What viewing and/or editing capability will exist if the Lightroom catalog (not the full image files but only the previews) are exported and installed on a laptop? I would like to vuew the images while traveling and do minor editing but the complete image files are too extensive to transfer to the laptop. The comntempated procedure is to export as a catalog with neagtive files unchecked but available previews checked.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to restore my LR4 catalog from a backup. Here are the details.
- Lightroom installed on Windows 7 main drive - C:
- Entire photo collection stored in a separate internal hdd - F:
- LR4 catalog backed up on an external drive.
I had to reset my C: drive back to factory status, wiping out all of my installed programs. After the factory reset I had to reinstall my secondary HDD and it was recognized by Win7 with one problem. It is now listed as E: rather than F:.
After reinstalling Lightroom I copied my catalog backup into the appropriate folder and launched LR. It recalled the catalog with no problem but couldn't find any of my photos! Is there any way to tell Lightroom where they all are rather than reimporting? The photos are all in the exact same location as previously. The only change is the drive letter from F: to E:.
I tried to go into Windows and change the drive letter from E: back to F: but Windows won't let me name it F: for some reason.
I just managed to crash LR (4.1) big time, resulting in a BSOD and immediate Windows shutdown. What triggered this: both LR and my PC are usually very reliable, and in fact my PC has never before blue screened on me. At the time, LR was building a collection.
I re-booted and checked over my catalogue in LR, focusing on the images I'd been working on prior to the crash (all in the same folder on my HD). I see no obvious corruption with the images I was working on; in fact LR even managed to complete the collection. I allowed it to check the catalogue integrity and it found no issues. However I now have a nagging doubt that perhaps I'm overlooking something... Do you think it might be worth my while to restore from a previous backup, just to be sure no corruption has managed to rear its head in my catalogue, or do you think that, based on the lack of any warning signs, I should be OK?
This raises another related question: how do you know that a catalogue is corrupted at all? Does LR give you any warning/error message?
I just discovered that a folder with hundreds of edited raw files has lost all of the edits. This files were created and edited prior to Lightroom. I was not using XML files at that time. The only thing that I can think of that has happened since then is the conversion from 3 to 4. I can go back into a version 3 backup catalog and the edits are there. I have tried to resave all metadata in the version 3 catalog to XML files but that had no effect. Is there any way to go into a backup catalog and somehow bring those edits into another catalog?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images into Lightroom 4 I always automatically backup to my external drive. I then edit my images and usually end up rejecting about 1/3 to half of my images. I delete these permenantly from my PC and the L4 catalogue. BUT they still appear to remain on my backup drive which is now innevitably full. Is there a quick and easy way of deleting these rejected images or syning the master files with the catalogue to free up nearly half of my backup drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PSE 11 on Windows to perform a full catalog backup to extenal HDD. The backup complete successfully. I then move teh external HDD and Restore the catalog using PSE 11 on Max OS X (Maverick). After selecting the source and desination for the restore, I get an error message that the selected HDD does not contain a valid backup. I have twice backed up the catalog. The folders on the HDD contqain more than 300GB of data from teh backup. I get no error during the backup process.

I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. When I click on the See Adobe Technote button, I received the message that that file is unavailable from the Adobe Website. At the moment, I have a Folder structure on my computer. At the Top I have Photos. Under Photos I have 43 additional Folders such as ( Cindi/Ivan Pictures, Cory & Jess Pictures, Barry & Janie Pictures, etc..) Now for each of these folders, such as Cory & Jess Pictures, I have a set of folders basically broken down by month/year. Now in a Given Month/Year Folder, I have a set of folders with each one containing the pictures of a given event that occurred ( birthday, trip, etc…). Guess my initial question is how do I get these pictures into a Lightroom Catalog and do I continue to use the same Structure.
Another example - Under the Barry/Janie Pictures Folder, one of the many Folders in this Folder is called Trips. Inside the Trips folder, I have folders for every major trip that Janie & I have taken since 2004 (21 different folders) (For example there is an Isreal Folder). The Israel Folder is made up of a set of folders, for each individual event or place that we visited during our Trip - i.e. 59 different folders. How would this Trips Folder be brought into Lightroom?
Got the <Unexpected error opening catalogue> dialog when starting Lightroom 5.2. Will not allow me to save a new catalogue. Deleted old catalogue thinking that might prompt Lightroom to create a new catalogue or allow me to create and save a new one.Create Folder with New Catalogue allows me to enter a new catalogue name but then Select Catalogue dialog box is empty. What I want is to end up with 1 catalog with all my photos in LR 5 with all my previous edits from LR 2.7 and the keywords as well. By the way, my LR 5 has photos in it as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled Lightroom, because it was too slow on my computer. It put a lot of library files and directories in My pictures folder.
When I use a backup program (SyncbackSE) to backup my pictures, it starts to scan all the Lightroom library files and it takes forever (hours and counting). Even though Windows cannot find the directories (with hidden and system files shown). I want to completely delete the Lightroom directories, because now I can't backup my images anymore. It is a pain in the dark places.
After a recent hard disc failure I have reinstalled LR3 and upgraded to 3.6. The catalogue has been recovered from backup but LR is not seeing it and I have been unable to discover from within LR where it expects the catalogue files to be.

successfully imported one of 6 folders from laptop to ext drive. opened catalog in ext drive just fine. all images included metadata, keywords and appropriate collections show up. when i import from ext drive to desktop the images appear without any additional info. cannot figure out what i am doing wrong. initially imported all 6 folders from lap to ext to deskptop. not all images copied, collections were screwed up. everything was screwed up. that's when i decided to just try one ata time. creating new catalog each time. would like to include in existing catalog in desktop. until i can get it right, maybe i should create new catalog in desktop and then merge catalogs.

Naturally the smart previews would have to be regularly updated to match any work undertaken on the PC.
I only have one computer, laptop mac retina. All my pictures are on it but I want to keep my originals only for the 4-5 stars rated, the one I keep working on, the one I'm suppose to export/print in bigger size than the smart preview (2540). I have a backup (backing up every 2-3 days) on an external drive of all my pictures. how I can "automaticly" select in the finder all the pictures that are not 4-5 stars rated and delete them from the laptop. As I said, the idea is to keep on the mac all the good pictures in original format and have all the others pictures in smart preview mode.

He is currently using PSE 10 to manage around 11,000 photos. He is getting into problems with the data base crashing and is looking at moving to Lightroom. He has been told that there is no way to make the transfer and will need to wait for LR 4 for a fix.
I'm trying to import a catalogue into Lightroom 4.4. The catalogue I'm importing has 3397 images but only 1806 of these images have been imported. I tried to reimport, but the import dialogue box won't let me tick any of the boxes. With the preview window open in the import dialogue box it seems that some images are missing, yet they are all there when I go to the folder. The images and catalogue I'm trying to import are on my desktop. I have verified and repaired disk permissions after clearing my caches.
