation and scenario are in a different project, and i have joined both in AE. But the scenario is not always just a landscape. Sometimes is a building that the actor walks on it, so i have (in some way) to put the actor "in" the building, and if i was working with images i would easly solve that problem: select and extract to another layer what i want to be in first place, or to be the landscape. At the same logic, how can i do this in After Effects CC?Can i extract some objects by color as i can do in Photoshop?
2º For storytelling reasons, i would like that , in some moment, everything turns gray , and the actor is colored. but there's more! i would like that the actor leaves a colored path (the path that he is taking in animation). Is there any way that i can do it?
If i cant do it, i have to re-build the entire animation in Cinema4D.

This Q must be very old. Why can´t someone invent a sigle button for this I have tried all the things by the book but still when I try to lay text image with white background over an image the white is still there althoug I made it transparent. tried to sa for web as png-8, png-24 and gif. nothing works. To use magic wand gives bad result when applied to text? So what can I do? I am trying to place text over image. I know I could write it over the image but I need the text as a transparent layer some place else.
