I never used DNG before and wanted to know if there are any benefits of converting my CR2 (Canon) into DNG? I also don't quite understand what settings should I use when converting?
View 36 RepliesIn the last three days, I lost hundreds of treatments. The photos from my folder disappeared with no reason.I have to import them again (they are on the hard drive) and work again on treatments.
I am using LR for years and it is the first time that it happens.
I'm just curious why Bridge would default to Fireworks for PNG files? I pretty much use PS exclusively for my image work and I'm not up to speed on FW at all. Is there something FW offers that I'm missing out on?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOpening a 640x480 8 bit .psd file stored on a local machine is taking 30 seconds or more...unless I unplug the network cable. Then it opens instantaneously. It can be any file; I've tested more than one.
While I'm waiting for the file to be opened, I can see short bursts of outbound network activity.
I put text on an image and for no apparent reason, GIMP condenses it (or at least displays it as if it's condensed) no matter what font I use. I can change everything else about the font, including kerning, but the letters stay narrow. This happens even with fonts that don't have a condensed variant.Plus, GIMP gets really slow. Normally it works at a tolerable speed but when it does the condensing letters thing it acts like I have a bunch of applications running, regardless of whether I have anything else open.
This is the second time GIMP has done this. The first time was a few months ago. I think it cleared up after a few days without any action on my part. But it is extremely irritating.
I took screenshots of various fonts. I didn't insert any line breaks. GIMP is wrapping text as if the fonts are the normal width, so I'm guessing it is mostly a display issue.
I’m currently having a serious problem with my Photoshop CS4 where it continuously crashes, for no apparent reason, since July 16, 2013. I have done everything recommended via Adobe forum to try and fix this problem though it still persists. It crashes randomly and I am usually unable to use Photoshop for more than 20 minutes. I have the testversion and i do some tests with Digital noise removal and a 10 megapixel Image and 0.3 megapixel image.
On my system, it happen that Paint shop wait around 4 sec and do nothing.then it begin to calculate and progress requester is show for around 1.5 sec
Can see when switch in task manager the CPU load refresh to high(4* /sec seem value update).when i choose a setting or i change a value it take always 4 sec until CPU load increase from idle % to full load.
I have also written a Bug report and suggest that Paint shop begin calc as soon as possible, and stop if a value is change and calc again soon as possible with new value.So all can work lots faster.currently i get no response.
The Smart Photo Fix, too have a delay before calc.It is 1 sec.I test with a 320*250 Pixel image (0.3 megapixel), here the additional delays are too in.
In the feature list X4 stand that it can use GFX Card to be faster.I have a gforce 6600 with older pixelshader.So i guess X4 use no GFX card.The render speed of all effects i think good, but the wait time make the usage of this program not fun. I think the X4 Version is great, very good denoise sharp and enhance photo functions.
In one of the columns, for different parts I have value *Varies* displayed instead of iproperty value that other parts display. Why?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThey were working correctly yesterday, and now the presence of any extension, including 'Adobe Exchange,' will cause the entire application to hang once they are selected from their panel. This seems to be the case for any/all extensions (at least the ones I use). Once I remove them all, the stock tools on the right-hand panel work correctly. However, adding back any of them means that using the panel will crash the application - whether it is selecting an extension or using a built-in feature like "Adjustments" or "3D".
Curiously, when an extension is added to the panel (assuming I don't click on it and crash PS) and I close the application like normal, Photoshop also hangs on exit, forcing me to 'force quit' it. I am not sure how that is related, but there seems to be some kind of correlation.
I'm on an early-2011 macbook pro, 8gb of ram, Radeon 6750M with 1gb of video ram, loads of disk space.
I dont know if this is just me but whenever i try to create and work with a 3D object in Photoshop, this black square seems to pop up for no apparent reason and its really bugging me [mainly because it sometimes blocks my view of the perspective].
View 1 Replies View Relatedpolylines in my current drawing have started to come out with a very fat line width. It doesnt matter what layer its on, even though previously they were drawn 'properly' i.e the thin line width that shows when you have show/hide lineweight on 'hide'. This doesnt happen on any other drawing tool (arc, circle, polygon etc). The lineweights in layer control are all 'default'. I can't explain this as it seems to have just happened. Is it a known bug or something?

