It seems once you enter a custom name for a text layer in the Layer palettes, it breaks the connection between the text content and the layer name.

Is there any way to get a text layer's name to be the same as the content of the text layer? (In After Effects, if you clear out a custom name of a layer, it will automatically rename a text layer to what the text contains.)
I want to disable the auto renaming feature in text layers so that I can change the content without change the name of the text layer. Also i want to do this to all the text in one step, without do it manual one by one.

for more description, i am working on replace English text with other language but i want to keep English name of all text layers SO i want to disable auto renaming while replacing the content.
When you create a text layer, it automatically names the layer whatever you type. If you go and rename the layer, it keeps that name regardless of what you type on your document.
What I want to do is revert the layer back to doing it's auto naming thing. Is there any way to doa that?
I can't just do "undo". Its an old document. I know I can copy the text into a new text layer and it will name it the way I want to, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to.
Using "Align Layers..." is a function I use daily. Many, many times. Yesterday, using this normal function began locking up my Photoshop session. I have 1.5GB+ of scratch disk available. I'm using the same procedures I've always used. I've reinstalled Photoshop CS6. I'm into work around mode, since I have lots of work to do, but I'd love to get this process back on track so I can get back to a normal workflow.

Say I have 2 items, one is on layer "M-Duct" and the other on "M-Pipe" (they are in the same drawing). Any lisp routine that would create the layers "M-Duct-New" and "M-Pipe-New" (based on the same color and LT as the original layers) and then move those objects to the newly created layers?

I need the script to change all 3 layers lineweight  to .015mm. I have drawings that are inconsistant with layer names so layer translator and methods of that nature will not work because I do not know all the layer names and I have 100 drawings to do this to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an image with 8 layers and i want to draw lines. So I make a new layer. While this layer is selected, i select the line tool and draw a line. Then, as I want to move this line, I select the move tool and try to move it. But instead of moving the line I just drew, photoshop automatically switches to my background layer (although i'm not sure it's defined as "background layer") and moves the entire content of the layer.
To see what actually happened, i hid each layer in the layer palette... And still... here was my line. (with all layers hidden, is it POSSIBLE to have anything?)
I tried to select my line and then, using the move tool, move it, but the message "could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"...
I had a black and white layer with circles drawn to represent droplets of water, and I want to be able to move it, add to it, etc. How can I make it liquify the background underneath based on that droplet layer?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to finally utilize iLogic and all of its functionality (after using the basic features of inventor for the past 3 or so years) and I was wondering if there was a way to use iLogic (or some other feature for inventor) to resize text in a title block field of an IDW based on the length of the text entered (i.e. if the part's name was "Cam Retainer" the text height would be .12, but if its part name was "Spacer Cam Retainer Bushing" the text height would shrink down to .085 or something) so that it would still fit nicely into the text block? Â

View 2 Replies View Relatedi switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.

So when I chose transform, the edge marks/lines are way off the layer screen. I need to drag these layers to a new PS file of the same size and I dont want to bring over the entire huge image layer. I have been asked to produce a large text based image to be printed on a gym floor with a size of approx. 2m squared. I am using a Collegiate style font and then rasterising the text to allow different coloured parts and blending the letters in to each other. I have produced the image in small scale, but now need to redo the image suitable for printing at such a large size. I know I will have to start again from scratch but am concerned that it may be pixelated at such a large size.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are using photoshop CS5 12.0.2 and OS X 10.6.8 and have run in to a serious problem. When we do a save as the file seems to delete the contents of some layers in the newly created image. The layer itself is still present but completely empty.Â
We haven't closed down the original file as we are worried it will delete the layer contents in the only file which is currently complete. It has already done this to other files which are now useless and we will have to start again. Flattening seems to delete the contents of the layer as well.
I have a photo open and click on the "Create new fill or adjustments layer" button at the bottom of the Layers panel.
In CS3 I able to create a layer (say Levels) and apply it, then select the eraser tool and delete sections of that adjustment layer that I did not want revealing an unaltered section of the original photo behind it.
I can not seem to do this in CS4. I can add the layer and select the eraser tool but it will not delete anything.
I am trying to create an object on a new layer and fill it using the paint bucket tool and am getting the following message:
Could not use the paint bucket because the content of the layer is not directly editable.
I'm trying to learn Gimp so I can use the art I made with it in my games later on but as a formal Photoshop user I feel like that I have a hard learning curve.
I'm trying to move things on my layer without effecting the layer boundaries (just like the way move tool works in Photoshop).
I know that this is possible using selecting the part I want to move on my layer, then holding Ctrl+Alt and dragging with my mouse, then it creates a floating layer what I have to convert to layer in the layers panel.
I am actually an Encore user who uses Photoshop only for the menu. I am not experience with Photoshop.

