Paint.NET :: Highlight Control In Screenshot

Jul 3, 2011

I have taken a screenshot of a dialog in Windows and I want to manipulate it so that one of the controls on the dialog is highlighted. One effect that I have seen other screenshots take is to darken most of the screenshot, leaving the control to which the viewer's attention should be drawn in its original color. The image at [URL] .... is close to the effect I want to achieve -- darken some areas of the screenshot and leave other areas in their original color, thereby bringing attention to the undarkened areas.

How might I acheive this effect in Paint.NET? I am new to the app, so feel free to point me to tutorials if I need to learn about layers or some other aspects of the app.

Paint.NET :: Website Screenshot / Screenprint Only Saves As Word Doc

May 26, 2012

I have just joined and installed Paint.net earlier this week.

Well my title is what it says, I got a picture from a website via Screenshot/Screenprint and it will not save in your picture app feature, it keeps saving as a word app which I had first printed the Screenshot/Screenprint to.

Would I be better Screenshot/Screenprinting direct from the webpage, I wouldn't want to lose this perfect picture.

Paint.NET :: Modifier Keys Temporarily Highlight Selected Pixels

Jun 20, 2011

When working with selections - particularly when adding multiple Magic Wand selections to build the selection required - it can be difficult to see clearly (from the shading and outlines which show the current selection) what is selected already and what isn't - particularly at some zoom levels and depending upon the colour(s) of the pixels that you are working with (blue-greys, for example).

My suggestion, therefore, is that in any of the Selection tools, while you are holding down either of the modifier keys Ctrl or Alt (which would modify the Selection Mode of any further selection to Add or Subtract mode), all currently selected pixels should be temporarily highlighted - overridden by a single colour (say, your current primary colour?) with the shading (and outlines?) that normally depict the currently selected pixels removed. This would make it easy to visually confirm exactly what pixels are currently selected.

Perhaps the removal of outlines ought to depend upon the magnification that is currently being used: at high magnifications where each pixel is depicted by a relatively large screen area and the outline can be easily distinguished from the interior of each pixel, then outlines (perhaps of your current secondary colour?) might work to define the selected area, but where pixels are very small it might be best to remove them.

Also, as a visual indicator/reminder of the modification which the modifier key will make to the effect of the next selection - and one that is slightly larger than the minuscule plus or minus sign that appears in the mouse pointer - would it be easy to temporarily override the Selection Mode symbol showing in the tool selection toolbar, with the symbol for the modified effect, whenever the modifier key is depressed? Not forgetting that this symbol ought to change again if the Right Mouse Button is used instead of the Left.

If the above is easy, then, in the Magic Wand tool, could the Flood Mode symbol in the tool selection toolbar be similarly temporarily overridden with the Global Flood Mode symbol, when the shift key is used to override Contiguous Flood Mode?

Paint.NET :: Remote Control Buttons

Jan 9, 2012

Been using Paint.NET for years, but mainly very simple stuff all revolving around making buttons for various touch screen remotes I've had over the years.

I'm now doing a whole new set of buttons for an iPad app I'm using and one thing's got me stuck. I've downloaded a bunch of TV channel logos (130 x 90) and I want to put them on buttons. The logos all have white backgrounds, but my buttons are dark grey. I can get rid of the white backgound no problem using the magic wand, but that leaves me with the dither to white around the image, and when I put this onto the dark backgound it looks terrible. The dither seems very important due to the small image size. I guess what I'm trying to do is change a 'dither to white' to a 'dither to dark grey'. How do I do this ?

Paint Shop Pro :: X4 Document Control Icon

Oct 6, 2011

In PSP versions prior to X4, when you had the current image maximized within the interface you'd get a standard MDI Document Control Icon appearing at the left end of the Menu Bar. This is a feature common to the most Windows programs built in the default Multiple Document Interface style. The new custom style of X4 removes this.

It's a not a huge deal, but I'm pretty used to doubleclicking that little doodad to close my images, so I figured I'd try to get it back.

Here it is in X2 (on the left) and the little "@" symbol is the version I've recreated to work around its absence in X4 (on the right):

To do this, open any image, start recording a macro, close the image, Save the macro and call it "Close Current Image" or something like that.

Restart X4 because customization changes don't stick if you've had an image open this session. (long standing bug)

Right click the empty space in the middle of the Edit perspective. Choose Customize. Hit the Scripts tab. Find your macro in the dropdown, pick an icon and hit the Bind button. Your script now appears in the Bound Scripts part of the dialog.

Switch to the Commands tab. Select Bound Scripts. Drag your script to the left end of the Menu bar. Even though you've bound an image to it, the image doesn't show (another bug, I guess). Right click your new rather wordy looking "Close Current Image" menu entry and select "Button Appearance". At the bottom of the Button Appearance dialog you can change the text to something nice and short like "@" or "X" maybe. Hit OK, and you've got a convenient close image button that lives visually in about the same spot as similar icons in most MDI-based software.

