Photoshop :: CS6 PSD Losing Layers
Jul 13, 2012
My Photoshop CS6 PSDs are getting flattened if opened by any previous versions of Photoshop, despite not being saved just opened. When I open the original in CS6 again, all layers are merged. Where there were 12 layers, there is now one. This is causing loads of problems.

So I have been trying to learn to be as non destructive as possible..one problem I've recently had is that when I try to merge layers, I will lose the mask that was on one of the layers.

I'm trying to save a file that looks great in Photoshop and preserve it as a PNG. I'll create the image, simply "merge layers" and lose the transparency of it. How do I get my PNG to look like it does in photoshop.
The red background show through in photoshop originally...but then after "merge layers" or saving the PNG every way possible (or so I think)... the degree of transparency isn't preserved.Below looks great. (red bleeds through nicely, good transparency)
Now doesn't look so good. (all i did was merge layers and red doesn't bleed through properly anymore, same result when saving as png)

If CC is a TRIAL program, why would you allow it to blow away layers and groupings when the doc is reopened in CS6? No I have to resinstall CC, open the doc, save it back down to CS6, and PRAY that the layers and groupings are intact. What a waste of my time.

How can I back save illustrator files created in CC (CS7 version???) to CS6 without losing layers? when I open the files in CS6 it says "some info will be lost' Ha! all layers and separation is lost, so cannot separate parts whole file seems grouped and cannot be separated? When I go back to my (other) computer where I was foolish enough to upgrade to CC, way to save back as I can with InDesign and saving as a idml file.

I am losing functions in nearly every menu in photoshop. I have tried v.8 and v.10 with the same results... I have no access to nearly every effect menu, the select menu is almost as worthless and I can't do anything on it anymore. The only way to make the function useable is to open an old file that was made back when it was working. I tried reinstalling, after that didn't work it forced me to use a company version of CS3, which has the same problem.
Does anyone know what may be going on? I don't understand what file in my computer may be doing this... If anyone has had any similar problems, please post without hesitation. This is the second photoshop forum I tried, I hope photoshop team can help .
Here are two screenshots of what the effects menu looks like; sorry about the size, I have huge resolution and didn't think about reducing the image size:
I am running windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and I am mainly trying to fix Photoshop v.8, but fixing this one will evidently fix v.10 as well.

I have same shortcut file for several years. The pattern is recent shortcut, always seem to disappear. They stick for a bit, between many lauchnes and quits of CS3, but then need to be re-added. I've done the delete preferences trick, I'm out of ideas.

I'm trying to break up sections of my website design, but when I copy and paste the various sections their edges become somewhat transparent.
Those edges shouldn't be soft because this is part of a larger solid image.

I am losing my levels adjustment when converting from PSD to any other format here is the list of it...
levels layer...........taking the contrast way up
saturation layer....saturation up
invert function
find edges layer
duplicate layer
background layer
At the point that I convert to jpg or another file type I lose the levels adjustment. Also flatten image or merge visible layers causes the same problem. I can supply a file if needed.

I frequently create multiple paths on a single layer with the intention of applying a stroke to each of them at the same time. I typically lay out the paths roughly and then go in with the Direct Select tool to refine them before applying the stroke.
In previous versions, once I'd made the last adjustment I would click off the subpath I'd been editing and then right-click and choose Stroke Path, thereby applying the stroke to each of the paths. (If I don't deselect the last sub-path I was working on, the only option I get on right-click is to stroke that sub-path.)
In CC, once I click in a blank area to deselect the sub-path it also deselects the Layer (removes the highlight from the Layer in the Layer Panel), so most of my right-click options are greyed out. I have to move back over to the Layer Panel and reselect the Layer I want to apply the strokes on.
It's possible that my old approach is bad and I should feel bad, and this added step of having to re-highlight the Layer in the Layer Panel is the bestest thing ever, but I'd kind of like to be able to avoid that additional step. That is, I'm assuming that this is somehow a feature and not a bug.
If there's no way around having to reselect the Layer after deselecting the sub-path (or after clicking on a blank area with the Direct Select tool in general), in the alternative, is there at least a quick way to select all of the sub-paths at once without losing Layer focus?

