I have created a custom measurement tool to measure distances (captured from sattelite imagery, and using the distance key as the guide) and it works great. However, I would like to be able to use the same tool to measure curves/radiuses. Say for instance a mountain road. I know the scale of the photo, and can measure any straight (line) angle, but can I do the same for a curve or radius using the same scale?
I was under the impression that the rulers across the top and bottom of the canvas were measuring the length and width of the window at the given resolution.
However, this can't be the case, because I notice that when I crop a photo down from a width of 70 to a width of 20 on the ruler, when the crop finishes, the width of the canvas is back to looking like 70, so the ruler is not absolute, but some kind of relative measure? And is there a way to get an absolute ruler either of any unit?
In some of the Photoshop "Extended" versions, there was a function in which one could apply a known measurment to an image and then determine other dimensions in the image. For example, if one were designing a sign for a building and shot a picture of the building with a known 5' doorway, one could use the measure tool (or whatever it was called in that function) to tell Photoshop that the doorway was 5'-0" wide.
From there, after you laid in the sign design, and used the measure tool on the sign image, Photoshop would tell you the dimensions of the sign based on the scale you set with the doorway. Now for the big question: One, does that function still exist, and two, if so, where do you find it?
in Photoshop Extended (CS6), when I set a custom measurement scale and save/close the file, the scale information is not retained after the file is reopenend. I have experimented with both .psd and .tif files. I used to be able to do this in CS3 without any trouble!
According to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book, there's a ruler tool hidden behind the Eyedropper tool. All I see are the Eyedropper tool, the Color sampler tool, and the Count tool.
I use the ruler tool a lot and hate the way it keeps reverting to the eye-dropper tool in the toolbar all the time! Is there a way to stop this from happening? If you use the ruler tool, then some other tools all seems okay until you save the image - at that point the ruler is replaced with the default eye-dropper tool. Therefore if you want to use it again you have to select it again which is a pain. Most tools seem to stay as they are when saving except the ruler. This was the same in CS3 by the way. I was hoping this might have been fixed in CS4. I'm using CS4ext in Vista Business.

I need to show specific ratios on the image, e.g., this distance is to this as that is to that. A measuring tool that works in pixels is pretty cumbersome. IS it possible to re-calibrate the ruler tool to measure in millimeters, centimeters, etc.? Pixels don't really make it for me. It seems like an obvious choice, but I can't figure out how to do it.
The problem with the ruler tool is that when I select another tool the former DOES not stay visible. something I need. Â For example, I make a measurement with the ruler tool, then select the move tool and the mesurement made dissapears from the document
I like the features built into the crop tool since CS6, but I have one major issue which I can’t seem to find any comment or resolution on. Basically, if I rotate an image using the crop tool, I find horizontal and vertical lines tend to be jagged, as if very rough anti-aliasing had been applied.  If I rotate the same image using the ruler tool, vertical and horizontal lines appear smooth and correct. They actually appear straight, not jagged.The result is I have to leave the crop tool, jump into the ruler tool, make my rotation (which is nearly always bringing a vertical or horizontal back to true), then back to the crop tool.   It first appeared in CS6, and now I’m using CC it’s just the same. Is there a fix, am I doing something wrong?
When I am trying to straighten an image with the ruler tool, I keep receiving the following error: Â Error 8800: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop.
- The command "Set" is not currently available.Line: 254->Â app.activeDocument.activeLayer.isBackgroundLayer = false; Â I don't understand why this isn't working because I have used this feature before.
One of my students was using the Ruler tool to straighten an image. Her image kept flipping way off the canvas to one side, even though we checked to make sure her reference point for rotation was in the middle of the image (it was). Â I can't duplicate the mistake or find any other complaints about/reference to it .
How does one change the measurement units?...or does one want to? What is the relationship between the measurement tool and the actual printout?Â
I draw a box, I measure the box and it tells me its 37.886 (what r the units?) I do a printout at 1:1 on an 8.5x11 landscape and nothing matches.....?Â
I know we all love the measure tool, but if you want to stroke with it what you are measuring in a certain angle you can't do it. At least nothing that I know of. How do you trace your angles with measurement (whether degrees or radians)?
The measure tool is not giving me the correct measurement. For example, I offset a line 24' and when I go to double check the distance it is off by .03. That is starting on the original line and doing a perpendicular snap to the other line. So I thought, wait a minute that can't be right, so I drew a line between the two lines and did an inquiry and it gave me 24'.
I also did a dimension which also was correct. I also measured a 97' line and it was off by 3 feet. Never had issues with previous versions of Autocad as far as measuring.
I really did search on this. All I found elsewhere was a very complicated custom batch file tweak-install. Does this mean that this program can only install everything that comes with it? I am considering an upgrade but do not want to install each and every sub-product that comes with extended.
I was using this nice tool for the forth time or so and I accidentally put the radius to 10, and suddenly these horrid jagged edges on model shirts disappeard.
The feather was at 2, and smoothness at 12. (in refine edges)
So should I now think of the radius and the the best method for edges rather than feather.
I have a question about the pen tool in Photoshop, I would like to make drawings as a simple colored dividing curves I found no simple way to achieve this, first found solution is to trace with Tool pen the desired shape (open form), then using the Layout panel, apply a color on edge, the problem with this method is that if you change the shape of the trace thereafter, the initial color persists mena sdoesn't move withe resized trace and it's embarrassing. the second found solution is to use a vector layer, but the problem is that traces are always closed(means closed shaps only) and the colored outline is applied on all around the shape , it works well with the closed form but not with the simple forms.
how to draw a single line or an open colored curve with photoshop.
I'm trying to access the ruler tool in elements 9. I got to the eyedropper icon, point at it, click and hold, but the window with the options does not open. Is there another way to access this tool?Â
I am trying to darken/sharpen a .PDF scan of an old blueprint drawing using the Curves tool, but the drawing only appears edited in the preview screen and reverts back to its original appearance once I hit OK. What do I need to do to get the changes to stay?
I'am using illustrator CC but while using the star tool, instead of being drawn while being dragged by the tip or the outer radius, my star is getting dragged from the inner radius. The problem does not occur when dragging while holding the alt key.
