I'm getting a new laptop tomorrow and want to know the best way to transfer pictures from my old laptop (running LR 3.6) to my new Laptop - which will be running LR 4.

I have a new desktop and want to transfer the files from lightroom on my laptop to my new version of lightroom on my desktop. Every method that I've tried thus far has resulted in the original files being transferred without any of the associated processing.
Best way to simply pass these folders from lightroom on one computer to another.
Can Lightroom 4 catalogs on an iMac be transferred back & forth with Lightroom on a Windows laptop?

All my pictures are on it but I want to keep my originals only for the 4-5 stars rated, the one I keep working on, the one I'm suppose to export/print in bigger size than the smart preview (2540). I have a backup (backing up every 2-3 days) on an external drive of all my pictures. how I can "automaticly" select in the finder all the pictures that are not 4-5 stars rated and delete them from the laptop. As I said, the idea is to keep on the mac all the good pictures in original format and have all the others pictures in smart preview mode.

Some old jpgs Lighroom suddenly started to report as unreadable, if I open them in another program they are not unreadable. Tried an optimimize catalog with no luck. Tried to start with a new catalog and import all the pictures again. That went fine, now I can read the pictures that earlier were reported unreadable. The problem is that I do not have my collections from the old catalog.
How do I get them to the new catalog?
Or: How can I make the pictures readable for Lightroom in the old catalog?
I process in Lightroom 4 on a Mac Air when traveling. When I return I want to transfer those processed images to my home MacbookPro computer. I think there is a way to attach the Lightroom changes to the photos and then import them into the home computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a iMac to capture and tag photos as finalist. I then transfer the folder to another machine for editing. When I add the images into the editing machines lightroom, all the tags, ratings, stars, colors don't show up.
When I was on Lr3 on both machines, these tags transferred. Even when a client used Bridge, they showed up. Now, not so much.

If I select and keyword RAWs (not doing any image adjustments) in L4 on a mac air on the road, how do I later (after moving these RAWs to another computer with L4) export my selection and keywords to it for image editing? Is this possible? Hoping to do the 'boring' stuff on the road, then working on them on a larger computer at home...

Anytime I try to Browse and attach a photo I have to go to my pictures and some time the pictures are not there (the ones I downloaded into Adobe from my camera). View 1 Replies View Relatedsuccessfully imported one of 6 folders from laptop to ext drive. opened catalog in ext drive just fine. all images included metadata, keywords and appropriate collections show up. when i import from ext drive to desktop the images appear without any additional info. cannot figure out what i am doing wrong. initially imported all 6 folders from lap to ext to deskptop. not all images copied, collections were screwed up. everything was screwed up. that's when i decided to just try one ata time. creating new catalog each time. would like to include in existing catalog in desktop. until i can get it right, maybe i should create new catalog in desktop and then merge catalogs.

At the momeent I am using the Drobo as back up until the 3tb becomes full. That time has come and I want to use the Drobo as the main drive for my images which contains exactly the same files as the 3tb. I also copied the catalog file onto the Drobo so I thought that all I needed to do is open the catalog in the Drobo and it will automatically access the files in the drobo drive but this is not the case as it still accesses the 3tb files. I tried diconnecting the 3tb thinking that it will try to access the files on the Drobo but then I get ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg. Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.
