Is there a way of locking a layer and have it fixed to the very top level of the layers no matter what other images, text etc are added?
Basically I have 2 lines that act as borders and i need these to remain ontop of whatever images i add sort of like a mask.

I scan images to go into my website on a regular basis. I scan them bring them into photoshop, use the marquise tool to move individual images to be corrected and made ready to put in website, then I save them and delete that layer from photoshop. I then go to the next image and when I use the marquise tool the previous image keeps coming on the screen.
I am unable to delete permanently that first image so I can move on to the next image. Then I ran into the problem of not being able to more an image from the clipboard. It isn't highlighted so I can click it. Don't know what to do and I have to resolve this ASAP to keep up with my work.
the locking system of layers in CS6 is a bit different. I created a folder, dropped a layer in there w/ a graphic. Duplicated the layer, and then began using the arrow keys to make the separation so I can move it around to a different location. Both layers are moving together. They are not linked. So I tried locking one, but the 'freed' layer won't move at all now: Could not use the move tool because linked layers are locked.
The application is automatically linking layers that are within the same folder. how do I keep them separated? There is no option to unlink...another flaw w/ CS6. Linked layers is grayed out.
I am trying to make a background or an overlay of this pattern i created. i want to drop the opacity on all of it and be able to edit all of the parts of the image with one action, instead of all of the layers seperately.
all of the graphics are seperate layers on their own. i took and created new layers out of one another, from an original. so i have like 15 or so of them. is there a way to lock/join/merge them together into one, single editable layer?
i want to drag it onto another image and make them translucent. i can link them (with the little chain symbol on my layers window) and drag them all, but then if i try to do any editing, it will only do one at a time.
I have a image that displays the following....
This template has been shrunk down to
300 DPI for file size reduction, it is actually
1200 DPI. To size it back up to 1200 DPI,
Lock all of these layers and then open up
a new 1200DPI file (width 3.4,height 2.2)
and drag these locked layers to that file,
then hit Ctrl+T then hold Ctrl+S and resize
the template. The template will look and
print much clearer after its re-sized.
I have a mac and photoshop cs3
I work on lots of images and sometimes when I get them they new feature 'layer filtering' is set to on, and sometimes it's off. I want it to always be off but can't find out if that's possible. I continually have to disable it manually when it hides layers I need and it's getting frustrating.

When I add a pattern I have no problems, but if I want to rotate the layer that has the pattern overlay on it the image rotates, but the pattern overlay does not thus messing up the rotated image.. How can I get the pattern to rotate with the layer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing "Align Layers..." is a function I use daily. Many, many times. Yesterday, using this normal function began locking up my Photoshop session. I have 1.5GB+ of scratch disk available. I'm using the same procedures I've always used. I've reinstalled Photoshop CS6. I'm into work around mode, since I have lots of work to do, but I'd love to get this process back on track so I can get back to a normal workflow.

View 2 Replies View Related've been having this annoying problem with CS6 where every now and then no matter what I click, nothing would happen. I try clicking tools, layers, brushing something on the canvas and nothing happens. Even when I try to close the window i am using nothing happens. When I roll over the X the colors light up and everything but nothing happens (same when I roll over tools and swatches).
Can't close or minimize anything. I've noticed it happening more often when I work on big files over 80mb. The only thing I can do is use shortcut keys to save whatever I have, quit photoshop and reopen again. Sometimes I have to reopen more than once. It also happens a lot when I minimize PS and browse the web for a bit and come back. It's so annoying, and I worry that one day I won't even be able to use shortcut keys or access the top menus.
I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks. I recently updated to Mavericks, but even with the OS I had before that (10.7) I still had this same problem.
Is there a way to permanently delete a color from the layer options? Let me explain. When you open Illustrator or add layers the program seems to randomly select an "edge" color. So when you click on an object the outline is highlighted in that randomly selected color. Now I know that you can double click on the layer and get the layer options pallet and then select what ever color you want. But I have been using AI for over a decade and the straw has finally broke the camels back. If yellow shows up one more time….
I see I can make my own colors but can I delete yellow and half the other colors, from the pallet, for ever?
“Locking” the layers state (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport,
I’m wondering if there is a technique that allows locking the “state” of layers (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport mode such that the viewport will keeps its required state REGARDLESS THEIR STATE IN THE MODEL MODE!
For example, in the screenshot below, freezing the point in the model mode will also freeze them in the viewport! And thus the layer state are not kept as required in the viewport which adds more efforts.
One possible option is saving the layer state! But this feature is not a property for the viewport but needs to be selected from the layers option. And thus we need again to think about layers that are supposed to be turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc. in a particular viewport.
What I need here is to LOCK the viewport not only in terms of scale but also regarding the state of layers!
What the require setting to enable me to lock of several layer continuously when i click the "LAYER OFF" button at the toolbar? I wish to set to be like whenever i use the "LAYER OFF" command, i can direct just continue to click several layers for it to be turn off.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my computer is the only one in my office that is doing this. Whenever something is put on the def points layer I am unable to select it afterwards.
Such things have been:
1) The viewport in paperspace. The view cannot be resized but I can still click inside the viewport and work without problem.
2) Any line, block, etc made or put on that layer.
From what I've read others are saying is your layer 0 locked or frozen? It is not. Also in my layers manager nothing is turned off to make it any different from any other layer.
I'm used from XDP6 to having the P&L Gallery stay the size I set it to - whereas in XDP7, when I press 'Pages' to reduce the listing into page names only - the panel suddenly shrinks to the left, given that the names only occupy a small space. This bugs me, esp at it shunt the page I'm working on to the left by the same amount as well.

