Lightroom :: Settings Are Not Carried Over To Photoshop CS5?

Apr 22, 2012

When opening a raw and unedited file using the 'Edit in Photoshop' menu selection in Lightroom 4 the image opens as expected in Photoshop CS5. The images seem to look identical to me. If I then exit from PS without doing anything to the photo I am prompted to save the file. I do so and return to LR4. Comparing the original raw file and the tif created by PS they appear to be identical.

Next, I make some whitebalance, exposure, and cropping changes to the raw image in LR4. 'Edit in Photoshop' opens the image in PS CS5 but the image appears different. Cropping is there but other adjustements seem to me to be lost. Again clost the image without any editing in PS CS5 and am prompted to save the file. I do so and the saved tif appears in LR4 just as it looked in PS CS5. However they are different.

 I'm using a Windows 7 64  bit computer.

Lightroom :: Does LR4 Initially Preview At Specific Settings / Change To Individual Image Settings

May 2, 2012

I’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow.  I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.

Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings?  Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to.  My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop.  I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.

Lightroom :: Should It Import Settings From Disk Or Overwrite Disk Settings From The Catalog

Mar 31, 2011

When the 'up' arrow appears in a thumbnail and comes up with the message:

The metadata for one or more of these photos has been changed by another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?

What exactly does that mean?  This seems to happen every time I export an image to PS (CS5) and return to LR.  What exactly has changed?  What settings are being imported if I choose 'import settings from disk'.

Lightroom :: Basic Settings Are Changed In LR4 When Saving From Photoshop CS6?

Oct 18, 2012

I am using LR4 and Photoshop CS6.  What has recently started happening is when I send an image from LR to CS6 and then save the image I reopen the image in LR and find that all of the basic settings have been changed.

I am referring to the Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks.  Even if I send the image to CS6 and make no changes, only chosing to save the image before closing, when I reopen it in LR it appears blown out because of the changes in these settings.  I there a setting in preferences or somewhere that could have somehow been changed and causing this?  Have updated both programs so am using the most recent versions.

It seems that when I open the image back up in LR it is way overexposed, however if I send it back to Photoshop the image is appears to be exposed properly like when I saved it.

Photoshop :: Color Settings Grayed Out In Print Settings

Feb 23, 2012

Photoshop CS5 v12.1.
Mac OS 10.6.
I'm printing to an Epson R1800 printer.

Print. Choose Color Management. Choose Document. Choose "Photoshop manages color". Choose the correct printer profile that matches the paper I'm using. Choose Relative Colorimetric.

THEN, I click Print Settings...under the 4th drop downu I choose "Print setting..." again. Under "Basic" "color" and "Color settings" are grayed out as are some of the "Media Type" options.

Is this normal? The problem is my black and white prints are printing really badly. They have color tones. I've cleaned the nozzles on my Epson printer, done everything the print utility suggests. All the test prints look fine.

Lightroom :: Why Do JPEG Files With Develop Settings Open In Photoshop Camera Raw

Dec 10, 2012

Why does an image that has been altered by Lightroom cause the RAW Converter to open when trying to view it in Photoshop. Perhaps this might work; if I import, enhance and convert a RAW image in Lightroom to a jepg image it will open in Photoshop without issue. However if I then alter the jpeg image in Lightroom, update the Metadata and try to view it in Photoshop it cause the Photoshop's RAW Converter to open. Is the alter image's information held in a side car file (xmp) that can'r be read by Photoshop? If so would I need to re-export, (convert), the image again in Lightroom to embedd the changes thus making sure it could be read by all the various programs that are available to view images. As is I send photographs to newspapers and print houses it is important for me to know if they would be receiving fully adjusted images or only the adjustments that were made prior to converting from RAW to jpeg. Just in case...I am new to Lightroom.

Photoshop :: Adobe Settings Vs Printer Settings

May 7, 2005

i recieved a prom pic from my daughter and i was going to print it and frame it, but 2 things happend.

The first one was that when i tried to print it it said it was tooooooo big 40inx60in so i resized it to 8.5x11 and it got very blurry, after about an hour i figured out how to get it sharp again (by accident) and forgot how i did it DOH!!! It was some kind of compairson with 4 of the same photo and resizeing the file from 9.5M to about 400kb and actualy adding some blur.

