View 5 Repliesin photoshop 7, how do you mess with the Hardness of the brush? I remember in PS6 when you double clicked the brush a pallette would pop up where you could change the size, hardness, angle, roundness .... i cant seem to find the Hardness for brushes in the PS7 pallete ...
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to draw some dashed lines in Photoshop, and to this end I've been playing around with the brush settings (Spacing etc). I'm using a square brush, and I managed to draw the dashed line as I want it, with one exception: I can't get the brush to be feathered.
Is it a general thing in Photoshop that you can't change (i.e. soften) the hardness of a square brush, as you can with that of a round brush? I doubt that Photoshop would impose such a limitation - there must be something I'm getting wrong.
I'd really appreciate some help on this. Once again, I'd like to have a soft (i.e. feathered) *square* brush, which I can use for various purposes, including the drawing of dashed lines.

I can't use the brush tool on brushes other than the round brushes because the hardness option is grayed out. I get the no go error symbol.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6 and I noticed a weird change in how brushes with 0% hardness are displayed. I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like this or if it's a problem with my settings etc.
So here is how it looks on 500%
- 0% hardness brush, Opacity 100%, black on transparent background
- Image Mode is RGB / 8bit
I'm trying to figure out how you can adjust the exact hardness of a brush. I see that you can select a brush with a hard edge, or a fuzzy edge, but what if I'd like some middle ground?
While I'm at it, I may as well ask another question as well. I'm used to Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8, and on there you could adjust the "step" of a brush. Is there a way to do that on GIMP?
Also, is there a shape tool where you can create spheres or squares?
In Photoshop 6, adjusting brush parameters including hardness was easy, but in Photoshop 7, I can't seem to find where these settings are. I have been through the brush palette several times and have found everything BUT basic brush parameters such as hardness and angle. I cannot imaging where they might have moved this or even if they are still accessable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI understand there is no built-in way to adjust spacing between letters in Elements, but I would like to do that just for two words, so I am looking for a workaround. I thought it would be possible to copy out a letter, select the arrow tool and then paste it back in as a separate element but that does not seem to work. Is there a way to do this in Elements?

In CS4, holding the ALT key down and right-click-dragging left or right decreases/increases brush size continuously on a PC. Is there a comparable way to tweak brush HARDNESS on a PC as you can on a Mac? I have tried additionally holding down the SHIFT key ala the square brackets alternative method for step-changing hardness, and have also tried all combinations of moderator keys to no avail.

I have looked for a place where the settings are causing this but cannot find it. The top and bottom margins look OK.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Elements 9 and I've never had any problems with it until today. When I tried to use the Adjust Shadows feature under Adjust Lighting, the program became unresponsive. It wouldn't allow me to do anything at all. I had to exit the program using the Task Manager. I tried two more times to see if I was doing something wrong, but I followed the same process I've been using for years and each time the program would freeze.

However, I now notice that I cannot set the brush hardness level. I installed the CS6-32 version concurrently and the brush works fine in that version. In CS6-64 the brush set on black will not replace white and when set on black it makes only a gray streak no matter what the hardness setting is.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPSE doesn't show the user all the text formatting capabilities available in PhotoShop, but this script can alter the tracking (character spacing) of the text on a layer.
Here are the steps to use the script:
Open Notepad.Copy this text and paste it into Notepad:/*<javascriptresource><name>Character Tracking</name><enableinfo>true</enableinfo><menu>automate</menu><about>Adjust the kerning.</about><category>Typography</category></javascriptresource>*/var targettext = app.activeDocument.activeLayer.textItemtargettext.tracking = 30
Use "Save As" with the File Type of "All Files" to save it asCharacter tracking.jsxin the C:Program Files (x86)AdobePhotoshop Elements 10PresetsScriptsdirectory.Keep the .JSX file open in Notepad.Start PSE. You'll have a new menu item: File...Automation Tools...Character Tracking.Create a document in PSE with some text on a text layer. With a text layer selected, run the Character Tracking script. To adjust the tracking, simply switch to Notepad and change the numeric value after the equals sign, save the file and re-run it in PSE. (No need to close and re-open PSE.)
You can use negative values, too -- any number between -1000 and 10000 is OK.
For example, here's the original:
Here the tracking was set to -50:
And here the value was 300:
It works on paragraph text as well.

It seems that, in CS6 Photoshop, I could RIGHT CLICK, and a small panel would drop down at cursor location, allowing me to change size, hardness, and roundness of the brush.
I have recently updated to 13.0.1. The technique described above no longer works, but I can't be sure that this happened after the update. I may, as often, have screwed up a preference checkbox.
I'm trying to adjust brightness/contrast and saturation over about 30 layers on an animated GIF. Everything looks great until I do a save for web and click on the animate box. At that point, the color/changes drop off completely. It shows up fine when it's just the one layer being shown. And it seems to be showing up on all the layers when I'm in the main edit window. I keep looking and making sure I have the 'this adjustment affects all layers below,' and I do. I even tried saving a GIF with the other setting turned on and I got the same thing.
Anyway, I exported a few GIFs, thinking maybe the adjustment layers would kick in as it saved, but nope. Neither layer saved into the exported GIF.
I'm sure this is just a simple setting I'm missing, but I'm banging my head against the desk at this point.
I've successfully merged a sequence of photos taken along the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake using the Photoshop Elements 11 Photomerge Panorama facility. Alignment is perfect but the sky has gone wrong at one or two boundaries.
The sky is there in both the adjoining photos and I'm sure I could do a better job than Elements if I could adjust the mask boundaries and get rid of the existing smudged area, but I can't find out how to do that.
Can I adjust the displayed size of items in the toolbox/toolbar? (program=elements9/OS=Win7) Changing screen res doesn't work.
