Photoshop :: Color Overlay With Other Effects
Jun 18, 2006
when i wanna change the colour of a shape/photo etc i often use the colour overlay option becuase it lets me eye drop to the colour i want. The problem is that i cant apply effects to this picuture/shape later as the colour overlay still has priority, ie if i wanna put a texture on it it still shows the colour overlay. Is there a way to merge the layer so it takes on all effects and i can apply new ones?

I'm facing is that I need just the "Lighting Effects" filter on a transparent background to use in Final Cut. However, I know that you need to apply this effect to something. I applied it to what it is going to be overlaying in Final Cut, so I have the original image and the one with the effect. Is there any way to select the similarity between these two images and delete it so I can just have the lighting effects on a transparent background?

I thought this would be fixed with version 6 but I guess it isn't or maybe I'm still just doing it wrong. How do you apply a transition effect to just the overlay track. For instance I want to apply dissolve to an animated gif that I'm using in my overlay track but when I do it gets applied to everything and even the primary track blacks out and then dissolves back in. So frustrating. I switched over to final cut pro because of this but love the ease of use of VSP so I bought version 6 hoping this issue had been fixed.

i wanted to try it because of its flexible overlay capabilities. I have a main video on the background and i want a small overlay video to appear on top of it, but to come in with a transition. I couldn't make the transition to effect only on the overlay video, it effects the whole video (both main and overlays together). Is there a way to make it work only on the overlay video?

I want to edit a lot of videos of board and cards games for YouTube. I would like to add an overlay that displays the current score for each player. Here is an example of what I'm looking for: [URL]....I am an experienced AE / Premiere user. I know how to add and animate typography for short clips. My question is what the fastest and most efficient approach is for longer videos. The videos are up to an hour each. The scores change every minute. I don't want to be twiddling with keyframes. How to set up an efficient production workflow for this?

I love hitting backslash when I paint on a layer mask, which shows the red overlay so I can see better what I'm doing. I somehow changed the red to a color that doesn't show up well. How do I change that back to red?

Any way to use a whole color layer as a grayscale or color mask (without having to destruct it), and would save on extra layers to mimic the effect of JUST MOVING THE COLOR OVERLAY BEHIND THE COLOR INFORMATION. add a "render color layer in back", or something like that.

I generally do my dodging and burning with an overlay layer. When burning, I typically have opacity set between 10 and 15%, and pain with a black brush. The layer is an overlay layer with 50% gray fill.
THIS MAY HAVE BEEN HAPPENING WITH CS5, IN WHICH CASE I'M CRAZY, SO JUST TELL ME, BUT I DON'T RECALL EVER SEEING THIS..........
BUT, when I burn in CS6, instead of just darkening the area, it APPEARS I'm also getting a color shift. I've checked to make SURE my colors are white and black (black in this case), and I've tried changing the mode of the brush from normal to luminosity just to see if that would make a difference.

I created a simple layer shape using the elipse shape tool, and applied a color overlay (blue) layer effect to that shape. The applied color overlay doesn't fill the entire shape (see image) making it look like the shape has a very wide stroke applied to it (it doesn't). If I "copy merged" the pasted copy is a rasterized version of the problematic overlay. If I rasterize the layer, the fill then covers the entire shape.
Jpeg below. Shape is black, color overlay is blue. There is no other effect applied. Blend mode normal, opacity 100%. The image upload won't let me attach the layered PSD file.
I'm running PS CS6 under Creative Cloud.

I have a new kitcarn (picture attached) that I want to change the color of but I want to overlay a few different colors on the car first so I can get a feel for how it might look, I just don't know how to go about selecting just the body of the car as this is all I want to change... is it just a matter of creating a duplicate layer and then carefully and slowly using a select tool go around the sections that I want to color and color them in?
I don't know which color I want the car yet so would like to know how to do it myself?

Is there a way to, as in Photoshop's effects gallery, create a color-overlay on an already-done gradient in Illustrator CS 5.1? I've already done the gradient and I have my color, but can't quite make it work.

Take a look at the following site:
[URL]
For the background image halfway down, there's a totem pole sort of "merged" in with the color. But it's not simply an overlay blend mode or opacity change. It has essentially seemed to adopt an entire palette based on the background color itself.
I think I recall a way to create this effect in Photoshop, but in GIMP I'm stuck. How would one go about making that "color overlay", given any regular picture and a colored background? I'm doing this for a website, by the way.

I made a ring and I want to change the color using color balance. It's with particular, multiple copies with fast blurs applied to them to give the glow and it's all pre-composed with the particle layer. Now all I want is to change the color as a whole but color balance doesn't seem to work when applied to the pre-composed layer. I even tried color balancing the particle layer itself, made an adjustment layer and applied color balance on that.

