I just bought a new Mac and I want to transfer old catalogs (LR 3 version) from my external and put the catalogs on my new Mac using Lightroom 4. I am having trouble getting the catalogs to save under my Pictures folder on my hard drive....
View 5 RepliesSome old jpgs Lighroom suddenly started to report as unreadable, if I open them in another program they are not unreadable. Tried an optimimize catalog with no luck. Tried to start with a new catalog and import all the pictures again. That went fine, now I can read the pictures that earlier were reported unreadable. The problem is that I do not have my collections from the old catalog.
How do I get them to the new catalog?
Or: How can I make the pictures readable for Lightroom in the old catalog?
I transferred my LR4 catalogue from my Mac hard drive to an external drive. Then, I transferred my original photo files (2012, 2011 etc, with subfolders by date) to the external drive as well. Then I clicked "update folder location" on each main folder. In the catalogue under "All Photographs," most of my photos are offline and when I click "find missing photos" they're still offline. When I click the ? on an individual photo, LR can't find it. But when I find its folder on my own, LR won't allow me to select it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I would like to take my existing photo's on an internal drive and move them to an external drive. I would like to leave my catalogue where it is on my internal drive. I would then like to use smart previews to allow me to edit my photo's with or without the external drive connected and have the photo's automatically sync'd when the external drive is re-connected.

I want to use the 64 bit version for esternal editing, but my photos from Lightroom 5.3 go to the Photoshop CC 32bit version for external editing. I cannot find a way to change this preference.
Any solution other than uninstalling the Photoshop CC 32 bit version which does not appear to be an option?
My i mac died. i have an external back up. apple store will transfer it to my new computer. but how can that be possible that Photoshop will just transfer.

This process is intended to be used eventually to transfer this and other catalogs onto a new Windows 8 PC installed with Elements 11.
However, in the interim I would also like to be able to access the picture files and the catalog data on the ehd from a Vista based laptop which also has Elements 6 installed. How to do this without carrying out a full restore process that would load all of the files onto my laptop's hard drive.
In transferring the picture files to the end I also seem to have lost the original file structure that was on my PC, as folders have been renamed numerically and are all held individually in the main folder of the end. View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a iMac to capture and tag photos as finalist. I then transfer the folder to another machine for editing. When I add the images into the editing machines lightroom, all the tags, ratings, stars, colors don't show up.
When I was on Lr3 on both machines, these tags transferred. Even when a client used Bridge, they showed up. Now, not so much.

If I select and keyword RAWs (not doing any image adjustments) in L4 on a mac air on the road, how do I later (after moving these RAWs to another computer with L4) export my selection and keywords to it for image editing? Anytime I try to Browse and attach a photo I have to go to my pictures and some time the pictures are not there (the ones I downloaded into Adobe from my camera). There is a way to transfer the Adobe photos to this program but I forget how I did it.

For some reason the next time I start LR, it cannot find the catalog, and I have to manually point to the backup, since I know that one is current. I'd assume the one in My Pictures is current also, but for some reason I keep getting this error.
