Photoshop :: Layer & Channels Disapeared - Cant Retrieve

Feb 9, 2007

I'm on photoshop 7.0, which I've had for a while. I only had the windows layers & channels up , while I was working on some avatars, but then all of a sudden they just both disappear - out of the blue. So I think okay, I'll get them back, and click window >> layers. But both layers AND channels were still ticked, I unticked them and ticked layers again. But they still didn't become visble.. PLUS it wouldn't let be select them both at the same time. All the other windows, like paths, swatches etc still work fine, just layer and channel being a pain in the back side.

Photoshop :: Turning A Layer Grey And Working With Channels

way to turn an individual layer greyscale?

Is there any easy way to merge two channels?

For example if I duplicate a channel to use as a selection or layer mask but it doesn't work well for some of the objects and some other channel does I'd like to be able to put them together.

Photoshop :: Levels Adjustment Layer / Drop-down To Choose Different Channels

Jun 29, 2012

I am using a CS6 trial on Windows 7, I can get more specs later but I can't remember anything else about my operating system (on a different computer at the moment).

I have noticed sometimes that when using a Levels adjustment layer, the drop-down to choose the different channels (red, green, blue) is grayed out, and I cannot click on it to choose the different colors. The numbers in the input & output boxes are also grayed out and I cannot type in them. The only time I have noticed this happening is directly after cropping an image. And then when I go to work on a different image and add an levels adjustment layer to it, those things are still grayed out. I have to restart the program to get it to work properly again.If I add a Curves layer, nothing is grayed out, everything works fine; it's just Levels.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Def Points Layer Locking

Feb 25, 2013

For some reason my computer is the only one in my office that is doing this.  Whenever something is put on the def points layer I am unable to select it afterwards.

Such things have been:

1) The viewport in paperspace.  The view cannot be resized but I can still click inside the viewport and work without problem.

2) Any line, block, etc made or put on that layer.

From what I've read others are saying is your layer 0 locked or frozen? It is not.  Also in my layers manager nothing is turned off to make it any different from any other layer.

Xara :: Locking Page And Layer Gallery?

Sep 7, 2011

I'm used from XDP6 to having the P&L Gallery stay the size I set it to - whereas in XDP7, when I press 'Pages' to reduce the listing into page names only - the panel suddenly shrinks to the left, given that the names only occupy a small space. This bugs me, esp at it shunt the page I'm working on to the left by the same amount as well.

What are they used for? I have been using PS for around 3 years primarly for web design and I have never used channels outside of loading a selection. I searched for more info; I mostly got tutorials that use alpha channels, but no real explanation as to what they primarly do.

Photoshop :: CC Locking Up

Sep 15, 2013

I had PS CS6 since it came out, and it was steady as a rock. Ever since I've moved to PS CC, it locks up about every 30-60 minutes. It doesn't crash, just freezes. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and start the task manager and kill the application there to start over.

I'm running windows 7 on the same machine that had CS6 on it, and I'm not doing anything different than I used to do with CS6. I've applied all the patches that are available in CC.

Photoshop :: Locking Panels In CS4

Nov 18, 2008

Is there a way to lock the height of the panels in CS4?

I like to have my navigator panel small and at the top with my History underneath and then my layers Panel the largest under that.

However, the sizes keep getting defaulted back and so it ends up the layer panel really small and the navigator panel bigger. This becomes 'pane' (sorry about the pun) having to keep stretching them out to how I want them?

Photoshop :: Locking System Of Layers In CS6

Aug 24, 2012

the locking system of layers in CS6 is a bit different. I created a folder, dropped a layer in there w/ a graphic. Duplicated the layer, and then began using the arrow keys to make the separation so I can move it around to a different location. Both layers are moving together. They are not linked. So I tried locking one, but the 'freed' layer won't move at all now: Could not use the move tool because linked layers are locked.

The application is automatically linking layers that are within the same folder. how do I keep them separated? There is no option to unlink...another flaw w/ CS6. Linked layers is grayed out.

Photoshop :: Locking/Joining Layers Together?

Apr 9, 2009

I am trying to make a background or an overlay of this pattern i created. i want to drop the opacity on all of it and be able to edit all of the parts of the image with one action, instead of all of the layers seperately.

all of the graphics are seperate layers on their own. i took and created new layers out of one another, from an original. so i have like 15 or so of them. is there a way to lock/join/merge them together into one, single editable layer?

i want to drag it onto another image and make them translucent. i can link them (with the little chain symbol on my layers window) and drag them all, but then if i try to do any editing, it will only do one at a time.

Photoshop :: Locking Opacity When Brushing?

Apr 12, 2009

Is there a way to lock a specific opacity while brushing out color? I want to brush a color out on my document that is at about 25% opacity and I don't want the opacity to "build" as I paint over color I've placed already? I want the color to remain at 25%. I'm not using the airbrush feature and I've been unable to find any setting that solves the problem. Each time I brush over my color the opacity builds, making obvious, unwanted streaks of more solid color.

I have a image that displays the following....

This template has been shrunk down to

300 DPI for file size reduction, it is actually

1200 DPI. To size it back up to 1200 DPI,

Lock all of these layers and then open up

a new 1200DPI file (width 3.4,height 2.2)

and drag these locked layers to that file,

then hit Ctrl+T then hold Ctrl+S and resize

the template. The template will look and

print much clearer after it’s re-sized.

Photoshop :: Channels

Mar 27, 2003

I guess sometimes teaching newbies like me is annoying. I could take the easy way ripping like most of the people does, but i do really want to learn, and i have a question, so if someone thinks tht spending his time teaching a fool newbie is something worth, thr it goes...

I know when we have an image even it is using "RGB" or "CMYK" collor mode, it is divided in channels, red, green, blue and so... this i can understand quite clear, but wht exactly is an alpha channel??? wht collor it represents??? Wht is it for??? Is there an article tht i could read about it??? I can manage it well, but i'd like to know it's concepts..

Photoshop :: Channels

Jul 20, 2004

I have been using the Total Training series, and am ALMOST complete (Just gotta go over the Typeface tool area and go over the Bonus disc material)

One area that Deke (the host of the series) didn't get into much was Channels. Hopefully I would like to state how I see them, and if I am incorrect in any way (or if you have useful information about channels), you could pipe in and let me know! Thanks.

Ok, so channels are dependant on the Color Mode you are in, right? If you are in RGB, then you'll have 4 channels. Red, Green, Blue, and the channel which controls them all, called RGB. In CMYK color mode, you'll have 5. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and the control channel 'CMYK'.

Each channel, aside from the control channels, are a Grayscale mapping of that color's (WHAT?) in an image? It's Lightness? Saturation? I know it couldn't be Hue, because that's determined by the collective color from each channel put together.

Also, what is the point in ADDING channels? I thought that it would be nice if you could add a channel which affected the layer via some kind of adjustment, but that is merely the adjustment layer feature (with mask used in order to define intensity of the effect on that layer) So what is the point in adding channels?

Photoshop :: Align Layers Based On Content Locking Up CS6

Using "Align Layers..." is a function I use daily.  Many, many times.  Yesterday, using this normal function began locking up my Photoshop session.  I have 1.5GB+ of scratch disk available.  I'm using the same procedures I've always used.  I've reinstalled Photoshop CS6. I'm into work around mode, since I have lots of work to do, but I'd love to get this process back on track so I can get back to a normal workflow.
