Using "Align Layers..." is a function I use daily. Many, many times. Yesterday, using this normal function began locking up my Photoshop session. I have 1.5GB+ of scratch disk available. I'm using the same procedures I've always used. I've reinstalled Photoshop CS6. I'm into work around mode, since I have lots of work to do, but I'd love to get this process back on track so I can get back to a normal workflow.
View 3 RepliesIt seems once you enter a custom name for a text layer in the Layer palettes, it breaks the connection between the text content and the layer name.
Is there any way to get a text layer's name to be the same as the content of the text layer? (In After Effects, if you clear out a custom name of a layer, it will automatically rename a text layer to what the text contains.)
the locking system of layers in CS6 is a bit different. I created a folder, dropped a layer in there w/ a graphic. Duplicated the layer, and then began using the arrow keys to make the separation so I can move it around to a different location. Both layers are moving together. They are not linked. So I tried locking one, but the 'freed' layer won't move at all now: Could not use the move tool because linked layers are locked.
The application is automatically linking layers that are within the same folder. how do I keep them separated? There is no option to unlink...another flaw w/ CS6. Linked layers is grayed out.
I am trying to make a background or an overlay of this pattern i created. i want to drop the opacity on all of it and be able to edit all of the parts of the image with one action, instead of all of the layers seperately.
all of the graphics are seperate layers on their own. i took and created new layers out of one another, from an original. so i have like 15 or so of them. is there a way to lock/join/merge them together into one, single editable layer?
i want to drag it onto another image and make them translucent. i can link them (with the little chain symbol on my layers window) and drag them all, but then if i try to do any editing, it will only do one at a time.
I have a image that displays the following....
This template has been shrunk down to
300 DPI for file size reduction, it is actually
1200 DPI. To size it back up to 1200 DPI,
Lock all of these layers and then open up
a new 1200DPI file (width 3.4,height 2.2)
and drag these locked layers to that file,
then hit Ctrl+T then hold Ctrl+S and resize
the template. The template will look and
print much clearer after its re-sized.

've been having this annoying problem with CS6 where every now and then no matter what I click, nothing would happen. I try clicking tools, layers, brushing something on the canvas and nothing happens. Even when I try to close the window i am using nothing happens. When I roll over the X the colors light up and everything but nothing happens (same when I roll over tools and swatches).
Can't close or minimize anything. I've noticed it happening more often when I work on big files over 80mb. The only thing I can do is use shortcut keys to save whatever I have, quit photoshop and reopen again. Sometimes I have to reopen more than once. It also happens a lot when I minimize PS and browse the web for a bit and come back. It's so annoying, and I worry that one day I won't even be able to use shortcut keys or access the top menus.
I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks. I recently updated to Mavericks, but even with the OS I had before that (10.7) I still had this same problem.
How can I change size of the content center part in an assembly based on parameters using iLogic.
There is also the possibility that I would need to replace from content center. I have been unsuccessful in adapting previous examples to work as I need. attached is an example of a part I am tryig to change with parameters and the start of some iLogic. I am using inventor 2012.