I've been experimenting in several programs (Lightroom, Photoshop) and playing with color balance and split toning but can't get these same vintage-ish color toned effects. Especially the toning and slightly opaque effect in the shadows.

I'm in the process of prepping individual components of a design for Flash animation. I'm trying to apply a layer of #7C6844 with the color effect at 56% opacity and a layer of #999999 with the color burn effect at 12% opacity to the foreground image which has a transparent background. This task has proved to be rather impossible for me, but it seems like there should be a way to do it. I would use the wand tool > select inverse and apply the colors over top that way, but the foreground image has a lot of leaves and branches, so that method would be extremely tedious.
Is there a way I can select the entire image as a whole and leave out the background?
I'll attach the image and the desired result to further assist.

im trying to make an adjustment to one section of my footage.i followed other instructions elsewhere about making a mask on a solid and then linking the solid to a null object, which has tracking footage (i was thinking i could motion track a mask?)
so i did that, but tracking motion doesnt work, the mask moves everywhere so i went in and moved the mask points at keyframes, which was annoying. but now i can't add adjustments to the solid where the mask is. i turned the solid into an adjustment layer but adding color correction adjustments doesn't work.
i have to use after effects by the way. basically tl:dr i need to color correct one section (or the masked part) of my footage. how can i do that in AE?
also is there an easier way to motion track something that goes completely off screen or out of the comp window? cause its a handheld shot and theres like a pan, and im trying to track the mask but it doesnt really work or stay around the area it needs to.

I've been learning After Effects for several months and I have to say its a blast. I'm already in projects where they require special effects, and from months of just teaching myself.I'm almost finally able to achieve any effect I want, for example: a bomb made to implode the earth's core with a black hole (a still picture from an upcoming super hero comedy series called "Zack").
Anyways, I'm now learning more advanced color balance, I always knew the basics and I just go with what looks good (which is how it usually works), but I never quite understood. Like curves.I watch tutorials and see people use a mix of colors to get the color they want. Honestly I don't know my colors in that way, is there a chart guide for color correction?

I've created a grid of around 80 individual text layers (each layer is a single letter) and first, I want to animate their opacity as a group, then INDIVIDUALLY animate their opacity (again) and color. How do I do this?
Also, while I'm asking, I have two simpler questions:
- is there a way to animate the color of multiple layers at once so I don't have to click on each individual layer and do it manually?
- how do I achieve a "swipe" opacity effect? If this is not clear I can explain but I won't bother for now.

I have a 1-minute clip that I've been working on. The first 30s I want to playback at normal speed. Between 30 and 36s I want the playback speed to gradually increase to about double the normal playback speed. At 36s I want it to stay at double speed for a few seconds and then gradually return to realtime playback. I don't want it to suddenly go from normal speed to double speed. From what I've read this is possible with the TimeWarp effect or enabling time re-mapping. Since I don't know how to do either I decided to look up some tuts on TimeWarp. I didn't find much and when I add the TimeWarp effect to my footage layer, all the color correction I did on it disappears.
I guess I'm wondering two things:
-How do I accomplish the speeding up and slowing down that I described above?
-If I'm supposed to use Timewarp, why does it create issues with my color and how do I fix it?

Well, to join the two different parts i have choosen AE software (actually is After Effects CC).Well, as i said the animation and scenario are in a different project, and i have joined both in AE. But the scenario is not always just a landscape. Sometimes is a building that the actor walks on it, so i have (in some way) to put the actor "in" the building, and if i was working with images i would easly solve that problem: select and extract to another layer what i want to be in first place, or to be the landscape. At the same logic, how can i do this in After Effects CC?Can i extract some objects by color as i can do in Photoshop?
2º For storytelling reasons, i would like that , in some moment, everything turns gray , and the actor is colored. but there's more! i would like that the actor leaves a colored path (the path that he is taking in animation). Is there any way that i can do it?
If i cant do it, i have to re-build the entire animation in Cinema4D.

i do not know much about color spaces. But I do know that different forms of media require using different colors (RGB, CMYK, all that stuff).
wrong color space or exporting formats.
What do I need to do to get the final video that I exported to look exactly the same (in terms of color) when it's uploaded on YouTube? Strictly just the color, because I understand quality goes down when uploaded to YouTube.

I have found what I can only assume is a bug. I have a PSD file that when opened in CS5 looks as it should. When I open it in CS6 any shape with a gradient overlay displays as black. When I choose Save for Web it displays correctly in the save window, but the file displays the shapes as black in the regular Photoshop view.