I'm using Photoshop CS3 on Windows XP.
I'm fairly new to this and I'm trying to figure out how to resize and crop a high res photo without it going a bit blurry ... The image is 18cm x 22cm and is 300 dpi. I need to resize the width to 16cm and them crop 5cm off the bottom so that it fits nicely in the space where it's to go. I seem to lose clarity when I do this and I'd like to keep it crisp of course.

I am trying to provide an image to an ad company for printing. When I change the color mode from RGB to CMYK, I lose the beautiful intense blue of the sky. I have tried to get this intensity back through photo filters, curves, levels, saturation, variations, color balance, selective color, and the channel mixer to no avail. Can anyone give me some tips on this? (I freely admit that my solution will probably be found in some combination of the above!)
I am using PS CS2 on WXP xp2.

I'm trying to use the export>render video feature in Photoshop CS5 extended. I must use avi without any compression, keeping the original frame rate (the original file is also an uncompressed avi). My impression was that this setting keeps the original video quality.
However, the exported video loses quite a bit of its original quality. Is it possible to keep the original quality?

5616x3774 / 72 res is what CS5 says my Canon 5d2 large jpeg is out of camera.
Can I use the crop too to make a 20"x24" image and keep all those or most of those pixels?
Do I leave the resolution box blank?
The lab I send the file to for the print, says they want 300 res files.

when I wanted to flip an object and it lost its shape that I could do something like go under Path and Convert to Object or something to that affect (I took Inkscape off my pc to make room or I would go check).
I made a Fork at an angle which I've decided I don't like (it took me forever to get it just right), and when I change its placement it looks quite odd and loses its proper perspective/shape.

I am trying to copy and paste text in Photoshop CS6 and I am losing the oh-so-valuable formatting. I am referring to two boxes side by side in Photoshop that contain text.
I love the text in the first box, but when I try to duplicate the formatting in the second box right next to it, the text looks completely different. And, when I try to just paste some of the text from the first box to the second box, the 20 px text suddenly becomes 96.3 px text.
Even though I go through all of the formatting options available and duplicate what was in the first box, the text in the second box ends up looking nothing like the first box even though they contain exactly the same formatting, font type - everything.

I've been having a strange problem with my mouse in PS CS4, running in Vista 64 Ultimate.
About 20% of the time that I'm clicking in an open image, PS decides that the cursor should be somewhere else on the screen. This doesn't affect any UI elements (like clicking in a tool or dialogue box), just working in an image. PS will randomly put the cursor several hundred pixels away when I left-click in the image window.
Everything else seems fine up until the point that I click - brush cursors show up in the right place, and if I'm in healing brush or clone stamp, for example, the preview image shows up in the right place --- until I click.
Sometimes, PS will drag from a point many hundreds of pixels away in a straight line near where my mouse actually is.
As this is affecting about 1/5 of my clicks, this makes PS all but unusable. I don't have any mouse or tablet management software installed. Any thoughts? Anybody else run into this? I do have current drivers for my video card, FWIW.

I'm having some trouble when uploading photos to my company's website, they look fine when editing and then when they are saved to my computer. However, after uploading to our website it looks like they lose resolution quality in areas where colors are changing.
The first image here is the image from my computer, the second is from the website after being uploaded. In the areas between the red jersey material and the white numbering/lettering it just looks strange. Is there something I am not doing right while editing the image, or is the problem most likely in our upload process?

I have a texture layer in my bevel emboss layer effects applied to a layer. Im trying to flatten the file to get it ready to go to printer and each time I go to flatten, the effect changes and darkens the entire image. I've tried merging the layers, flattening, adding a blank layer and merging down, etc.
Out of options and frustrated. Can someone please tell me how to flatten without losing the texture effect and destroying the integrity of the art?

I'm wanting to resize an image from 485x391 to 100x81, but when I try to do that, the image quality is completely degraded and it goes blurry where the finer details are.
