Maya :: Undocumented Environment Variables?
Aug 19, 2011
List the undocumented environment variables in maya 2012 and what the do?
I have been fighting with geforce driver and configuration issues on vista x64 business and I keep seeing suggestions to set these variables
MAYA_SLOW_DRAWPIXELS = 1
MAYA_NO_VERTEX_ARRAY_SELECT = 1
MAYA_GEFORCE_SKIP_OVERLAY=1
MAYA_HOTBOX_USE_SOFTWARE = 1
But I cannot find them documented in maya 2012 so I am concerned that they are not implemented.

Why is photoshop 14 drawing colors differently than 13 and is there any way to stop it?I have a 256 step, three channel wedge, made without dither or aliasing, which draws perfectly (no bands or crossover) in CS6. This same file draws messed up in CC, with slight colors shifts and stepping. I have saved out the color settings from CS and loaded them in CC. The individual channels draw the same in both files when viewed singly.While my monitor calibration has only been perfect this way on gamma 1.8 images (this is what I have my NEC spectraview software set to), but it has been perfect, no steps, in both colormatch and gray gamma 1.8 from CS4 through CS6. Now, comparing CC to CS, on the same monitor, same file, same settings, the channels draw identically but the color composite is different.
The screen shot of the color composite file is shows 3/4 tone changes:

The same file with a solar curve on it:

Channels draw as before, and match up, witness the screen shot of the channels lined up with a solar curve:

I realize that this probably doesn't look bad in the context of a webbrowser, however, usless I've made some gross mistake, the rendering has changed and I see no documentation on it.

I have a student whose images are being edited on import. She does not have any import filters active (i.e. nothing in "Apply During Import") and the History panel reports only the import and date. But basic adjustments are being made to the images (e.g. Exposure, Contrast, etc.)
I cannot figure out how to disable this editing.
She is using Lightroom 5, a Nikon D3100 camera shooting RAW, and is importing directly into Lightroom from the card.

Am I able to access and read and write to the file holding the variables used in the parameters-manager's palette. Ideally, I want to read the value held for an action-parameter, do some math using C, and write the result back to the file as a user-parameter which may be seen in the parameters-manager's palette.

Isn't there a way to show your environment map directly on your model? It's pretty tough to show a chrome-like material if it just shows up a solid color in the viewport.
I did some searches, but must be searching for the wrong things because the only thing I could find was how to show the environment in the Background of the viewport, but nothing about on the model/material.

I've been working on converting a VBA macro to an Add-In (my first). I thought all was going well, but I'm struggling to share the InventorApplication object within my add-in...
All the googling I've done suggests the most suitable way is to declare it as a global variable. So I followed the work flow on this page:
([URL]......) and created a module to declare my global variables. I've then referenced this module back in the original class, but when I do, I get a message saying "modDeclarations is a type and cannot be used as an expression"..
So here's what I've got:

I was wondering if there is any way to dump out all system variables with current value in a text file. One way would be to have the variable names already preset in a list of strings then extract them. But is there any other faster way? I need to compare some drawings side by side.

I have several variables I want to be able to set and then use throughout my project.
First, and seems simplest, would be to just Public Shared the variables. Set them as required, call them when needed.
Second would be to create an object and assign the variables as properties to that object. It would take more programming to do this option. The beauty of this would be that I could store the values from drawing session to drawing session and would not have to ask the user for the values every time he starts my program. Can this be a custom dictionary object? Is that how you would design it?
Unless there is a way to make my Public Shared variables hold their values when the drawing is closed. Static doesn't seem to work here, but I could be missing something.

When you select a linked image on the artboard you should have the option to " Create a Linked File variable: Select a linked file and click the Make Object Dynamic button in the Variables panel." That is right out of the Adobe Illustrator reference. When I select linked files the button to make object dynamic is greyed out.I see no other way to continue(CS6) also reading about similar problems in (CS5).

It's always low and there are no apparent way to make it use the full resolution. I love the renderer, but this little thing is very annoying. I have to composite multiple layers every time I need an image background in the environment.
Apparently there was a hack of sorts involved to force it to use less the full resolution I found on Youtube, but it really doesn't apply to me as I do want to use the full resolution. There should be an obvious setting for it somewhere, maybe in the render tab of the render dialog.

