View 2 Replies View RelatedI never used DNG before and wanted to know if there are any benefits of converting my CR2 (Canon) into DNG? I also don't quite understand what settings should I use when converting?
View 36 Replies View RelatedI am a professional photographer, and I am perfectly happy with my CS2 version of Photoshop, as I can get it to do everything I need, without spending another $600 on the newest version.
Unfortunately the new camera I purchased needs either CS6, or Lightroom 4-5 to process the RAW files. Can I simply purchase Lightroom and use it as a stand alone product, then save the file as a tiff to further work on it in my CS2?
I convert all my raw files to DNG files when I import my files in Lightroom. when I exported it as a TIFF to Photoshop CS5 and reimport it in Lightroom 3 the file is in the Library but not in the Develop module. I have to shutdown Lightroom and reopen it to see the TIFF file in the Develop Module. It's getting old.
The problem appeared when I updated to version 3.
Adobe support was nice but said they could not reproduce the problem thus no problem. The problem does exist under Windows 7 64bit or Apple systems.
I think older versions of the Adobe DNG Converter allowed you to convert jpg files to dng.The current version will only convert raw files to dng.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI've done a lot of field work with a Canon G9, and it would be extremely useful to have a lens profile, but I operate the camera remotely, and in this mode, it only shoots jpegs. I have 3 questions:
1) Is there a G9 lens profile for jpeg?
2) Is it possible to convert my jpegs to RAW?
3) Would it be possible to use an existing G9 lens profile (RAW) on images converted from jpeg, or would that be futile?
in my catalog i got lots of photos ,edited with ACR 2003 2010. how can i update all my photo to 2012 without loosing my settings?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to import photos (from several card readers or straight from hard disk) by convertting them to DNG files I only get few of them to Lightroom library. Last time I tested I got 2 out of 16 to library, in Finder I can find all 16 of converted files. I'm using Mountain Lion Os X version 10.8.2, and Lightroom 4.3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of old pictures that I no longer want to keep the DNG (converted from NEF) files for. I'd rather have a JPG (or a DNG that does not contain RAW data, leaving only JPG) for purposes of saving space. Is there a way I can do this with only a few button clicks on a large swath of my library?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Canon 6D with built-in GPS. Importing the photos into Lightroom brings in the GPS data automatically, but it doesn't bring in the GPS "log." The "log" is the actual path you've walked (or hiked or biked or driven) while the GPS receiver is on. In Aperture (or Canon software or some others), you can directly import the ".log" file into the program. Seeing your path in a new city (or whatever) is fun. Lightroom appears to only accept .gpx files.
I've found a simple piece of software that converts .log files to .gpx. (It's called HoudahGPS.) But is there an easier or better way to do this? I'm not looking to add steps to my workflow!!
Somehow I hit the "V" and it is converting all my pictures to black and white. How to I cancel that action?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a search and couldn't find this issue listed. I convert my Nikon D90 raw files to DNG. Never seem to have a problem with that except that the display(s) seldom shows the results of applying Noise Reduction (Color or Luminance). If my display is at Fit or Fill I don't see the results of what I am doing. If I zoom in to 1:1 or more, then I can see the results. All works fine if I am using a jpg file, it is just the DNG files that do this.
If I want to see the entire picture with Noise Reduction applied I have to switch to the Library Module. Then when I go back to the Develop module the main display goes back to not showing the Noise Reduction, but the secondary display is ok until I apply another effect then boom, back to Noise Reduction not displaying. All of the other changes I make work just fine. It is just the Noise Reduction that causes the problem. This is really a killer when I am working on photos. This problem existsed before 3.6. When I switch to the Library Module it takes a few seconds before the secondary display shows the photo with the Noise Reduction applied.
I have a quad core 2.4ghz with 8gig of ram and Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS. Plenty of CPU and memory available.
I've been trying since yesterday to complete the install of Lightroom 5 - upgrade from LR4.3. Each time it begins to convert one of my catalogs it simply stops progressing bout 1/2 way. I've waited overnight and tried two other catalogs. My drive has 80 GB free and I'm running 64-bit system with 16GB ram and 8 processors. LR4.3 has been running fine...

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Lightroom catalog contains a lot of PSD files (created in old versions of Photoshop, before TIFF was the default save format). They have layers. I want to convert these PSDs to TIFFs -- ideally TIFF+ZIP compression, since that seems to reduce the file size pretty significantly.
Is there any way to automate this? My current workflow goes like this: Open a PSD in PhotoshopFile > Save As, choose TIFF+ZIPDelete the PSD file.Lightroom detects the file is missing. Choose Locate on the file, select the .TIF version of the file, click OK.Click Confirm when prompted that the filenames don't match. Now I have a .TIF original in my catalog. This process requires a lot of manual effort. I can (kind of) automate the PSD > TIF conversion using Photoshop's Image Processor, but: Image Processor only allows LZW compression, not ZIP.After I delete the .PSD, Lightroom requires me to browse for each missing file and "Locate" it individually -- I can't do this with several files at once.
