Lightroom :: 5 - Convert Canon GPS Data To GPX?
Feb 23, 2014
I have a Canon 6D with built-in GPS. Importing the photos into Lightroom brings in the GPS data automatically, but it doesn't bring in the GPS "log." The "log" is the actual path you've walked (or hiked or biked or driven) while the GPS receiver is on. In Aperture (or Canon software or some others), you can directly import the ".log" file into the program. Seeing your path in a new city (or whatever) is fun. Lightroom appears to only accept .gpx files.
I've found a simple piece of software that converts .log files to .gpx. (It's called HoudahGPS.) But is there an easier or better way to do this? I'm not looking to add steps to my workflow!!

We sailed a ferry in North-West (US to Canada) and the GPS should better show the same elevation than: Its the waterline + elevation of the passenger deck.
Instead, LR displays a different elevation with every image, ranging from +9 feet to... -300 feet, and trust me, we did not turned into a submarine

I am having a strange issue with LR 5.3 however this issue could have been here before and I never noticed. Over the years I have been using the gps4cam app on either my iPhone or Android phone to track GPS data. For the most part I have never had serious issues with the data and the tracking results. I was away a few weeks ago shooting images and using gps4cam and have found some strange behavior in LR after reviewing images.
All images shot with my Canon 5D MK III and then tagged with gps4cam work perfectly in Lightroom both in showing the data and displaying fairly accurately in the Maps module. However images shot on my Canon EOS-M and tagged with the same GPS data either don't show the data (almost like it doesn't exist) at all in LR 5.3 or are completely off when viewed on maps. If I open these same images in Geosetter, they show accurate position and location on the maps.
I don't do a lot of Geotagging of my images except when I travel and didn't want to have to buy the Canon GPS Device.

I received files from a freelance designer in Illustrator CS5 format, but my company only has CS4. Although she saved the files for CS4, I still have problems with data loss, for example all the text is broken up into separate text blocks, the layers are lost, the items are all in a clipping masks, objects are randomly grouped together, etc. is there any way to convert the file without data loss?

I have 200,000 lines with some object data. LINKED to these lines is a database with some more information. Basically I want to export all of these lines to shape files, converting the information in the linked database to be the new object data. (This is for the client to view the lines on ArcGIS).
I have done this a few times in the past, but working with this volume of lines and data, Its taking an extremely long time.
My question is, could i use autolisp to quickly transfer the database data to object data before i export to shape files? or if there are any other options.

I have MAP3d 2014 drawings with object data attached. I also need to be able to see the data as text. In map 3d it is a straightforward exercise. I go to task pane> Data> add drawing layer..I select the layer I want data to display and I select the object properties, change the TextLabel into the required field and I have readable on the screen text.. However this text does not behave like text at all..If I edit it, it disappears or reverts back to the original text. When I open in normal CAD of course it is not readable...
How can I convert this MAP3D data label text into an AutoCad, editable text for everyone to see and edit.

I am currently trying to make my AutoCad more powerful as a tool of Engineer but not Draftmen (My boss never thing about it, I could only get a standard AutoCAD, not AutoCAD-EMP).
I want to make it a tool for myself to analysis the building system, with excel (and VBA)
The first tool I wanted to create is an underground drainage capacity analysis tool. But I meet the first difficulty, how can I automatically transfer the information inside CAD drawing to the excel?
Say, There is a drainage system with 2 manhole and 1 pipe,
the Manhole have 3 attribute : Name, Model, Level, (and the X-Y coordination),
I Create a Block with attribute "Name ; Model ; Level".
and then I insert the Blocks and place it in correct location inside the Layout Plan.
How can I create some script to "Scan" all Block inside the drawing and make an excel file with data like:
Block-Serial, X-Coor, Y-Coor, Rotated Angle, Name, Model, Level.

In autocad 2013 is the best way still to convert data you have connected to, for example a shape file, as feature data in order to convert that into polylines and text is the best method saving it all as a seperate drawing using the "save as autocad drawing command"? Is there way to do it individually in the current drawing so that I do not always have to be saving things out as seperate drawings and then copy and pasting them back into my working drawing?

Problem: Connects and works once in 30 or 40 tries. Sometimes shows the camera connection and sometimes it will not. Have changed cables, wiggled cables, used different USB ports, and anything else I could think of to do. When it works, the Tethered Capture window does show all the pertinent info and the shutter release button works. Most of the time, it will at least recognize the camera, but none of the settings and will not download to the computer/Lightroom (as seen below). The camera will shoot and record the image to the internal card... just not to the computer/Lightroom.
I have since run maintenance programs, rebooted, changed to 32 bit, etc......
Equipment: Mac 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10/7.2 using Lightroom 3 (with all updates including Camera Raw), 4 gigs ram, 500 gig hard drive, with 200 gigs open.

I am testing the trial version of Lightroom 5.2. My new camera is a Canon EOS 70D. When importing RAW files into Lightroom the colors of some photos are wrong. RAWs from my older 450D are fine.
For example on one photo the sky isn't blue but turquoise. When using the DNG Converter I get the same color. The sky was blue though. When opening the file in Digital Photo Professional by Canon, the sky is blue as it should be.
It happens on some other photos as well. Mostly if they have a high blue content. If in Lightroom I increase the blue content and decrease the shades it almost looks as it should.

I have a doubt: when importing and converting from Canon RAW (CR2), extract Lightroom ALL COMPLETE information from the original file? I've observed that Canon RAW software display some information like the AF points that doesn't appear in LightRoom. I want to know about this question for better decide if i must convert to DNG and delete original CR2 or include the original RAW in the DNG file (duplicating his size)

first let me tell you that I'm familiar with LR concepts. I read a lot about RAW processing, color profiles and stuff. It all makes sense to me.
That having said... I'm unfortunatly quite unhappy with LR's color reproduction. It seems technically very accurate; unfortunatly -- Canon's own "Standard Picture Style" (so OOC JPEGs) are in most cases much nicer to look at, color-wise. I know it's not me alone having this feeling (just do a quick search).
Adobe provides look-alike profiles (.DCP-files) which are supposed to imitate Canon's Picture Styles. Unfortunatly none of these Adobe-profiles comes close (enough, IMHO) - most annoying thing for me is a strange blue/green cast in darker areas, e.g. shadows in daylight conditions are too bright and too blueish.
Remember, I'm using a EOS 50D (which probably won't get profile updates any more by Adobe, I suppose...)
So here's my question: Can I assume that Adobe already did the best they can to match Canon's Picture Style? ==> stop dreaming about a "better" "canon-50d-standard.dcp"-file. Take it or leave it, stop crying.
Or is there a possibility to tweak existing profiles? ==> find out how. Adobe's DCP editor, dcptool, whatever?
