View 4 RepliesThe UI for max is getting bigger as newer tools become implemented. Some new tools are now in a ribbon browser called "Graphite Modeling Tools" while others are in the old Command Panel. And some old tools like Selection for editable polys are in both locations! Doesn't that seem like a waste?
What is the future User Interface for 3ds Max? I hope to see less mouse clicks, less icons and a more intuitive way of approaching a 3ds max scene.
I'm currently attending college for digital media and animation, and I have licensing for 3DS MAX 2014 educational. I noticed that at my school, they have ribbon tools divided into sections, such as Freeform> Polydraw, Paint deform, Defaults, etc.
I have absolutely nothing in my Freeform tab. I'm trying to work on enviroment using PolyDraw, but it is non-existent on my computer, nor have I found any information about how to download it. Am I to assume educational version does not come with ribbons, such as Polydraw?
I mean to say that a wide range of my Graphite Modeling Tools are not installed/missing. I have Modeling >Polygon Modeling; Object Paint> Paint Objects / Brush Settings; and Populate features. Freeform Tools & Selection are both completely empty.
I have just started working at a studio who use Max 2008, however I was previously using Max 2010 in my old job and miss my graphite modelling tools. Are there any scripts or plugins available that provide something similar?
Viewport Background
Also I have been asked to produce an illustration, so I have set it as a viewport background & locked pan and zoom. However, it does not actually lock the pan or zoom and just moves the camera which is causing a bit of frustration, as well as straining my eyes.
It seems everytime I combine objects or do some weird deforming to objects the the Move Tool/Scale Tool/Rotate Tool drifts off into space and forces me to zoom out of what im working on to use the tools. This gets very bothersome when im moving a piece into just the right place and i need to be zoomed in. Im still quite new at Maya and 3D in general.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi used to work a lot with polyboost and since the change from polyboost to graphite modeling tools, i built my own toolbars in max.to customize the interface, i found all the tools i needed in the polytools category.one big exception is even/odd selection presets (skip, nthselect / step), which i found an extremely useful edge-selection tool. i attach a screenshot of the polyboost tools rollout, where these settings could be found formerly. at the end of this message i also attach a dicription of these settings from the polyboost work. Where to find the command to launch this toolbox. or if this feature possibly was not included in the graphite modeling tools?

selects subobject-elements that have even numbers like 2,4,12 and so on. the "skip" spinner determines how many numbers to skip between the even numbers, so a value of 1 will select elements numbered 2,4,6,8 and so on. a value of 2 will select elements numbered 2,6,10,14 and so on.
shortcut: when used as a shortcut this tool will default to 1 as a skip value.
odd

nth sel
selects the next even or odd numbered element in the model. because of the way the numbers are laid out in a basic primitive in max, this will in a way duplicate the selection further down the element numbers. the "STEP" spinner determines how big the jump is to the next selection. if the "reverse(rev)" checkbox is checked the selection will be created in the opposite way, and if the "move" checkbox is checked the selection will not be duplicated, but moved instead.
My manipulation tools doesn't show up when i click show manipulation tool. neither move,neither rotation..nothing!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI instal form SDK User Tools because I need in Inventor Drawing Tools (Revision cloud). I do this install like on website Autodesk show and I didn't get it on ribbon. I do also registry of this plugin but I also didn't get it.
I used Invenbtor 2013 with servce pack.
How or where I can get the Detail tools that was in the 2013 Tool Palette?

There seems to be way too many tools in the tools panel for me. Many of them I will rarely, if ever use. Is there any way I can rearrange or remove some of them? It would unclutter the screen immensely.

