I see a picture in LR4. Open with PS CS3 and crop it, save and close. Back in LR the picture remains in its unedited crop in both gallery and loupe views. If I reopen in PS the crop I made is still there. How can I preview the edited file in the new crop in LR?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I send a file to Ps from Lr, edit that file then save it, Lr puts that file at the end of the line instead of next to the file I was working on. When you have 600 photos in a down loud, it is a pain to scroll through the photo's to find your place again.
Is there a setting to force the saved file back in line next to the file that was edited in Ps?
I know that Lightroom is unable to generate previews for PSD files if they haven't been saved with the Maximize Compatibility option. But, it seems that once you begin a preview for a folder Lightroom gets stuck in that mode even if you then go ahead and resave the file with the Maximize Compatibility option set to Always.
In a test just now I opened one of the problem files in Photoshop CS6 and saved it. Then I went back to Lightroom and tried to reimport the file but it still said Preview Unavailable. I tried toggling on/off a couple of layers and resaving but it. So, next I actually tried making a change to the file and resaving. That still didn't work. I've tried exiting from the Import dialog in LR and restarting the import and even restarting Lightroom but nothing makes a difference.

When I import raw canon cr2 or Nikon NEF files, I cannot see the previews.
The progress bar gets stuck on building smart previews and I see a greyed out box. When I choose one greyed out preview box and go into develop then the preview appears and I can edit the image.
I want to make smart previews for all of my existing files and move the originals to an external drive. It goes without saying that I want the catalogs intact. I tried to do it but was unsucessful.

I don't use smart collections much. Could that be set up as an attribute? Like the way Itunes has last played in decending order.

Using Win7 64-bit O/S. My usual procedure from LR4 after editing is to export to Elements 9 catalog using the Cntl-Shift-E commmand. I rename the file as it suits me then export to my hard drive location by pressing "Export". I then go to PSE and get the message "New files have been found. Do you want to import?" Clicking yes adds the file to my Library. After installing LR5, I can't import edited files from LR5 OR Photoshop (CS5).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter sending files to Photoshop for further editing, use simple "save" command to return them to Lightroom. That used to work but now only JPEG files do round trip, not raw files (DNGs) although round tripping to Elements works fine. Photoshop is saving them to my catalogue instead.
Adobe agent spent more than an hour tinkering with my computer before giving up. Tried to blame use of DNG but this is an Adobe invention. Also said to use synchronise folder command as a work round but this restores deleted files as well. He promised to "escalate the problem" and I would be called back, but that was a week ago.
Working on an iMac in LR3, I thought I was deleting one unwanted file from disk, but actually had all 22 edited images highlighted and deleted them all. I need to undo 'delete from disk' on edited files, however 'undo' is greyed out and command Z is ineffective. I see them all in the trash and the preview shows how they appeared with my edits. When I did this once before, I moved images out of trash back into original file on the hard drive and reimported into LR3, however the edits were not maintained. I need to retain these edits (days of work!) so how do I undo my mistake?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been exporting photos into a folder called edited in my originals folder. then i delete the originals and dump the edited into the main folder. but then i can no longer access the photos in lightroom because it says the file is missing. what am i doing wrong? do i have to keep originals and edited photos in my folders? i try to export to replace originals but that doesnt work and it will only work if i put in sub folder. i dont want to keep a copy of originals and edited, but i also dont want to not be able to make more edits in the future.

Tonight I sit down to edit and was going to delete another catalog not thinking and deleted all of my pictures including my wedding folders. Those had thousands of files most of which I had already edited. They went to my Recycle Bin so I do still have them but now they are not edited. Is there ANY way of getting what I had edited back?

Although I added the external files back into Lightroom (ver. 3) none of my Lightroom settings have remained, so all collection information and all development settings have gone. It there any way to get this information back? I have religiously done Lightroom backups but am afraid that if I use one of these back ups I will lose some of my more recent settings, work that I have done since I deleted the files from my hard drive. I am hoping there is some simple way of relinking to retrieve this information. I tried to use 'find missing photos' but couldn't get that to work.

I can however import the raw file and then open it to view or edit it. Without the preview option, browsing for your photos is impossible.

In the Finder, all my .AI files show up only as a generic AI file icon. Trying to Preview the files in the Finder also only show the generic icon.
I've tracked down the QuickLook Generator locations, and found that I've got a generator named "illust.qlgenerator". But when I run in the Terminal.app this command: "qlmanage -t <ai file>" tells me this:
[WARNING] Plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/ is 32bit
[ERROR] Can't load plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/: The bundle “PDF” couldn’t be loaded because it doesn’t contain a version for the current architecture.
That Quick Look Generator is only 32-bit, which seems to be causing problems.
When I moved it to a different folder to disable it, then the native PDF.qlgenerator takes over, and puts the obnoxious grid behind the previews.
Problems with the OS X PDF QuickLook generator: Obnoxious grid behind the actual content instead of resizing to maximize the thumbnailNative .AI files saved without PDF compatibility show no preview, just "This is an AI file without PDF content"To get the preview, saving with PDF compatibility would double the file size. Is there a native Illustrator QuickLook Generator? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall CS6 just to find there's no difference. Does CS6 install any better previews than I'm getting? Another Mac user with the same setup shows beautiful full-color previews of the same AI sample files without requiring PDF compatibility or the obnoxious grid.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7. The previews were working now they just don't work, "preview not available". I see no check box in window 7 to turn that on or off, unlike in windows xp. I have tried turning on large thumbnails in windows explorer when opening files, older files will show up but most recent files just show the Corel Draw icon large.
Could this be some kind of auto update from Windows? Since I have no destination, I'm never lost.
I have just installed Lightroom 3 - on PC laptop - and imported some images from the Picture Folder on the OS drive.Everything seems to be fine except (and its a major except) there are absolutely no thumbnails or previews of these pictures appearing in Lightroom to work on. I have tried this with a few different file formats.
