Photoshop :: Cannot Set Brush Hardness In CS6-64 / Works Ok In Concurrently Installed CS6-32
Dec 30, 2012
My platform is WIN 8-64 on a Dell XPS8500 with AMD Radeon HD 7570 graphics card and like many others I have the "flicker" problem but the work-around Advance setting of BASIC works for me. However, I now notice that I cannot set the brush hardness level. I installed the CS6-32 version concurrently and the brush works fine in that version. In CS6-64 the brush set on black will not replace white and when set on black it makes only a gray streak no matter what the hardness setting is.

In Photoshop 6, adjusting brush parameters including hardness was easy, but in Photoshop 7, I can't seem to find where these settings are. I have been through the brush palette several times and have found everything BUT basic brush parameters such as hardness and angle. I cannot imaging where they might have moved this or even if they are still accessable.

I can't use the brush tool on brushes other than the round brushes because the hardness option is grayed out. I get the no go error symbol.

In CS4, holding the ALT key down and right-click-dragging left or right decreases/increases brush size continuously on a PC. Is there a comparable way to tweak brush HARDNESS on a PC as you can on a Mac? I have tried additionally holding down the SHIFT key ala the square brackets alternative method for step-changing hardness, and have also tried all combinations of moderator keys to no avail.

As soon as I installed photoshop cs6 Myriad Pro stopped working. This sucks because its my main font choice. The flyer I was working on was built with Myriad pro and now the text layers need to be redone. I see myriad arabic but this is a major inconvenience considering all of my files need to be reformated.
I search my windows 7 font folder for meriad pro and it doesnt show up. I try to reinstall myriad pro and it says its already installed. I got the program "Font Expert" and it does show myriad pro is installed and ready to go. Illustrator CS3 does not let me use Myriad pro now either.

use i mac i7, lion 10.7.4.
It seems that, in CS6 Photoshop, I could RIGHT CLICK, and a small panel would drop down at cursor location, allowing me to change size, hardness, and roundness of the brush.
I have recently updated to 13.0.1. The technique described above no longer works, but I can't be sure that this happened after the update. I may, as often, have screwed up a preference checkbox.

I'm trying to figure out how you can adjust the exact hardness of a brush. I see that you can select a brush with a hard edge, or a fuzzy edge, but what if I'd like some middle ground?
While I'm at it, I may as well ask another question as well. I'm used to Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8, and on there you could adjust the "step" of a brush. Is there a way to do that on GIMP?
Also, is there a shape tool where you can create spheres or squares?

After upgrading from CS6 beta to CS6 release this function stopped working (on OS X Lion). The only think that happens when I use both keys (Ctrl+Alt) and move the mouse is moving the whole application/cs6 windows.

The feature where you can quickly change a brush size/ diameter by pressing Alt + hold right click (for Windows) (In Mac, control + alt + left click) is neat but is there any way to change that shortcut to a different combination? I can't find it in the shortcuts list.

I'm unable to find a brush option for using a brush to change the density of an existing density to a preset density in the same way color fil is used to fill a tone. An example of the use would be...a shadow or reflection on a 255 white background; when the brush with the color or shade is used to paint over the background, it fills only the shadow/reflection in with the preset density. Thus allowing you to have the same exact color/density for all shadows/reflections. This is how the color fill or color setting in brushes works only that doesn't change density, only color/tone.

I own a Wacom tablet and I've used it for about a year now.. and now that I mostly use my Laptop, I use the wacom tablet as a mouse pad (using the mouse that comes with it). I opened up photoshop today on my laptop and I was trying to erase some things using the brush command and it didn't work.. after an hour of panic and googleing I had the idea of using the pen.. which works.
I've deleted preferences, reset tools, and everything.. but its not working. No brush commands work (Clone, Brush, Eraser, etc.) but everything else will work.
I don't get it.. Is it something with pressure maybe?
Thats the only difference between mouse and pen.. pen adds pressure sensitivity.
I can't use the pen for pixel editing as well as I can use a mouse.

I downloaded the trial version of Lightroom 4 onto my Macbook pro and when I try to use the adjustment brush the cursor that normally turns to a brush when you hover any part of the photograph only changes at the very edges of the picture. When I move the cursor towards the center of the photo the cursor changes back to an arrow and I cannot make any adjustments. If I start an adjustment at the edge of the photo I can drag it into the center of it, but I cannot release and then do any further painting in that region. At the point where the brush icon changes the cursor becomes a small arrow that points to the edge of the frame and if I hold down the left mouse button and move to the transition line it becomes a double facing arrow, I can then drag the area I can work in to make it even smaller, but I cannot increase the area.

The spot and healing brush seems to work a little, but then leaves dark smudges or even complete dark lines. Also seems to pick up other objects in the picture as if it is copying a section of the picture. Have tried to reset, but nothing works.

Is is possible to save in multiple formats concurrently (CS4 & CS6)? Our images editors are having to "save as" .png and then again as .psd in order to complete their work. Clearly the overhead stacks up over time.

How does one implement the use of two pivot points to control movement concurrently in the X- and Y-plane?
I 've added a Link Constraint to the salmon colored component which is linked to the red cylinder pin at far left. This pin has a Path Constraint to an Arc path which is orientated left-to-right and arching up. The pin at right has a line Path Constraint that moves down and to the right. Still image 01 shows the retracted position. Still image 02 shows the animation at 50%, the Fowler hinge follows nicely the path of the left most pin quite well. Notice no movement occurs in the down direction that would be imposed by the right pin - if it worked/was set up properly.

I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).

I'm trying to draw some dashed lines in Photoshop, and to this end I've been playing around with the brush settings (Spacing etc). I'm using a square brush, and I managed to draw the dashed line as I want it, with one exception: I can't get the brush to be feathered.
Is it a general thing in Photoshop that you can't change (i.e. soften) the hardness of a square brush, as you can with that of a round brush? I doubt that Photoshop would impose such a limitation - there must be something I'm getting wrong.
I'd really appreciate some help on this. Once again, I'd like to have a soft (i.e. feathered) *square* brush, which I can use for various purposes, including the drawing of dashed lines.

I recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6 and I noticed a weird change in how brushes with 0% hardness are displayed. I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like this or if it's a problem with my settings etc.
So here is how it looks on 500%
- 0% hardness brush, Opacity 100%, black on transparent background
- Image Mode is RGB / 8bit

you can see what i mean in the following picture examples.
Selecting a brush (any 1 pixel) brush
[URL]........
shows my selection . Drawing a straight line
[URL]........
Zooming in to the line (600%) you can see i can draw a marquee through half of it ...
[URL].........
No matter what 1 single pixel brush i use this will happen... no matter which computer i use cs6 on and different copies of the installation. Anyway have any insight into this? frankly... it's somewhat limiting that i can't use the brush for stroking a shape if i need a pixel line and yet soft curves that a pencil won't get you.
