Photoshop :: Error :: File Will Not Open Due To A Program Error
Apr 1, 2009
I have been re-saving many of my PSD files using CS3 image prosesssor with compatibility mode turned off. They have simply been saved again as PSD files into a different folder - no changes to the original PSD files. This has worked well and reduced file sizes by up to 50% (I had compatibility mode turned on previously).
of the 60 files I have processed, 3 will no longer open , I get a message that says "file will not open due to a program error."
these files have only ever been used in CS3. , they are quite large
from just under 1GB to 1.5GB, however other similar large files have processed successfully. I have re-tried without success.
I still have the original files so no data loss is involved.
I have been using CS6 for quite sometime with no much issues at all. All the sudden, today, without any changes being made in my computer (iMAC IOS 10.9) the software stopped opening files when I went FILE/OPEN and selecting the file to open (jpg). CS6 opens "finder" and then quickly the finder window disappears (so no time to make any selection,,this is not related to a type of file since...I can never get to even select one..) and the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error". The only option is to click OK and that is it.
I now need to go and open finder and then navigate through to the file and the right click and choose Open with CS6 (anf the file opens)..
Working on a client job, I created a photoshop cs6 document. Now I can't open the document anymore. Program error message.I always make different versions when working on a job. When I have to make an important change I save a new version of my work. All the previous versions won't open either.
I still have my Photoshop cs5 installed on my computer. Tried that and it worked. All the files open in cs5 but won't open in cs6.I remember taking some work home where I have cs4 running on the laptop.
I am getting a Could not open due to unexpected end of file error messages on a bunch of jpg's I am receiving via email. The files open in Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
Since upgrading to Mavericks anytime i try to open files by going to file, open it says "Could not complete your request because of a program error".. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and also tried using the cleanup tool but still getting that error. I am using an iMac 27".. Also tried resetting preferences, still no luck.
Im having problems with the adobe creative cloud. When I try to open files in photoshop I get this "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
I have Photoshop Elements 9 installed on my computer (MacBook Pro running Lion). However, I had not used it for a couple of months because I was using the CS6 beta, which finally expired. When I tried to open PSE9, the splash screen loads fine and finishes loading everything, but when it disappears I get a dialog of "Cannot open Photoshop Elements because of a program error."
This is while running on my main admin account. It opens normally on another admin account which I do not use often, except for some text encoding issues which were not present before.
When I use the quick selection tool (or when I use content-aware scaling) I get an error message saying "could not complete your request because of a program error." I am working with NEF files, 4 GB of RAM, fast machine with plenty of scratch space, Radeon X1950 crossfire graphics card. With small .jpg files, the problem doesn't occur.
I have changed from 32 bit pc to 64 bit and can't open my previous catalogue, I get an error message saying catalogue might be open and used with another program (which it isn't) or I might need permissions.......
I've gotten this a couple of times recently. Scratch is on a separate disc and large enough. This was a from a 2 x 2" document as I was trying to paste a smart object from Illustrator.
When I tried to use file browser in PS7 this morning, it opened and, instead of showing the directory tree structure that I last left it in, it only showed the desktop with the + sign to expand that folder. When I click the + sign, I get the following error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
What could have happened and how can I fix this so I can use my file browser again?
I've loaded and reinstalled photoshop elements 3 times. I can not save any files. all i get is cannot save file do to program error message' this is a brand new product with a program error and they want me to pay them to fix there problem. it ain't right.
I get it on closing the Video Studio Pro 14.1.0.107.(S.Pac 2) I initialy got it when trying Corel's trial download so went and bought the Package, retail, thinking (foolishly) that that would solve the problem. I have spent hours on line with Corel Tech who said it was a conflict with jscript.dll in Explorer 9. I reverted back to Explorer 8 but no luck. It makes no difference whether V.S has files active or not so it is not a function of source files.
As youcan see on my profile - Windows 7, Home premium; 3.2 Gig Intel Core2 Duo; 3518 MB RAM; 500 Gig HD; 1024 MB NVidia GT 440 Video card.
Running PSD 12.0.4 (Extended) on a Mac Pro, Mac OS 10.7.3. Plenty of ram; plenty of hard disk space.
I just finished installing a new 1TB drive in one of my bays; I now have (3) 1TB drives total. Initialized the new drive (Mac OS Extended/Journaled), partitioned for Lion, then installed the OS and migrated everything from my primary (boot) drive using Migration Assistant.
After finishing, PSD gives the following error on start: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". I can command+option on start, select the boot drive as scratch and set the rest to None; that configuration works (and sticks). However, if I try to set scratch volumes to either of my backup volumes, I get the same error. Additionally, Illustrator can't even see the other two volumes in the scratch disk selector (PSD sees them, but won't accept them).
Here's what I've done:
- using simple disk drive names (i.e. WD1, WD2, WD3)
- verified all drives with Disk Utility
- ran drive diagnostics on all drives using SMART Utility (no problems found)
- reset paramter ram (comand+option+p+r on Mac startup)
- repaired permissions (all volumes - no permission errors found)
Problem: Whenever I work on a file and try to save it as a psd file i get the following: "Cannot save as "C:lah.psd because the file is already in use or was left open."
Now this happens even if no file is open or I try to save the file with a different name. If i hit Ctrl+S to a psd file, it saves. If I try to save as a jpg file, it saves. But when I try to save as a psd file, then I get the above error message.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I even went back to cs2 but this problem continued to happen in cs2 as well.
I'm trying to create a digital layout in PSCS version 8.0, and when I go to save the psd file (very early stages of the creation...its not very large yet) I get an error that says "Unable to save (file name) because of a disc error". I've never seen this before and am trying not to panic, but I'm on a deadline! LOL And am running behind as usual!
I am using an older mac, and I'm pretty dang maxed out on Gb...gotta clean up some files, but having a hard time finding a free dup file finder for macs...so I'm procrastinating, basically. Could the fact that I've got very little Gb available left have something to do with this?
I was working on a psd-file this morning when suddenly an error message appeared - saying somthing of the text engine. I canceled the error message a few times, then saved the document, closed photoshop and reopend the application. Since that moment, I was not able to open the file anymore, Photoshop just stopped making anything. But I can open every other psd-file, but not this specific one. Always when I try to open the specific file Photoshop stopps doing anything.
I tried a lot of things like deleting the font cache, trying to open the file with an older photoshop version, tried to open it with ID, AI, FW, Gimp etc.
"extrusion file is bad or corrupted" error when a file is chosen, photoshop then "stops working" and windows shuts it down. I then have to restart to make another attempt.
All my MACINTOSH versions of Photoshop - S5, Elements 10, Elements 11 - display the opening start screen, but ABORT THE LAUNCH of the EDITOR with the error message:
"Could not open scratch file because of disk error."
"Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)"
I have cleaned up my external disks so that they all have at least 100GB of free space
How can I correct this so that I can recover the Preferences, re-establish the Scratch Disk, and launch the Photoshop Editor?
I have a scene which on one machine will cause error (and crash max) when trying to open it (last time I did that -2 days ago - it was OK) but on a different PC with less mwmory - it will open nicely.
Also - I tried opening backup file from the same folder - error and crash.Files from other projects open nicely as well.
I even thought about memory issues (PC is 4 months old and does not cause any problem)I tried merging it - crash..I tried merging some objects - in some cases it was OK but mostly - crash.
Again - When I opened it on a different PC - it causes no issues.