A button in Encore menu is made up with a few layers. Example here can be a box and a text label below. These are 2 different layers in Photoshop, grouped together.

I'd like to aling the text label the to box. Normally the box is wider than the label. So a simple arrangement is center the text label according to the text width and box width. Right now, I have to manually adjust it by choosing both and align "center". Is there any way to automatically center the text label?
My problem: Because I deal with a lot of layers and groups I always strive to find some easier way to manage them and one of the things I always struggle with is getting everything in one group to stay a certain width or height, especially text.
Desired Solution: I combine each section, such as all the elements for the left column, in its own group and label it accordingly (A life saver when trying to find and edit something ). Then when I add an element to a group I would like the predefined width restriction applied to it so that no content can extend outside that area even if I take my text tool and select the entire document.
Is there any way to do this? Right now I'm stuck with using vibrant group backgrounds with the desired width or height as a guide. This isn't too bad a solution but can sometimes be time consuming, especially if there's a lot of content. If this is possible is there also some way to apply a padding to it?
since Photoshop CS5 (Mac), there is always shown a grey bounding box around the content of the selected layer, when I move it. For CS5 there exists a plugin, that removes this terrible box, but it doesn't work anymore with CS6.
View 12 Replies View RelatedWe just bought new Macbook Pro laptops last Friday and also got Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Illustrator CC. Everything works pretty fine, except moving layer content eg. images or fonts around is a bit behind, slow/laggy, without any apparent reason.

This happens despite external screen connected or not. It also happens with or without power adapter connected. We have brand new Mac OS Mavericks and 16GB RAM so performance should not be a problem.

how would I go about applying content aware scaling to a video layer inside PS? Basically I'm trying to use this feature to fake an aspect ratio change where by I have a subject surrounded by a relatively uniform background and I would like to be able to create a protection mask as an alpha layer and have photoshop apply the content aware scaling only to the background(to fill in the empty parts of the rescaled video) and leave the subject untouched.

What I've done is opened a video in photoshop as a layer, created an alpha channel to represent the subject(subject is white, background is black on the created alpha channel), changed the canvas size to the new aspect ratio which obviously created a tranparent frame around the original video frame. I then tried to apply content aware scaling to the video, it converted the layer to a smart object then displayed the free transform handles. However, when I selected my alpha channel as the protection area, the content aware scaling seemed to ignore it and went on to distort the entire frame. Now I tried this with still frame from the same video with the same mask/alpha channel and it worked as expected just didn't seem to do it with video.

The idea, if it would be possible to do this in PS, is to rotoscope the subject roughly in AE and generate a matte pass which can then be used as the accompanying alpha layer of the video so then the content aware scaling can be applied to each invidividual frame.
As you can see from this screenshot I am trying to use the brush tool to complete the shadow of my planet however if I select the planet the brush tool I'm using does not cover up the atmospheric glow. I am not sure how to select the glow effect independantly of the planet. If I do not have the planet selected then the shadow is applied to all the layers including the starfield layer even though it is completely locked which is very annoying in of itself. So I guess my question is how do I get the shadow to be applied to the planet and its atmosphere but not the background stars. I am using a 3600px brush with 0 hardness for the shadow. System: CS6 on Mac OS 10.8.4