Restart X4 after customizing and before starting any work otherwise the changes won't stick.

Paint.NET :: Ellipse / Line Tools Control

Aug 20, 2011

Since the location of an ellipse is extremely difficult to predict, would it be possible to make the ellipse tool behave like the Text tool?

That is, when you have created the ellipse, have a 'handle' appear next to it so you could move it to the exact location desired. Maybe even a selection box that you could modify its shape and rotation as if you had selected it.

The other feature I would like to see is constrainment of all drawing tools (brush, pencil, color change) as is done with the Line/Curve tool. Hold the Shift key to keep the line straight.or is there some way in which these features already exist?

Paint Shop Pro :: Commands Involving Control Key Will Very Rarely Work

Dec 13, 2011

I use PaintShop Pro v. 11.20 at work. I was using it as normal one day, and it crashed. This is nothing new, the crash is because I tend to have a lot of programs open at the same time and I had not rebooted my computer soon enough to clear the RAM. The problem occurred when I reopened the paint shop after rebooting, and all commands involving the control key (copy/paste, etc.) as well as the delete key do nothing. Very occasionally, it will allow one of these commands to work, but this is now very rare. If I have an object selected, the highlighting will blink briefly as it does when you try to copy it, but otherwise does nothing. I can still use these commands from the drop-down menus. I think this is probably just some random bug that happened when it crashed for whatever reason. If I can avoid reinstalling that would be preferable, as I would have to have the disks mailed to me by the head office. I looked to see if there was some setting that would put things back to normal but could find nothing. I reset defaults, no change.

Photoshop :: Wraps Paste Of Screenshot

Jul 19, 2013

I've had this problem a while. At first, I thought it was Windows, but the problem only happens in Photoshop.

I get a screenshot of a dialog box using alt+PrtScr.  This gets just the dialog box and not the surrounding images.

Next, I go into Photoshop and create a new document (ctrl-n).  This brings up the dialog and sets the preset to Clipboard and the dimensions are properly set, so I go ahead and create the empty document.

Next, I paste (ctrl-v) the image into the document.  The left part of the image (not sure how many pixels) should actually be on the right.  I can cut them off one end and paste it on the other, but this eats up a lot of time when you need to create several images.

This does not happen in MS Word or Adobe Illustrator.  Only Photoshop.  I would like to get this fixed because it is much more efficient in Photoshop (if it works correctly) than in Illustrator.

Environment: Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), Photoshop CC

AutoCAD 2010 :: Take A Hidden Line Screenshot?

Aug 19, 2012

I used these commands years ago and cant remember what they are. I am designing furniture in 3D and want to view the object at SE Isometric, then rotate an additional 18 degrees, then take a screenshot that will basically give me a block that is a line drawing of the object with lines hidden. This is a question with two parts:

#1: How do I rotate from SE Isometric 18 degrees to get the view angle I want?

#2: How do I take a screenshot of the object that will produce a block with hidden lines?

There are two seperate commands for each of these, I just can't remember what they are.

Attached is a picture of the final product I'm looking for.

Xara :: Screenshot Of Default Xtreme Toolbars

May 31, 2011

A copy whichever version of Xtreme was the last one before the flyout buttons, copy of the default toolbars?

I've used Xtreme Pro v6 since it was released with just the pointless 3D and Live Effect buttons removed from the toolbar, and always mean to get round to putting the other buttons back as they were but always seem to be too busy. I particularly dislike the gallery flyout buttons and can never find the bitmap and name gallery without spending 10 seconds or so looking for it.

Installing Xtreme Pro v7 is the prompt I needed to get the toolbars sorted out once and for all. I'm sure I can work more quickly if the buttons are where I'm used to, but just as with the keyboard I can type very quickly so instinctively know where the keys are, but couldn't write the keys in order if my life depended on it!

Paint Shop Pro :: X4 - Block Size Control To Local Tone Mapping Adjustment?

Oct 22, 2011

From X3 to X4, Corel added a "Block Size" control to the Local Tone Mapping adjustment. Is it the number of pixels over which the contrast adjustment is being applied? It seems that the smaller block sizes reduce the effect's harshness (when it could be harsh, e.g., with faces).

Checked the manual and they forgot to mention it.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Control Print Line Weights On Feature Control Frames?

Nov 8, 2012

Using AutoCAD 2013 and TOL command to generate feature control frames.  We set our lineweights based on layer assignments.

Problem is that when printing, AutoCAD seems to randomly assign a lineweight to the feature control frames.  It can vary from what it's supposed to be (such as lineweight set for the dimension layer) or thicker than even what the object lines are set at.  Seems to pick a random linewieght at time of printing for these elements (just the boxes, not the symbols/text itself).

Is there a setting we should be defining somewhere to force it to follow the lineweight of the layer that it has been assigned to?  Known bug?