The next problem is when i printed it, it was so washed out it looked like an old 70's poloroid but on screen it looks great. Now I've read the color settings section but i think i might have set some settings wrong [U]and i don't think i fully understand what i'm reading . I know there are settings to either let photoshop take care of the printing or let the printer.Personaly i think i would like to let photoshop do it that way any email's or photo's i shoot will have a common baseline. The printer i'm using is an hp psc 2410 and the camera is a minolta dimage7i, is this a good camera / printer. I'm in adobe rgb(1998) mode and i think i saw somwhere in the printer software to choose between adobe rgb or the hp printer.Do these have to match.

Put simply how can i print it the way i see it on screen

I know ....long winded but i try to give all the info i can

software: adobe photoshop cs2
Card: nvidia geforce ti 4600
crt: compaq mv 940 17in regular screen 1024x768
Printer HP psc 2410
Camera: Minolta Dimage 7i

Lightroom :: Do 3.5 develop Settings (XMP) Transfer To 4?

Nov 24, 2012

I subcontract a lot of event work. I'm still using an older MBP which is 32bit so I can't upgrade to LR4 yet which requires a 64bit processor.

The studio that contracts me is running LR4 and they don't seem to think that the develop settings I make in LR3.5 are transferring to LR4. Is this possible?

I'm thinking an easy work-around would be to export all the files as DNGs? This would automatically include all changes that I make wouldn't it?

Lightroom :: Moving Settings For 5.2 To A New Computer?

Sep 24, 2013

My computer HDD died :-(   Luckily, I have made full HDD backups quite regularly and haven't really lost anything.

However, I'm making a clean install of everything to get a fresh start.  Over the years, I have built up quite a large set of LR Develop and Export presets along with several custom lens profiles and camera colour calibrations.  Having started from LR2 then upgraded 'in place' over the years, I have a feeling the files for all these might be scattered all over the place on my Windows 7 installation/appdata files.

Apart from the obvious catalog file, where else should I be looking to get my fresh LR5.2 installation looking like it used to with a full recovery of all my various profiles and presets?

I think I found a few in my backed up %appdata% files but there is so much in there, I don't know what is essential and what is just 'junk' from older versions.

Lightroom :: Export Keyword Tag Settings?

May 10, 2013

I've built up an extensive heirarchial keyword list in one of my catalogs.  I want to export that list to use in other catalogs.  I see how you export the keyword list and I get a text file, however, settings applied to each keyword doesn't seem to get exported (i.e. the settings for "Include on Export", "Export Containing Keywords" and "Export Synonyms").  I spent a lot of time building the list such that only the leaf-level keywords get exported to my image.  However, when I export my keyword list from one catalog and import it into a new catalog, those settings are lost.  Is there a way to export those settings as well?  I could create keyword sets, but that would be another time consuming endeavour.

Later copied the .xmp files out of the Export and and pasted them into the main folder of the cr2 files.

When I opened LR again, there was a prompt and I messed with it. The result now is that the developed settings are the defaults instead of the unedited/tweaked photos.

Lightroom :: Change Printer Settings Without Printing?

Sep 28, 2013

To create a new template one has to go through the "Printer..." dialog to change the paper size. Unfortunately, the only way to actually SAVE the new settings is to click OK, which causes Lightroom to print the current image.  In all other programs, the "Printer..." dialog is used only to adjust settings.  In Lightroom it seems to serve as a "Print" dialog as well.  On Windows this violates long-standing UI function guidelines embodied by pretty much all other software.

A concrete example:

I needed to create a new template to print on 8-1/2 x 11 paper.  To do so, I created a new template while in an existing template for 8x10. This copies the settings to the new template, but one cannot adjust the cell size to anything larger than 8x10.  So I went to the "Printer...:" dialog to change the paper size.  However, when clicking OK on the "Printer..." dialog, to save the new paper size, Lightroom starts printing the current image.

What should happen is that the settings are saved and no printing starts.  Printing should occur only when I click on "Print".

Unless I've missed something and there's a way to change paper size, color profile, paper type, etc. (all the things you can change on the printer driver's dialog) from within Lightroom without invoking "Printer..."?
