Paint.NET :: Promoting Layers Up And Down

May 6, 2012

The online tutorial shows, in the layers window, an up arrow and a down arrow, supposedly used to change the level of the current layer:Move Layer Up. This will move the current layer to a higher position in the layer order.Move Layer Down..This will move the current layer to a lower position in the layer order.

However, these arrows do not appear in my program. Also, I'm not clear on the function of "move layer up", since the current layer is the top layer, isn't it? So, how do I push the current layer back, so that the one behind it becomes the current layer? (At present I have only two layers in the picture I'm working on.)

I installed version 3.5.10 either yesterday or the day before, so it is current.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Promoting Parts In Assemblies From Stock Sub-assemblies Or Component Groups

Oct 3, 2011

I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.

Paint.NET :: Always Start With Two Layers?

Dec 3, 2011

Whenever you open up paint.net, it always has one white-background layer as the default layer.

Then i start drawing and after a while i realize "if i did this on transparent background i could reuse it in so many places!". So i either have to manually erase the white background carefully around every corner or restart drawing.

It would be good if the default was two layers, one white background layer and one empty layer where you start drawing. I know it's super simple to just create a new one manually when you start, but i'm often in such a rush when opening up to start drawing that i always forget.

Paint Shop Pro :: How To Save PSD Or EPS With Layers

I haven't really used PSP for doing custom graphics, mostly for working on photos; but before that I was using Adobe Photoshop and I liked (and still do) how it made saving easier than PSP does. Unfortunately Photoshop is horribly expensive so this is a better option.

I can't figure out for the life of me how to save .psd or .eps with the layers? It keeps telling me that due to how I am saving or the file format the alpha layers will be lost and so on.

Paint Shop Pro :: How To Manipulate Layers

May 4, 2012

I have Paint Shop Pro X4 which I am using to try and manipulate images of postage stamps. I scan the stamp using a film/slide scanner and using the cmyk splitter can produce a good images of the watermark and postmark cancellation, which I save separately. On a lot of the older stamps the plate number, from which the stamp is printed, is engraved into the design of the stamp and quite often this number is obliterated by the black cancellation mark. Is there any way using layers, or any other X4 feature, I can lift the cancellation mark from the image to see what is underneath?

Paint Shop Pro :: Using Adjustment Layers

May 21, 2013

I'm using 3-5 adjustment layers on some of my work. Even though I have larger files, without Adjustment layers, once I add an Adjustment Layer to ANY piece of work things slowdown big time. For example a 'normal' curves application is almost instant. But if I add a curves Adjustment Layer then what took 1-2 second takes 10-15 seconds using an Adjustment Layer.

So is there something that Adjustment Layers are doing that is a computer hog? Or am I overlooking something? Or are they just configured in such away that they are naturally slower? [URL]....

Did that make sense? I am trying to avoid drawing an excessive amount of shapes.

Photoshop :: Can't Erase Or Paint On Layers In CS2

Apr 20, 2009

I assume I have done something that will not allow me to "Paint" or "Erase" on layers. When I choose the paintbrush, the "chip" indicating the color no longer appears on the toolbar, opacity is set to 100%. Blending option is set to "Normal". "Paint Fill", shapes, filters and everything else works, so the layer or pixels are not locked. If I use one of the tools, the action appears in the "history" pallette, but does not appear on the display. This problem occurs on multiple images.I'm sure there are more settings that are relavent to solving the issue, but I can't think of any more right now.

Paint.NET :: Automatic Layers Alignment On Top Of Each Other

May 28, 2013

Here's what I want to do: I want to automatically align two layers on top of each other.

Let's say I have two pictures. Each picture has a photography in the background and some text in the foreground. I now want to maximize the parts of the picture that aren't blocked by text. The two pictures don't have the same size and additionally, the aspect ratio of both photographies is slightly off. So to align both pictures (e.g. in two layers on top of each other), one of the images would need to be not only rescaled but also stretched (or clinched respectively). Is there a way to do this automatically? The operation itself would be extremely simple:

1. create two "anchor points" (with mandatory diagonal distance to each other) on both images which depict the same part of the picture each
2. run the automatic operation. It justs alignes the anchor points by re-scaling one of the images - nothing more.

Paint.NET :: Copy All Layers Into New PDN File

Sep 24, 2011

I've got a large project with an object that's dependent on a multitude of layers (over 17).

I don't want to flatten them because it's a large no no, and with they way the whole image is setup, idk if it's possible.

I want to just copy all the layers into a new .pdn file and save it separately so I can experiment with flattening without wrecking the big picture, as well as just having it for versatility for use in future projects.

So is there any way to copy an entire layer over? I don't mean magic wand it over to a new project (I just tried that.). I need all the settings with the layer, the opacity, filter settings, Title etc etc.

Pasting it over won't work since a lot of layers have filter settings like Overlay and the such.

I tried manually reapplying the settings, but there's so many different layers it's virtually impossible to figure which one needs which settings. It would be easier if AT LEAST the layer titles were transferred over, that way I could at least figure out which layers I'm looking at between the two projects, but I haven't figure a way to do it yet.

So is there any way to do this? Or any alternative?

And if not can it be added to a 4.X version? I think this would be a killer feature. I can think of a few other occasions

Paint.NET :: Export Layers From PDN To Images?

Aug 5, 2012

Is there a way to export all/some of the layers in a PDN to single images ?

maybe an "export layers" option ?

I think I saw a plugin some where that saves layers. but i'm not sure.

the reason for me asking is that I have started a number of new projects and most of the work is already based on and done under other different PDN projects and I want to take a few layers from each PDN project file..

I tried the long way to check/unchecked layers and flatten the image each

time , but its too much work :-(

there must be a faster way to do it.

If not , can something like this be added to Paint.Net.

we do have under layers "import from file".

can "export to file" be added ?

where i can select the type of Image like jpg/png and it would export the selected layers.

Paint.NET :: Do Colours Show Through When Using Layers

Jun 21, 2012

When I am using layers and the background is a photo of the colour blue (rectangular shape). Now as a new layer, I am pasting another photo (a smaller rectangular shape) on top, with say a car in the middle.

Then saving this 'montage' as one jpeg. Now, when printing this image, would the blue colour that is physically under the smaller car photo shine through underneath? Or would it only print and use what is physically shown, despite me knowing that underneath there is another darker colour?

(As the end result should just show the smaller rectangular photo with the car and that one being surrounded by a blue border.)

Is that the way to transfer one layer's image into another canvas? Or is there a surer and easier way.

Paint.NET :: Layers Of Text On Photo

Feb 7, 2013

I'm all thumbs when it comes to photo editing. I have a simple question and I'm not sure how to phrase it.

I have d/l a photo, and used Paint.NET to place text onto the photo. So far so good.

Is there a way (or a particular file format) that will allow me to go back, after the photo has been saved, and edit (delete or move) the text that I have already entered onto the photo? I tried with JPG and PNG, and after saving the photo with text on it, I was unable to delete or move it.

Is there any way I can work it so that I can edit text, that has already been saved? I have attached a copy of the photo here--to get it under the 256K limit, I had to shrink it.

The reason I ask, is that I am restructuring maps on my website, a process which requires repeated file saving and although I am working on the files in TIF format, they tend to degrade after a while. To work without saving is high risk, as a great deal of hard work can easily be lost, as I have found out. I thought that if I could spread out the saving process, it would improve matters.
