Lightroom :: Left / Right Panning In Zoom With Shortcuts
Feb 28, 2013
I would like to continue using the Adjustment Brush outside of a currently zoomed area without having to jump out to pan with the mouse to the next area of the image. (If I change from the Adjustment Brush to mouse-click driven panning, I simply lose the end of my formerly brushed (painted) area, because it can be 're-activated' only with its pin, which is outside of the new area where I have just moved by panning with the mouse.)
I can move up and down with the scrolling roll without quitting the Adjustment Brush, but I have not figured out how to pan horizontally with a shortcut (e.g. something like Shift + Left/Right arrow key).
I am aware that by using the Shift + PgUp/PgDn keys I can pan up to the top, then down to the bottom in the adjacent strip, and then up again in the third strip, etc. But this 'vertical zig-zagging' is very time consuming and does not necessarily take me right to the targeted next area.
Is there any shortcut for horizontal panning in Zoom?

The other day(most likely either coinciding with an update or maybe downloading another CC program) scrubby zoom and flick panning both stopped working. If I select the zoom tool scrubby zoom is greyed out.

Does anyone know the shortcuts for the new zoom facility. It would be quite nice to have them functional on my wacom tablet's strip.

When looking at the keyboard shortcuts for MAC, the 100% zoom is down as command alt '0', yet it is showing in the dropdown list as 'n'?
Is there a way of changing the shortcuts. Previously the 100% zoom was simply command (apple) '0', which is now fit to page. how to change the shortcuts?

I've used Photoshop 7 for around a year now, using it mainly to touch up digital photos. I've just upgraded to Photoshop CS, but I've found that I'm having difficulties with my keyboard.
Usually, to zoom in, I can press CTRL + +. However, when I do this, nothing happens. Also, when I make a mistake with the magnetic lasso tool, I can usually press my Delete key to undo the last fixed point. Again, this doesn't work. All that is on on my keyboard is "Number Lock", which just allows me to use the right hand number keypad. Even with this off, the problems still aren't solved.

I still want it to have its normal behavior while in a command, but when not in a command it still enters the selection mode, which does not work, but if it would enter a zoom window command, it might be a more useful command.

Just installed Lightroom 5.In the Library module while panning a zoomed in image the movement is very jerky. This only happens on the second and subsequent images opened. The first image after launching Lightroom is fine.

I have, up until I got CS3 and the new aluminum keyboard, not had any issues with this.
I have numerous, common actions recorded which have F keys assigned to as shortcuts.
F10, which turns sound off in the OS on an aluminum keyboard, overrides my Photoshop shortcut.
I've lost my 12 or so most common action shortucts in Photoshop because of this! That is about a 5% loss in productivity...

I need to mix left to right and right to left (hebrew) text in a textbox. How can I do that? If I copy/paste hebrew text the text is inserted as if it was left to right, that is: reversed. Can I somehow work around that?

In LR5 I am trying to import a folder but it is so deep within my hard drive that there are lots of parent folders I have to click through to get to it. The problem is that the left pane is only a few inches wide and by the time I get closer to the folder I wan, I can't see it. It seems like I should be able to simply widen the panel by clicking and dragging the edge of the panel but no slider arrows appear when I hover there. How do I widen the panel?

On an image in Develop, right click to bring up the context menu. In the past, when I moved down to "Edit", the flyout menu appeared on the right. It does this in pretty much ALL the software I use. Unless I'm against the right edge of the screen/window, the flyout comes out the right side.
In 5.2 (and possibly earlier V5 versions), ALL my flyouts come out on the left side no matter where the context menu is...
Did this change? Or is there a setting to control this? 'Cause everything else, including Photoshop, still seems to use the behavior that's been there in the past...

I have a photo that I want to crop a little off the top and left side. However, the size of the photo must be 8 x 12. I set the aspect ratio to 8 x 12. Then on the photo, I move the line on the top and left to where I want it. The aspect ratio then goes back to original size. What am I missing?

In Lightroom 5.3, in the Slideshow Module and in the Impromptu Slideshow, the left and right arrow keys should move the slideshow backwards or forwards respectively when pressed. However, in my copy of Lightroom 5.3, pressing these arrow keys while the slideshow is running or paused has no effect whatsoever. (The arrow keys work as they should)?