I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

Upon trying to open a line sheet i'm working on, photoshop tells me:

Because the layer is not a valid layer. Some layers will use existing pixel data.
this is how i usually duplicate a layer, by dragging and dropping to the new layer icon at the bottom of the palette. it is not letting me do that.
also, when i select a a single, or group of layers and move them around in the palette, i thought it used.
Once you create a composite layer at the top of your layer stack w. Option-click on "Merge Visible" in the Layer Panel Menu, is that new layer the only layer that now shows (represents) the image? For instance, if another adjustment layer is added below it, and the Background layer is the only image layer, will the effect of that adjustment be visible? Or do I need to delete the composite layer and create a new one to include the new adjustment layer?
The reason I ask has to do with an illustration (below) I came across from one of Mark Johnson's old NAPP tutorials (Total Control Glowing Montage). In his tutorial "Layer 1" was created as a composite layer of the Background Layer and "Levels 1" which had a Smart Filter applied to it. Then the two "Levels 1" copy layers were added last to fine-tune the effect of the Levels 1 adjustment. Notice they are BELOW the composite layer.

For instance I want to 'drop shadow' on a specific layer with layer styles and I use angle: 30 degrees and 80 % opacity,..
then on another layer, I want to 'drop shadow ' as well, using layer options, but with angle 120 degrees and 30% opacity.
This doesn't work as when I use for one layer this type of setting for 'drop shadow' all the other layers that I want to drop shadow on, will automatically get the same settings (same angle, opacity,...)
Is it possible to drop shadow in one layer with an angle of 120 and another layer with angle 30 for instance..?
any way to merge visible layers to a new layer, yet retain the layers that merged? Does that make sense. So if I want to merge layer 1, 2, 3 into a new layer 4. Can I create a layer 4 with all layers merged as one, yet still have 1, 2, and 3.
I'm looking for a menu item or shortcut to do this.

I've noticed that in my layers pallette, for each layer, on the left hand side is the "eye" icon, but then there should be a "paint brush" icon ....... and there isn't.
Is this why the whole process isn't working?

Why this certain copy of Photoshop CS5 is doing this. I'll be trying to fill a layer or a selection but whenever I fill it, it never fills anything below other objects in completely unrelated layers. Is there a setting I can turn off to make sure that this doesn't happen anymore?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis has baffled me that photoshop does not do this. But why can't I not ctrl+click on a layer and get to the layers underneath that layer? No matter how many times I ctrl+click the layer to select it, it just selects the same topmost layer.
It is interupting my workflow majorly and it is really frustrating when using a lot of texture overlays to have to hide them and then ctrl+click to find where the layer is that I want to work on. Right clicking on my document just brings up all layers in my document no matter where my mouse is.

I have three layers of different colors as below.
Layer 1topmost layer) with Red color filled rectangle.Layer 2(below Layer 1) with Green color filled rectangle.Layer 3(bottom most layer, below Layer 2) with Blue color filled rectangle.When I erase something with brush on Layer 1 using masking Layer 1, it hollows the erased part and start showing the Green color of Layer 2 in hollow section of Layer 1.
What I want to achieve is that, when I erase Layer 1 using layer mask, then it should hollow Layer 1 as well as Layer 2 and should show Blue color in the hollow section of Layer 1.i.e: Hollow section made on Layer 1(using Layer Mask on Layer 1) should also be applied on Layer 2 so that Layer 1 and Layer 2 becomes hollow using eraser and I should see through Layer 1 and Layer 2 and Blue color of Layer 3 should be visible from the hollow section.
Though I can do this by Flattening Layer 1 and Layer 2 together so that it forms one single Image, and then when I hollow this Flattened image using Layer Mask, then it will show me Blue color. But I do not want to do this, as I would lose the flexibility to unhollow/recover the hollow region on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 independently in the future.
Just downloaded CS6 Photoshop off the creative cloud and the merge layer command does not work. What is happening is there is one layer with a layer style then a shape layer and when I hit Cmd E it merges the layers but the layer style will not merge with it. I was chatting it up and everything they recommended did not work. It works on all my other co-workers computers and we are all on the cloud. I tried renaming pref. folder, settings folder, re-installing, holding down shft+option+cmd on start up. I also created a test account but that turned out to be a major inconvenience. Once logged into the account there is nothing there. The suggestions just started getting more ridiculous as chat proceeded. Nothing.
Any solution where I don't have to create a whole new admin account just to see if CS6 Photoshop works correctly? Adobe customer portal is about worthless.
I am having trouble aligning two layers that have layer masks on them. At the moment, the Align Left Edge tool is aligning the layers based off the entire contents of the layer, and not the mask, resulting in the layers not appearing aligned at all. Is there something I can do to tell the Align tool to take the masks into account?
I am using CS6.
PS CS6 .I have two items on a top layer (lets say the left and rights of a pair of earrings), and their accompannying shadows on a layer below. I'd like to be able to highlight both layers, draw a marquee around the right side earring (top layer) and shadow (bottom layer), and CDM+SHIFT+J them each to their own new layers, thus making four layers: left earring, left shadow, right earring, right shadow.This doesn't currently work,?
On a related note, one slow down to doing each layer at a time is that the command: CMD+SHIFT+D, to renew the last selection, only works sporadically for me (sometimes it simply doesn't renew any selection at all). What are the rules for when it should work and when it shouldn't?
