Lightroom :: Inadvertently Combined Two Different Cameras Same Date Folders?

Jan 23, 2012

I accidentally combined my Canon 30D 2011-12 folder with my Hp 850 2011-12 folder, now one camera's images show missing, and so does the folder for the missing images. Since they have all been keyworded and developed, how can I recover the appropriate ones back into the right missing folder?

I know the Browser can sort by Date Created and Date Modified but that does not relate to Date Taken.

Lightroom :: Reorganize Big Catalog In Folders By Capture Date

Dec 13, 2012

I typically import my photo's from my camera and reorganize the photos by date.

However I just had several thousand old printed photographs scanned.

I have:
1. Imported the photographs into a seperate new catalog2. Labeled all the photographs with keywords
3. Metadata->Edit Capture Time so that the capture time is now the correct date

Now I would like to reorganize the photo's into folders by date the usaual yyyy/yyyy-mm/yyyy-mm-dd  by the capture time date.

I have tried to import them into another catalog either by either "Import Photo's and Video" or by "Import from another catalog" either way the new catalog has the folders by date that the photographs were scanned not by the capture time that I changed.

How do I do this change the folders to be by capture date?

Lightroom :: Custom Date Formats For Folders On Import In 4?

Aug 25, 2012

how to change one of the entries in TranslatedStrings.txt in order to provide a different/custom destination folder naming scheme for importing.

This definitely worked in some previous versions (a while since I tried it) but in 4.1 it doesn't seem to work -- there is no such file in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.app/Contents or in the en.lproj subfolder (which seems to be where the non English TranslatedStrings.txt files live).

I won't go into why I need to do this, suffice to say if I can't do it, I'm going to face a tedious process of importing a load of stuff year by year and choosing the destination base folder manually for each year. Which is do-able, it's just a big pain.

Lightroom :: Automatically Moving Folders Based On Date?

Jan 10, 2012

I have Lightroom place images in folders on import according to date taken, e.g. 2011 -> 12 -> 31 -> 2011 12 31_001.jpg.

Since importing a lot of images, I have changed their metadata dates due timezone issues or camera dates set wrong.  So a photo imported in 2011->12->31 actually now belongs in 2012->01->01.  How do I get Lightroom to automatically go through my whole catalogue and move them?  I don't mind if all my files get renamed.  I though of removing them all from my catalogue and the re-imprting, but won't that lose all my edits?

Lightroom :: How To Reorder Photos In Folders Based On Capture Date

Apr 4, 2014

I have scanned a bunch of photographs and imported them into lightroom. I then went and changed all the capture dates to represent when the photos were actually taken. Now I would like to put the photo's in a folder structure based on the capture date (as all my other photo's are). How is it best to do this?

Lightroom :: History Deletes Itself When Lrcats Are Combined

Dec 9, 2011

I have been combining several Lightroom catalalogs into one using "Import from Catalog" from the Master Cat, and the process has worked smoothly for the most part. The one problem I am running into is that changes I made in the develop module in previous libraries before they were imported into the Master Catalog show changes in the develop module, but not in history, making it impossible to go back to the original image, or to track changes made in my previous smaller libraries. I often use Lightroom while traveling so that I can organize and touch up on the go, but when I return home I want to be able to combine these photos and edit them seamlessly, and this isa  giant hiccup in my workflow.

Lightroom :: Comparing Images From Different Cameras

Jun 23, 2012

I recently tried to compare images taken with a Nikon D300 (12.3 mgapixel-small sensor), D800 (36 megapixels-large sesnsor) and D4 (16.1 megapixels - large sensor) using the LR4.1 Compare function with not very satisfactory results (iMac 27, Lion). I took 4 images each of the same subject with a 60mm f2.8 Nikon lens on a tripod at F8, at 200,400,800 and 1600 ISO and imported the images into LR. Selecting images of the same ISO and using the Compare function, they all looked pretty much the same so I viewed them at 1:1 and 2:1 trying to get a closer look at the fine details to check for sharpness and noise. Regardless of how I cropped the images, I couldn't get any of them from the different cameras to be the same size on the screen in the closeup views. I presume the combination of sensor size and megapixel capture on the sensors caused this problem but I don't have the technical expertise to either understand (or care). Is there a way in LR to overcome these differences?

Lightroom :: Why Does Capture Date In Metadata Panel Not Match Capture Date Seen In Grid Extra View

Dec 19, 2013

Why does the capture date in the metadata panel not match the capture date seen in the grid extra view and how do I fix it?  The images that I have in my library are digitized negatives and I've corrected the capture dates and times to be accurate; however, the capture date and in the metadata window shows what I've changed it to and the date in both the grid extra view and the Metadata>Edit Capture Time... options both reflect the date the image was last modified.  Not all of the images in my library are this way and some show the correct information.  When sorted by Capture Time, all images fall exactly where they should in the proper order (based on the changed, corrected edit time and not the modified date).  I saved metadata to the file with the new date but it didn't fix it.

Lightroom :: Workflow / Matching Different Cameras And Lenses?

May 9, 2013

I'm currently trying to match six cameras and all their different lenses to produce identical images and I need fine tuning my workflow on making the camera profiles.

Me and my team are shooting weddings. We have Nikon D3s, Nikon D3, 2x Canon 5D mk III, Canon 1D mk 3, Canon 5D mk II with 17 lenses and I'm in the middle of the process of matching their colors so when we shoot together I don't go crazy trying to match the white balance between all the cameras in Lightroom.

The issue I have is that I managed to make all the colors, contrast, saturation and brightness for all cameras and lenses on daylight shots identical (with minimal differences) but shots under 2800k light are very different.

I bought a 24 patch color checker and took photos with all cameras - once with a 2800k halogen lamp and then with a 5500k strobe (Nikon SB-800 @ 1/16 power). I shot in RAW. The exposures are good - no blown highlights or unexposed parts. In Camera raw I applied the "Camera neutral" color profile for all cameras. I exported the shots in DNG. For each camera and lens I imported the halogen and flash lit file into DNG Profile editor. In the chart section I created a color table for the "2850 K only" halogen lit shot and then for the flash lit shot choosing "6500 K only".

So far so good. The colors are good but to achieve them for the different cameras or lenses I need to input different color temperatures and tint. What I want is to set identical color temperature for all photos (say 5500k) and to get identical colors regardless of camera or lens.

So the next step I took to get at least the daylight shots identical is to play with the "White balance calibration" under the "Color matrices" tab. For instance - DNG Profile editor determines that the flash shot should be set to 6050k +8 tint. I move the "white balance calibration" sliders until I reach the numbers I want above the flash shot (5500k). Because the colors shift I press the "Create color table" button again. My goal is to show the program that I want these (calibrated) colors to be achieved at 5500k +0 tint and not 6050k +8 tint. I get the result I want but that affects the 2850k shot. If I readjust the "white balance calibration" sliders for the 2850k shot and use "create color table" again, that ruins the 6500k adjustment.

So using this workflow I get either the daylight shots right or the tungsten lit shots, but not both.

So in short my question is - How do I create proper profiles that produce identical colors among all cameras and lenses under all white balance settings?

Lightroom :: Restore Missing Sub-folders Into Folders Panel

Dec 10, 2011

I am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.

About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned.   When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.

how I can restore the 'missing' sub folders into the folders panel.
