Paint.NET :: How To Create Wide Screen Format Wallpapers
May 11, 2011
I just joined and this is my first post. Actually I have not even downloaded the Paint.net program yet - have to wait till I get home from the office. Thought I would ask if the program is pretty user friendly for creating wallpapers, and if there is a "template" for it. I will want to create some "wide-screen" format wallpapers, so wondering what dimensions those usually are - should I assume that is determined by the actual dimensions of my monitor??? Free -floating questions from a newbie..!!!

I'm trying to find a editor that will allow me to do some basic things with a very large tiff file created from a wide-format scanner. I had hopes that Paint .NET would do it since it seems to support 64 bit. The file I'm trying to edit is 1.7GB uncompressed tiff. Unfortunately, Paint seems to take forever to load (5-10 minutes), even when I have at least that much available memory on my 4GB Win7-64 machine. Are there any tips to conserve memory or to make this possible?

I'm relativly new to 3ds and have built a model which I now need to walkthrough and save the file as a video file. I have used the walthrough assistant and created 4000 image (jpeg) files. I have loaded into RAM player and it runs, although only takes 50% of the images in. Each image file is only 236kb and renders at 1024 x614. I try to save the file as an .avi file and the system immediatly crashes with the explanation "Not responding". Machine spec should be fine with 8gig of RAM,Intel Xeon quad 2.66, 64bit win 7 and Nvidia Quadro FX4800
My questions are:
"What is the best way to create a walkthrough as a video file to be shown on wide screen TV's?"
"Is there a maximum amount of memory RAM player can use?"
"Should I use RAM player at all and just save as an AVI?, this has been tried but if I try the full 4000 frames it also crashes and fails to save".

I'm designing a roll-up banner with an image of two people that has to be on the banner, so I use Photoshop for the background + the image of the people.
What is the best color depth (8/16/32 bits/channel) for this roll-up banner when working on 100% of the original size: 1260x2120 mm? Other tips and tricks for future designs concerning color depth?

My project is NOT wide-screen. So I go to Settings and undo wide-screen. Everything is now fine. But, the next time I start up VS Pro X4, I find it has reset itself to wide-screen. Must I undo this each time I start up. I can't find anything in preferences that will keep it at my project setting.

This was exported to tif and sent to the printer, the glow is a white outer glow.
As I usually do I exported the whole thing to a TIF and low and behold black lines in the print.
This was the bullet proof way of getting what you saw on the screen to hadcopy but sadly no more.
Can this be addressed in SP1, as it puts a serious hole in all the signies bag of tricks for that matter any body who wants to output special EFX from Corel.

When I start up PSE11 and go to print I set up the paper size then select a Printer Profile. When print the image it is a mess and seem to be black and white it is as if I printed on the wrong side of the paper.
I then go and try to print it again. Now it all works as it should beutiful colours and spot on. all other print following this works.
Then I shut down PSE11. Start it up again. Guess what first print is a mess again. all others after are fine.
I uninstalled PSE11, deleted prefs. and reinstalled PSE11. Same thing.. first print a mess all others ok.
no problems with PSE10 or PSE9.

Sometimes when I view vector art on the screen the letter I shows up extra wide and big, but the printed version works fine. Example below. This only happens some of the time to me, but not always with the same piece of artwork. I think this must be a common problem.

I have got a logo that is 451 x197. It has a resolution of 72 px. I am trying to increase the resolution so that I can use the image for business cards and letterhead.
I need for the image to have a width of about 2500 pixels. If I scale the image to 2500 pixels the edges look pixelized or blurry.
My question is: Is there a way that I can make the 471 px logo stretch to 2500 px and still have sharp edges?

Is there a way (a simple way) to have Adobe Photoshop batch produce all the wallpaper sizes (and name them accordingly)? Then, if I ever make the slightest change in my wallpaper, I don't have to go through the arduous task of reproducing all the wallpaper sizes again.
Also, is it possible to have certain things, like pixel perfect fonts, to remain the same size regardless of the output image size? I hope you follow that. In other words, if I have a font that is pixel-perfect, that I do not want scaled, can I have it remain that same exact absolute size for each wallpaper size?

I would like to slice a widescreen wallpaper into 3 smaller wallpapers for use on a cell phone.
The original is 1680 wide by 1050 high. I would like to trim it to 960 high and then slice into 3 pieces that are each 540 wide for use on a cell phone. Is it possible to do this with gimp?

