Lightroom :: Change The Preview Setting After Import?
Aug 9, 2013how do I change the preview setting after import?
View 1 Replieshow do I change the preview setting after import?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to set up auto importing by tethered shooting with a Canon 1Ds (but don't think brand and camera matter.)
I never use DNG, and am not aware of, and after a lot of searching, cannot find anywhere in the LR4.3 preferences at which I specified DNG conversion. In the Auto0Import dialog there is a File-handling tab that offers one choice: how to spell the dng suffix. The files I want to import will come in as CR2., and testing this with other folder destinations and with Canon's EOS Utility prove that the camera is "sending" CR2 files.
During the import of RAW files of my Nikon D5100 no previews are shown, a thumpnail with the text "Preview not available" shows instead. Importing the RAW files is not a problem, once they are imported, the prevews are shown in the Library. I would like to make a first selection during import but without the previews this is not possible. I am working with Lightroom 3.6
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought Lightroom 5.2 but I'm not able to preview or import any files from my Synology NAS (4.3 software version) where I keep all my photos.
I see the filestructure and the files but I don't see a preview version of the file and when I import I get "The files appear to be unsupported or damaged".
When I look at files to import on the local harddrive, I see previews of the files so it seems to work there.
I have no problem displaying the NAS photos using OS X Finder. I assume there is some general setting that is wrong because out of 15000 photos I could not import any, only imported 5 short iPhone movies that accidently happened to be stored in the photo file structure.
I just duplicated a bunch keywords upon importing a month worth of photos from a remote project. I assume this is because LR has no idea how to handle them other than importing them in a flattened state. I suggest a checkbox that tells LR whether or not to look for an existing keyword of the same spelling in its structures before creating another one. If it then finds multiples, it would be easy enough for it to figure out the correct keyword based on context.
I have many nested keywords and have found the nesting to be pretty much useless in the real world, but it is a great organizational tool. It allows about the same grouping functionality as collections but without the messy accumulation of collection names that were only used once.
Where & how do you set the default import folder? The setting must be buried somewhere!
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason there was a setting to eject the flash memory card after an import was completed that seemed to disappear in my version 4 Lightroom. Where that feature setting is located?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I import photos the exposure and other settings are changed. I have resete every default setting I can find for any kind of preset.I tried to uninstall by dragging to the trash can (Mac OS) and reinstalled to try and clear the issue. Not sure this was the correct process as it didn't seem to wipe everything out. Don't know what setting got changed along the way. Just trying to get everything back to default so that my photos aren't arent manipulated before I can even get them to the develop module.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get 'preview unavailable for this file' when attempting to import files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC LX3 - even though the same images show up fine on import preview for Lightroom 3?
I have Lightroom 3 AND 4 on my machine at the minute, running OSX Lion on Mac, and if I have the same card in the same card reader - I see soem unimported file previews with 3, but not with 4! What the hell - older version seems to work better than the new one!!
So I want to import some pics and this statement comes up, " Preview unavailable for this file" see attached. I imported the pics once and then realized that I did not batch name them like I always do. So I deleted them from LR then renamed them in Bridge, then tried to important them again, it is a no go. So I have LR 4.1, I use Mac book pro, Mac os x version 10.7.4. I am pulling these pics off of my external Hard drive, I have never run into this problem before when I was using LR3.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI noted after importing my images from my disk f(to Lr5) that some floral images were missing.Luckily they were on my backup disk so i moved these floral images from my backup disk to the proper floral folder in my int. disk f. Now how do i import these new images that are located in their particular floral folder which are indeed there. Also how do you set up these new files to do a preview setup. did try to import these new images, but lightroom would not let me do it because it grayed out the images telling me that we noted some duplicate images here. Yes, i did see a few dups of these images in the floral file. If i deleted these dups under its proper folder in disk f shouldn't lr5 let me continue the import?

View 2 Replies View RelatedPreview works, but no Import from any SD or CF and even HD! Try internal and external card readers and create a new catalogue, no results. All files from cards or transfered to HD will open properly in PS!
LR 5.3; CR 8.3; PS 14.2
for some reason I get the message 'preview unavailable for this file' for about 50% of the photos in the import module of LR4.1. This only seems to be an issue upon import since the files still import as usual and I do not encounter any further issues after the import with developing etc. It's not a huge problem for me but still quite anoying as I am not able to review my photos before actually importing them.
Here are some further details:I am shooting with a Nikon D300s, all photos are in NEF-format, I use USB-mini USB connection between computer and camera. The problem occurs on both my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 and my iMac Mid-2010. The problem only occurs with LR4, I didn't have any problems with LR3.
Suddenly, I am getting the above message, when trying to import RAW files in LR 4.3. I tried with two different cards and two different Readers.
When I click on Import, I get a blank thumbnail of all the photos with the message in it. I was able to see the photos in Finder on the Compact Flash card with no problem.
I have LR and camera up to date for a while, so nothing different has been done that I know of.
I'm using LIghtroom 5.3, and raw camera 8.3, the latest update available. I found from Adobe's site that this version supports D7100 raw image imports. But when trying to import D7100 raw images, I get a message that "the file is not recognized by the raw format support in LIghtroom."

I just purchased a brand new NIKON D3300 took a few pictures, signed up for the Adobe annual Photographers Creative Cloud annual program and my first task to have Lightroom import a few test photos fails and I have no clue why my raw + jpgs can't be imported. at the outset In Lightroom I also got a "Preview unavailable for this file" message for every image file when I pointed to the memory card I had connected to my computer:
The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (35)

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's my understanding that a change made to a disconnected smart preview will automatically update the main database when connected to the drive containing the photo and database. Mine doesn't seem to work automatically. After reconnecting i have to save the metadata for the changed files on the version of Lightroom with the samrt previews and then read the metadata on the primary version of Lightroom. Do both versions of Lightroom need smart previews installed? Should I use a certain procedure of which i'm not aware? I have an iMac for my main computer and a Mac Book Pro for the remote computer.

Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file".

I am using Lightroom 4. I changed my import settings to a preset location. Is there a way to make that my default setting so I do not have to select it each time that I import?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy most recent photo import in Lightroom 4 unexpectedly changed destination. All previous imports appear in the LR "Folders" panel by date. This one appears under "Desktop" in that panel and places a blue folder of the images on my computer desktop. I do not want this! I deleted the images from lightroom, placed the folders in the trash and emptied it in order to attempt a re-import in the Folders location. LR said the files could not be read. It will only import the images as separate, dated folders appearing on my desktop. I did not purposefully change anything. Can I move these two dated folders into the Folder's column and get them off my desktop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.
Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft. The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:
Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview. The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:
Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.
This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import). Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.
This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.