I’m wondering if there is a technique that allows locking the “state” of layers (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport mode such that the viewport will keeps its required state REGARDLESS THEIR STATE IN THE MODEL MODE!
For example, in the screenshot below, freezing the point in the model mode will also freeze them in the viewport! And thus the layer state are not kept as required in the viewport which adds more efforts.
One possible option is saving the layer state! But this feature is not a property for the viewport but needs to be selected from the layers option. And thus we need again to think about layers that are supposed to be turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc. in a particular viewport.
What I need here is to LOCK the viewport not only in terms of scale but also regarding the state of layers!
I am having trouble with PS aligning layers in a PSD file. Clicking any of the alignment buttons does nothing. I had this problem with another cheaper image software that ended up being an issue with memory. I had to keep rebooting. But rebooting does nothing this time.
The computer I am using has 4gb of memory.
What the require setting to enable me to lock of several layer continuously when i click the "LAYER OFF" button at the toolbar? I wish to set to be like whenever i use the "LAYER OFF" command, i can direct just continue to click several layers for it to be turn off.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe files I am creating in photoshop are all coming out very pixelated lately. Especially after I flatten the image or export it to a pdf. This is true even for text layers, eps files I placed, and vector-based objects I drew. The photo layers are pixelated too, even though they were hi-res to begin with and I only made them smaller when I added them to my document. Why everything is so pixelated? I tried changing the file from 72 to 300 pixels/inch, but that didn't clarify the images. It just smoothed the edges a bit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf I have 2 layers at 50% opacity and a white layer underneath, those combined layers should equal 100% opacity and so I should not be able to see anything below the lower layer. Instead what I find is that you have to stack over 15 layers at 50% before they even start to appear opaque (and at 15 they still aren't).
What's the math going on behind here? I would have assumed that, with an 8-bit image, you have 256 levels of transparency so at 50% you've got both layers at 128; 128-128 = 0 or no transparency so why does photoshop still allow something to be visible underneath that? While we're at it, why does 100% look fully opaque but 99% looks dramatically different without a layer underneath? Maybe the math is adding up but 50% opacity is actually more like 5% opaque?
Is there a blending mode I can use that will similate the build up of opacity more accurately? I'm really annoyed with the fact I can't really predict how layers are going to interact based on their opacity; I wish I at least understood the science behind it so I could alter my process to produce the results I want.
I have two photos that were taken at two different times during the day. Now the problem is, that these two photos do not equal 100% in their angle and therefore perspective. I wanted to know if there is a way to let photoshop put them on top of each other like it would do when creating a HDR, just without actually creating the HDR but do the "deghosting" and ideally also a geometric correction?

View 4 Replies View Relatedupgrading to Photoshop CS3 (previously used CS1). There are a lot quirks between the two but the one that is absolutely infuriating me is something that was once so very very simple and that is aligning one layer object to another.
All I am looking to do is left align layer 2 with layer 1, but it just won't let me do it? It is almost like when I do it they meet halfway? I'm not talking about anything with opaque edges or anything, simple strokes and boxes. It just doesnt want to happen.
Sometimes I will put a few layers in a folder and align it against another folder and the same thing happens...there isn't any precision what-so-ever? It is also hard to figure out which layer I need to click to align another to...or so it seems it has just thrown me for a loop that I don;t know anymore!
What is worse is with a very large document, even if I manually nudge a group of layers (using the arrow keys or dragging with the mouse) I get the spinning beachball of death and once returning things to normal...nothing has moved?
I mean it makes me feel like a complete Newbie...is there a setting somewhere that is causing this erratic behaviour?

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat I mean is that say you have layers I and I that are positioned next to each other so they look like "II". You want to center them in relation to some selected space so that they still look like "II" and not "I".
Do you see what I'm saying?
Is there a way to center them so that they're still in the same configuration relative to each other instead of centering them so that they both get layered on top of each other in the centering? Maybe by linking them or some other way?

For example, is there a way to use GIMP features to edit an Adobe Illustrator editable map by importing an excel document containing two columns: one column containing the names of the defined layers and another column containing the color value in hex code. Based on this document, could I use GIMP to easily apply the colors to the layers?

It would be extremely painstaking if I had to take each and every line and place it on a different layer. Illustrator cs6 - I have used image trace to create a 3 colour image of a photograph. Is there a way to create layers based on the three colours? (One layer for each of the three colours)
View 2 Replies View RelatedOccasionally paragraph allignment works opposite for left & right align, usually on Illustrator documents with Russian type.
In additon on center align text I set my cursor to input a period at the end of a sentence, and the period instead gets added to the beginning.
In character palette language is set to English USA, this is point text.
I created a new point text and this is happening, if I paste text from another document alignment works fine, font is Arial black but happens with all fonts.