The typical scenario woulld be as follows: the user lifts the pen from the tray, the pen event will me mapped into selecting Pencil Tool from AI toolbar after which the user can add freehand annotations to the AI document.
Is there an API which would allow me to map abailable hardware tools with relevant AI tools? Is there an example which would demonstrate such integration?
How to get the 'Shape to Block' command to work (under express tools).
It says select object, but no matter what object I select eg. circle, pline or line, it says invalid selection. I am running AutoCAD 2012. Are 'shape' objects somehow different from any other objects?
I am able to use the menuload command to load the express menu, but when I try to execute one of the express tools. AutoCAD say invalid command, there was something on the website that said to type express tools at the command prompt, but when I do that, too it says invalid command.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am fluent in sketchup modeling but have had no success in attempting to model something similar to the crinkled wall mass in the attached image. I have d/l'ed 3dsmax for 30 trial and trying to learn on the fly, which is difficult. before i spend too much time trying to to achieve a crinkled wall mass? in my first attempt i was able to create a rectangle, add modifer of garment maker and apply cloth attributes (and ripple) to it but it's too smooth around the edges although it had amplitude to it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCad Civil 3D 2012, with windows XP, and when I type "extrim" at the command line, I get this:
Command: extrim
"bad argument type: listp #<SUBR @2f9669b0 BONUS_ERROR>"
There are also a few other express tools that when picked from the ribbon menu, do not work either. Now, I have seen elsewhere on the web that in this case, you should make sure there are no search paths set to R14 Bonus tools (which mine aren't), or repair and update express tools from add/remove programs in the control panel. I did this, and the only thing that happened was the numbers after SUBR@ changed.
I'm an architecture student who has high interest in 3d modeling.I would like to learn how to design something in a very organic form for a change.I can model very accurately and fast what I need on Autocad most of the time, but it seems like autocad 3d modeling is not the best tool to be using for modeling something very curvy and random.

So Basically, I want to be able to first sculpt the general exterior form I have sketched out or in my mind, and not only that, I would like to model the interior portions so I can have renders from inside the building. (Like the ons from the examples)
Although in architecture, 3D modeling comes into play after the 2d drafting, I don't think it's the same case for organic shapes. I would have a general layout sketched out on paper how the building would be formed, but not necessarily accurately measured. Then I would model the building to cut the sections through, and extract them out along with floor plans thus creating a very accurate orthographic drawings as well as gorgeous renders.or just poly edit with soft selection and other modifiers?
The best that work out was giving it a path constrain to a sphere changing to a rectangle and making some snapshot which it does not give me the specific control I need.

How to create a quick sponge (or pores) look to an object without using materials?
Background: I am creating masonry and mortar. I need to zoom real close to the mortar so I can see the pores. Then I am going to have a blueish object pass thru the mortar to show water penetrating the mortar. Or something like that. I can't use a material to represent the look because I need to have an object pass thru it.
My application works with function it acet-ss-drag-moves of Express Tools. Can I distribute AutoCAD Express Tools with the program of Installation of my application?
This to guarantee that Express Tools will be with the user's AutoCAD. If this is possible what document should I use?
Every thing was just fine but at particular moment I noticed that viewports are not updating when I'm working. Sometime there is note ''inactive'' so to see changes I need to click on viewport to see them. I just can't work
p.s. In viewport configuration/rendering method/apply to: All viewports. I tried to google.
Right now I'm working on a preliminary horse model to test a number of theories I have about the best way I can model our carousel figures to show potential clients.
I am currently trying to place a saddle on the back of a horse and have the saddle sit snugly on the surface of the animal without passing through. Ideal, I would like for this to be something that could be animated as our goals are to build rigs in the models to show the different positions we can carve our carousel figures in.
I am right now trying the cloth modifier in order to drop a saddle-shaped place onto the back of the horse and then once that is against the surface, extrude the saddle from the plane. However this tends to cause wrinkling and would be great for the saddle blankets which will have lots of folds, including decorative folds in them (I already bookmark a great tutorial for pulling and arranging fabric).
Is there a way to tell the plane (or even the bottom faces of my sculpted saddle) to snap to the surface of the horse's back? Perhaps the surface or attachment constraints? I've tried both of those and so far have not had any luck. I'd like to avoid lining each individual vertex up if possible and I'd like to keep the objects detached for future swapping of various saddle designs.
What would the best way, in your experience, to do saddles on animals? If you have seen a carousel animal before, you are aware that they have decorative trappings covering their backs and heads. My eventual goal is to have one model of each animal we can do and to be able to swap out an assortment of trappings to show future clients what the company can do. Right now, everything is based on pictures of what we have done and drawings by the wood carvers.

I try downloading Auto CAD True View, but did not get it to work, since then I have been getting unknown Command "txt2mtxt" now none of my commands work. I try auto cad repair from the install program and it still does not work.