Other stuff I tried: Lightroom's Convert to DNG feature. This discards the layer information from my PSDs, so it won't work.Lightroom's Rename function. I thought I could rename the .PSD files to .TIF before converting them, thus saving the manual step of having to use "Locate" on each file. But Lightroom will not rename files to a different file extension, so this fails.Lightroom's Export feature with "Add to catalog" enabled. This is not what I want either, because it exports a file with LR edits applied. I want to replace the original file with a different format, while retaining all its LR metadata and edits in the catalog.
I had 9875 photos that I wanted to convert to the latest DNG format and also include lossless compression and embed fast load information.
I marked all photos and selected 'Convert photos to DNG' from the library menu.
Days went by and the convertion worked almost perfectly.
30 photos can not be converted but Lightroom does not tell me why. Some photos are copies of others and the originals has been converted without problems.
How do I convert Tiff's to Jpeg's in Lightroom so I can then upload them to SmugMug?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to 3.6 and the import process is now torturously slow. LR 3.6, Windows 7, 9GB RAM. I convert RAW files to DNG on import and save to a network NAS with a direct wired connection. They are large RAW Files (23-30mb) but imports before the upgrade proceeded normally. It now takes about 10 minutes per file... I'm fairly sure that the upgrade is the only change I've made. The import has taken well over three hours -- there's obviously a wrench in the works somewhere.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm noticing that when I convert a RAW file (NEF for Nikon) in LR4.3 to a JPG, it doesn't contain the number of shutter actuations. For that, I need to use ViewNX. Is there anyway to preserve/extract this bit of EXIF information in Lightroom 4.3?
I'm seeing this EXIF plugin that might do the trick...?[UR]...
My images are stored as:-
D:Main Imagesyearmonthdayfile name
Also on D: is D:DataMy Catalog 7catalog.pse7db, D:DataMy Catalog 7 humbe.5.cache and D:DataMy Catalog 7itemData.mk4 with other 1KB files; these are pointed there using Elements 7 options.
The pc runs Elements 7 with all images tagged in Organizer.
D: is a separate physical 1TB drive. D: is backed up to a USB drive; this backup drive (500GB) is now almost full (it also backs up other machines drives) hence why I will use the current 1TB image drive as backup and retire/reuse the 500GB drive.
I now have a new 64 bit pc with its own 1TB drive, on which I would like to run Lightroom 4 with Elements 10 for additional editing. I would like to store the both Main Images currently on D: drive in C:UsersMeMy Pictures on the new machine. The 1TB drive from the old machine is now in a USB housing and will act as the onsite backup for all the images and image data and other machines drives.
I have all my images tagged in Elements 7. Can Lightroom read/use these tags?
If so what is the best way to get my images and their tags into C:UsersMeMy Pictures and Lightroom?
Does Lightroom allow you to convert cr2 files to JPEG? If so how do you do this? are othere adobe products able to accomplish this as well?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy old photos do not have the Lightroom 4 new sliders in the Develop Module.
Lightroom 4 sliders are accessible on newly imported photos but not my old photos in my Lightroom Cataoge. So I have a mixed Lightroom 3 & 4 Catalog.
How can I convert all my catalog to Lightroom 4 format?
I recently upgraded from LR2 to LR3. I was not prompted to convert my catalogues even though I have read I should have been. Now what? I have two programs on my computer. I want all catalogues in the new LR3 program.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuppose I have an image in Lightroom. I export it to Photoshop for editing. During the editing process I convert the image to Lab color space. I complete the edit and then save the file. It goes back to Lightroom. Is it converted back into RGB at that point? Is there a problem with doing this? I'd rather not do any more color space shifting than I absolutely need to.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI edited my CR2 pictures in Lightroom. After converting to any format the colors were colder than in original image. I opened it in Photoshop, Irfanview and Firefox. In Lightroom the image looked same as original. Both Lightroom and Photoshop are using ProPhoto RGB. I tried converting to different color spaces with no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI mostly shoot in RAW + JPEG and when importing my catalog I converted RAWs to DNG. However, I have on some occaisions had to shoot JPEG only and I'd like all my masters to be stored as DNG. The only option to convert JPEGs to DNG that I can find is via Export. I presume if I used this I'd have to export them all then delete the JPEG masters from my catalog before importing the DNGs.
I take it converting JPEG to DNG is lossless?
I have tons of Jpeg I need to import to Lightroom. How can I set it to convert the images to Tiff while importing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have LR 4.4 running on a Win 7 64 bit PC...
I selected 4 RAW files (CR2) to convert to DNG via the Library modules 'convert to DNG' and then delete the CR2 file.
It converted only the last of the 4 files and left the other 3 untouched as CR2 files. Can LR not batch convert the RAW files in this manner??
I've been using LR since it was first available and for raw files I import using "Convert to DNG, rename and make a copy to a second drive". Looking back throught the folders on the second drive I found that a lot of files over the last year or so have been renamed but not converted to DNG.
I'm running Win 7 64bit and LR4.4 on a PC.