I've currently got a daylight system in place with an "mr physical sky" shader, but I've also got a 360° sky panorama with clouds.
Is there anyway of getting them both working together? I've set the sun so it appears in the right place in my scene, but the sky is too empty. Putting the Sky panorama blocks the sun. I've tried putting the map on a Geosphere with a circular UVW map modifier and have tried adjusting the opacity but I can't work it out.

It's best to close all images you have open in Gimp.
[*:261ukphj] Click Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Patterns and find the Stone pattern. Right-click the Stone pattern and Open Pattern as Image. Close the Patterns dialog.
About the Stone pattern: You do not have to use a pattern for this. I chose the Stone pattern because it is bundled with GIMP and everyone has it in their patterns. You can use any pattern or any image that isn't a pattern. This tutorial is just to show you how to make the text and you can choose any image or pattern to use as the environment map. Open whatever you want to use before creating a new image for the text.
[*:261ukphj] Open a new image, 500 x 400, and name the Background layer, bump.
Fill the bump layer with white.
[*:261ukphj] Select your Text tool. I used Sans Bold Italic at size 155 for this tutorial. Any font will do - a moderately heavy one works best.
[*:261ukphj] Click the image window and in the Text dialog type GIMP or whatever you want.
[code]......
Note about the Lighting Effects plug-in. If you use it more than one time and try a different pattern in the current GIMP session you will very likely get an Error message. It doesn't understand what you did with the first pattern you used. Click the OK button to get rid of it.

Using the VB.NET example code on exchange.autodesk.com for Defining a User Coordinate System, I pretty much copy and pasted the code to suit my needs. While the example shows how to create a UCS origin, X Axis and Y Axis from scratch, I am attempting to simply cast the values from the system variables UCSORG, UCSXDIR and UCSYDIR. These system variables are read only, and when looking into the types, I believe they are all 3D Point type values.
I'm experiencing errors when trying to run the following code, and it's making me wonder whether what I'm attempting to do is possible. The JIT Debugger is pointing out a System.InvalidCastException. Is there a problem with setting a Point3D value (from the system variable) to a Vector3D type (which is required for defining a new ucs)?
Public Sub saveCurrentUcs()
'get the current document and database
Dim acDoc As Document = Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument
Dim acCurDb As Database = acDoc.Database
[Code]....

We have six CAD machines in our office (not including several versions of LT), and only one machine "AutoCAD 2013" is having this issue:
ATTREQ & ATTMODE keep changing to undesirable values.
We generally use "ATTREQ 0" and "ATTMODE 1" and NEVER change these except "ATTREQ" gets changed in some LISP routines depending on the insert, but "ATTMODE" had to be looked up because we never change it from 1.
I know that there is no reference to ATTMODE anywhere in our customizations.
Does AutoCAD try to manage these system variables? Is there anything else that I can check to stop this?

Regarding the conversion of an excel sheet into Illustrator variables... I am able to import an excel sheet into Illustrator datasets. I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

I have an XML file containing a number of data-sets each consisting of a number of text variables which I want to use to create a deck of trading cards. Each trading card consists of a Text Field for the title of the card and a number of icons, which are instances of various Symbols
I have written a script to create each card and i can load the variables into my javascript using: newCard.importVariables(new File(xmlPath));I now need to access the data in the datasets in order to populate the card.
To provide some context, this is an image of one of the cards with placeholder art.

While Smart Collections are an amazing workflow tool they can also be a bit lacking in the available selection criteria. For instance, there is a fairly small subset of metadata categories that can be built into a query. I would like to create Smart Collections based on other metadata entries but cannot under the current structure. Is there any limitation to having future versions allow access to all available metadata fields in the Smart Collection queries?

If it is possible to see in Photoshop what an image will look like when it is out in the un-colour managed world?I can see how you can do it if you are saving for web because you can preview it in a browser, but is it possible to do this with TIFs and PSDss ?
I have a wide color gamut display and even with it set to sRGB color mode emulation, sRGB tagged images that look correctly saturated in Photoshop look over saturated once out of it and in an uncolour managed environment - particularly the reds. If I can replicate this environment in PS I can edit the colors to make them more neutral looking.