I have gone through all the settings i could find between my two files and made them identical, it still happens. When i paste the logo into the same file it was created in it pastes correctly.
View 20 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I am having problems exporting .CDR's to .JPG - I am using a custom page layout, 12x10" in landscape and have basically created 4 images with a 1" border around them by means of setting the page background to a plain colour and importing a .JPG to the desired size. This worked fine for two of my images, but, for some reason the other 2 images will not save as a 12 x 10 sized image, which means the 'border' is cropped on the two sides.
It's hair pulling out time for me as I have done the same process for two of the prints, but the other two will not stop cropping themselves in the export process.
I just converted a PDF file from a DWF file (from AutoCAD 2012). I also needed to print the PDF; unfortunatley, the PDF is taking forever to print.
This is what I did.
-I went under Plot-Model
-Under the Printer/plotter, I clicked DWG to PDF.pc3 and click on Properties
-Click under the Device and Document Settings tab
-Click on Custom Properties
-Click on Custom Properties buttom
-Under the DWG to PDF PRoperties table, I click on Capture all under Font Handling
-I uncheck Include Layer information under Additonal Output Setting
-I click ok
When I begin to plot under Batch Plot, I also went and click on Publish Options, and on that table under Layer information, I click on Don't include.
For some reason, it's printing very slow. I don't know what other option I have in order the print faster.

I have an AutoLISP program that hangs up for no apparent reason. I can run the program with an Alert in the loop. The program is a sheet generator, creating a border (insert with attributes), dimensions and MultiLeaders in Model Space, then a new Layout Tab is generated and the new elements are CHSPACEd into the new layout. An Alert temporarily halts the program once the task of a new Layout is created. In this form, the program works as designed. However, if I comment out the Alert, the program hangs up as if in an infinite loop. Also, hitting Escape does not cancel the AutoLISP, I must use Task Manager to end AutoCAD instead. My computer was recently upgraded to Win7 64-bit. I'm running 64-bit versions of software. (AutoCAD MAP 2011).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a professional photographer, and I am perfectly happy with my CS2 version of Photoshop, as I can get it to do everything I need, without spending another $600 on the newest version.
Unfortunately the new camera I purchased needs either CS6, or Lightroom 4-5 to process the RAW files. Can I simply purchase Lightroom and use it as a stand alone product, then save the file as a tiff to further work on it in my CS2?
I convert all my raw files to DNG files when I import my files in Lightroom. when I exported it as a TIFF to Photoshop CS5 and reimport it in Lightroom 3 the file is in the Library but not in the Develop module. I have to shutdown Lightroom and reopen it to see the TIFF file in the Develop Module. It's getting old.
The problem appeared when I updated to version 3.
Adobe support was nice but said they could not reproduce the problem thus no problem. The problem does exist under Windows 7 64bit or Apple systems.
I think older versions of the Adobe DNG Converter allowed you to convert jpg files to dng.The current version will only convert raw files to dng.

1) Is there a G9 lens profile for jpeg?
2) Is it possible to convert my jpegs to RAW?
3) Would it be possible to use an existing G9 lens profile (RAW) on images converted from jpeg, or would that be futile?
in my catalog i got lots of photos ,edited with ACR 2003 2010. how can i update all my photo to 2012 without loosing my settings?

Last time I tested I got 2 out of 16 to library, in Finder I can find all 16 of converted files. I'm using Mountain Lion Os X version 10.8.2, and Lightroom 4.3.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Canon 6D with built-in GPS. Importing the photos into Lightroom brings in the GPS data automatically, but it doesn't bring in the GPS "log." The "log" is the actual path you've walked (or hiked or biked or driven) while the GPS receiver is on. In Aperture (or Canon software or some others), you can directly import the ".log" file into the program. Seeing your path in a new city (or whatever) is fun. Lightroom appears to only accept .gpx files.
I've found a simple piece of software that converts .log files to .gpx. (It's called HoudahGPS.) But is there an easier or better way to do this? I'm not looking to add steps to my workflow!!
Somehow I hit the "V" and it is converting all my pictures to black and white. How to I cancel that action?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a search and couldn't find this issue listed. I convert my Nikon D90 raw files to DNG. Never seem to have a problem with that except that the display(s) seldom shows the results of applying Noise Reduction (Color or Luminance). If my display is at Fit or Fill I don't see the results of what I am doing. If I zoom in to 1:1 or more, then I can see the results. All works fine if I am using a jpg file, it is just the DNG files that do this.
If I want to see the entire picture with Noise Reduction applied I have to switch to the Library Module. Then when I go back to the Develop module the main display goes back to not showing the Noise Reduction, but the secondary display is ok until I apply another effect then boom, back to Noise Reduction not displaying. All of the other changes I make work just fine. It is just the Noise Reduction that causes the problem. This is really a killer when I am working on photos. This problem existsed before 3.6. When I switch to the Library Module it takes a few seconds before the secondary display shows the photo with the Noise Reduction applied.
I have a quad core 2.4ghz with 8gig of ram and Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS. Plenty of CPU and memory available.
I've been trying since yesterday to complete the install of Lightroom 5 - upgrade from LR4.3. Each time it begins to convert one of my catalogs it simply stops progressing bout 1/2 way. I've waited overnight and tried two other catalogs. My drive has 80 GB free and I'm running 64-bit system with 16GB ram and 8 processors. LR4.3 has been running fine...