Lightroom 4.3, Win 7 64 bit
I am trying to edit an Adjustment Brush in the Develop module.
I want to fine tune the coverage area for the brush.
I can use Ctrl +/- keys to zoom in/out, and the Page Up/Down keys to scroll up and down when zoomed in, but there does not seem to be any way to scroll right and left when zoomed in. The key shortcut lists I've seen don't list anything for scroll left and right. How to scroll the image left and right when zoomed in ?

I finally installed lightroom 3 after many, many months of it sitting on my desk. I have been watching tutorials, and playing around with it, and I have found that the default presets are only on the right side panel in library. On the left panel in develop the heading presets shows up but when I click on the triangle nothing shows up under them. I did see a question already on here to right click on the heading and check it which I did a few times just to see if it would work and nothing.

That would be a HUGE WORKFLOW!
E.g. PS like possibility for own mapping. ESPECIALLY for mapping of any kind of of own custom presets.
Please note that MANY of us use WACOM tablets or similar. With PS any tablet works like a charm. There is quite some space for improvement yet.

Full screen view is a minor, but convenient new feature in LR5. It's a quick way to look at a photo without distractions. Being able to flag, color code, rank, and apply Develop module edits with shortcut keys while in full screen are all pluses. Also, the primary "bug" in the Beta, that the F key did not work like a toggle and take you back to the prior view, has been fixed. However, the keyboard shortcuts still do not work consistently.
If you initiate full screen from the Library module, pressing E, G, or D all work correctly. Even the shortcuts to specific Develop module tools work right. For example, R opens up the cropping tool. However, if you initiate full screen from Develop, pressing E or G still works, but pressing D or any of the Develop tool shortcuts has no effect.

In Library Mode:
Moving a photograph from one folder to another creates two copies, one in the destination folder and one in the originating folder. In grid view, right clicking on a discarded photo and choosing delete from disk no longer works as the photo deleted does not show in Lightroom but in windows the files still remains on the hard drive.
In the first few months these two features worked properly but no longer respond in the same way. I tried Alt delete and the photo was removed from Lightroom but not from the original folder.
Is this a bug or a windows problem?

I'm taking a photography class and we're getting a quick lesson in using Lightroom, working on Macs. I'm never used the program before and I use a PC so I'm not familiar with Mac either.
I'm catching on pretty quick, but Im wondering, is there a way to use keystrokes or shortcuts to toggle between the menu items at the top of the screen. The assistants in the class said that on a Mac you can access these menu items with the mouse, but in a PC you use the Alt + a letter and can get to the sub-items with either letters or the arrow keys.

It is possible to adjust in Photoshop the size and density of a tool when using shorcuts (ALT + right-click and various mouvement of the mouse or stylus).
Is there anything similar in LR5 to avoid permanent back and forth to the menu.

The title says it all. The file(s) I imported and want to develop are JPEG files. Not sure that has anything to do with the problem.
How can I restore this tool pallette?
I meant the right column. The main things in the palette I am looking for are: exposure, shadows, clarity, saturation, vibrance, etc.

I am currently working with a trial version of Lightroom 4.2 and i have been doing some silly things. The end result is that Catalog has disappeared from the left hand panel of the library tab ie i only see Folders, Collections and Publish Services..
I have tried to use File/New Catalog, Open Catalog and Open Recent but, in each case, I get an error box appearing: " ....catalog address refers to a location that is not available" it does not close and re-open LR
Now for the confession as to how this situation arose. I had been using LR quite happily using the catalogue which was automatically created when i started. Then I decided to try creating a new catalogue, in fact I ended up creating a few new catalogues. I decided to remove all the catalogues and start again with one catalogue which I would set up (I was not worried about losing the updates to the photos i had been playing around with) But, as i could find nothing within LR about deleting catalogues, I decided to remove them via Windows Explorer. When i went back into LR, Catalog was still showing in the left hand panel and, when i looked in Explorer, it was in the original folder My Pictures/Lightroom which I thought i had deleted along with all the other catalogues. Presumably it had been re-created automatically as in my original use of LR
I then compounded my mistakes by clicking on the + to the right of Catalog and, for interest, choosing whatever was at the top of the resultant list. It was at this point that Catalog disappeared never to be seen again.
