Error Message in Premiere Elements 11 (mac) when loading .MPEG videos: “The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor / decompressor (codec) installed.” Question is, how do I determine what codec is needed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOld computer was XP with PE10 installed. Moving to new Win7 computer, so did catalog backup of PE10 onto a network drive. On new computer, have serveral Drives: C, E, G (XP drive from old computer for moving stuff over to new system). Installed PE11 on new computer to drive E. Then opened PE11 and did a catalog restore from the network drive. Set restore location to Drive E. Restore said successful, conversion worked OK. Organizer in PE11 shows the pictures and references drive G (my old XP drive that is in my new system). How do I get PE11 to change path to Drive E catalog??

I have a Canon PowerShot camer and make videos using .avi. I just bought the Premiere Elements 11. Befoer I bought the program I made sure that it said it would work with .avi files. When I try to upload an avi it says "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed".
How do I obain and install the required codec? I have already loaded up all the software that came with the camer, and that software works fine; I assume it already has the required codec. But how can I get Elements to use the codec?
When I try to add MP3 music to a slide show in PSE11, I get an error message that I am missing a codec. I have installed two codecs without any success. Wil this problem go away if I use tthe premier version?

Not in pse my videos will preview when i double click but they do so in windows media player. How do i get quicktime to work in pse? If I attempt to crop a portrait format photo e.g. 2009px x 3034px to 1920 x 2400, the crop frame for the width falls outside the photo. Cropping a landscape photo works correctly but the problem persists even if the portrait photo is rotated to 'landscape'.If I crop the same portrait photo on an XP system, there is no problem.

I have a number of files of type MTS which I understand to be AVCHD and are imported from my Panasonic Lumix TZ20 camera which captures HD video. These files will not play in the Organizer, resulting in a message stating the required Codec is missing. However, when the same file is sent to Premiere Elements for Editingand agreeing to a message to have Premiere set the correct properties for the media type it plays perfectly. What am I do wrong? Are there any settings I need to change to have Organizer also play the file successfully?