My primary graphics tool is Paint.Net, but I have found an inadequacy for what I am doing.
Paint.NET copies data to the clipboard in the following formats
PaintDotNet.MaskedSurface
Format17
System.Drawing.Bitmap
Bitmap
DeviceIndependentBitmap
found by examining data.GetFormats() in C#. I cannot use PaintDotNet.MaskedSurface in my application and the others don't provide full transparency information for PNGs. Is there a way to have Paint.NET copy data to the clipboard using "PNG" format?
In my app, I can copy an image into the clipboard using the following code, and all transparency information is retained.
using (MemoryStream stream = newMemoryStream())
{
_Bitmap.Save(stream, ImageFormat.Png);
var data = newDataObject("PNG", stream);
Clipboard.Clear();
Clipboard.SetDataObject(data, true);
}
and I can read the same from the clipboard using the following
IDataObject data = Clipboard.GetDataObject();
if (data.GetFormats().Contains("PNG")){
MemoryStream ms = (System.IO.MemoryStream)data.GetData("PNG");
_Bitmap = (Bitmap)Bitmap.FromStream(ms, true);
}

I've been working with needs to be able to use RLE formatted BMPs... unfortunately, simply changing things to 256-color BMPs doesn't work (it shuffles the colors for some reason), and I can't just use the vastly superior PNG due to how the software works.
Any plugins that allow me to work with RLE formatted BMP?

Given that it seems to be a good idea to render VSP projects to a single video file before attempting to create a DVD through Share Create Disc, I am wondering what is the most optimal type of video file to initially render the VSP into.
The video from my camera comes in a ACVHD 1080/60i. My target final disc is either 1) standard DVD, or 2) Blu Ray. I have been rendering the VSP into a 1920x1080 AVCHD format.

Look at the screen shot of the "Create slide show" below: If I take pictues in 16:9 format in order to use the full capacity of my PC or TV sceen, the working area in Elements does not give me the chance to do do that! The area is always 4:3 format, thus giving me black stripes om top and botton of the picture.

I'm new to Paint.net.
Until recently, I was using the paint app of Windows 7. However, the office changed my laptop to a PC running Windows XP SP3.
I do a lot of documentation work and part of my job requires me to save screenshots for posterior use in product manuals.
My situation is this:
I have to save in .bmp format (office policy) and, by default, Paint.net saves in .png format.
Is there any way to set the Save default format to .bmp or any other format?
Secondly, when I save a file that contains a period in its name (for example "ch2.p16" - chapter 2, page 16), it will save the file but not in the format selected. Instead, Paint.net assumes that anything after the period is the file extension. Thus, the file is saved as "ch2.p16" with a file type of "p16".
Is there any way to bypass this glitch other than having to avoid using periods in the file name? (I've attached an image)

.pdn is format for working project. Sometimes to some elements in workspace need to add extra metadata(ex.: font style and size, another example - in case of color with alpha - thectly color definition, in some cases - describe object relation.)All this stuff exist in adobe reader. All what need - copy functionality to Paint.NET.

I was in the process of making a banner for my own webcast, but I'm getting frustrated for clearing the background so that a floating banner near the bottom of the screen during the webcast/recorded show.
I've been saving/deleting/experimenting with tolerances so that the background is clear so it appears to float on screen (no effects, just a banner). I've done everything I can to get a clear background, but have been failing miserably, and i couldn't seem to find anyting in relation to this.
The screen size I'm going to be working with is 640x480. The banner I'm creating is 640x100 for the banner. I've also been keeping the Save Configurations to 8-bit so it doesn't effect (I could be very wrong about this too, though) video quality (atleast that I know of).
Here's an example of what I would like to do. . .
Instead of keeping the MF logo restrained in the border, I've been wanting to let it overlap over, but doing that I would get either black or white background, depending on the tolerances that I delete off, and as a PNG file.

I'm still using PSP X3. What format more knowledgeable people for me use for editing images.
In the past, I'd take the jpeg produced by my camera, convert it to PSP format, and then when finally finished, save it as jpeg again.
I understand that the PSP format is no longer used, so should I just work in jpeg format? My understanding is that any intermediate saving would compromise image quality; if not jpeg, then what?
