Lightroom :: Import Only Shows Gray Boxes In Library Grid View
Oct 30, 2012
I run a HP DV6 Laptop with Core I7 and Windows 7. While editing my photos my computer appeared to over heat (which is a recurring issue that I'm working to resolve) during mid-post production. Upon restarting my computer, and when I accessed the same photos, I got a very lengthy loading icon when I clicked on a photo under the "Develop" tab. This problem recurred and in attempt to resolve the problem I decided to delete the library and re-import the files. Upon re-import, I cannot view all the photos in the library grid view. I'm not sure if my files are now corrupt from the sudden crash or is it just a data issue with LR?
I've attached a screen shot of what the problem library looks like...
I've seen several adobe tutorials and youtube videos that show moving photos or folders by drag and drop in the library grid view. I cannot get it to work.
Steps: 1. Mousedown on a photo (not the frame) in the grid 2. Drag the mouse to a folder in the "Folder" pane (left of the grid) 3. Mouseup on the destination folder
Results: Nothing happens. The mouse cursor doesn't change from the arrow. There is no indication I can drag and drop. The photos are not moved.
The photos are stored on a NAS. Of course I can move them around via Windows Explorer, but I want to do this from inside LR4 for obvious reasons. From LR4, I can create new folders, but I still cannot move photos into those folders. I also tried creating a new folder on a local drive. Again, I was able to create the folders, but was not able to move any photos into the folder.
Change to the grid view and resize the LR window by double-clicking the frame title - the window will be resized but the grid view is not updated -
maximing the windows --> blank area to the right of the thumbnails (the images in the grid view)press tab two times to if fix the problemrestore the window--> some thumbnails are only half visible or not visisble at all because there is no horizontal scrollbar and the thumbnails have not been wrappedpress tab two times to if fix the problem
I think I did not have this issue with LR 3.5 - or same problem with LR 3.6?
I have designed a layout in Illustrator (CS5.1) for a webpage. I save for web with transparency and when I view in a browser there is a gray outline of the artboard from illustrator. How to remove this outline?
So far the only way I have discovered is to laboriously click the checkbox on each image I want to import. It seems that one should be able to select a range with one click (e.g. holding down Shift and then clicking the last image in the range) or by using a context (right-click) menu. No dice.
I'm using Windows 7x64 and have recently installed Lightroom 4.3. Initially worked well but after installing Photoshop CS6 I can no longer see images. The metadata and histograms are there but no images. What I see is a set of gray frames, one for each image in the imported group. Each frame is numbered sequentially, and the total gray frames is the same as the number of images in the imported file.
Using the "Develop" mode I still see only a gray box, though the histogram is live, and as I move the cursor across the gray box it shows R, G, and B characteristics as if the photograph is visible.
The label for Library, i.e. the word 'Library', no longer shows in the line of module labels along the top panel of my Lightroom 4 window; all the others from Develop to Web are still there. I see they're called Module Picker Buttons (Menu - Lightroom - Identity Plate Setup..). I've just downloaded Lightroom version 4.4 but that hasn't triggered the reappearance of 'Library'. So I now have to use alt-cmd-1 to access the Library module. retrieve 'Library' for the top panel? Have I unknowingly made a keystroke that disabled it? I'm running Lightroom 4.4 on Mac OS 10.6.8.
My problem is, that photos are shown different in color between libary and development tool in Lightroom 3.6. The libary shows corrected color in photos, the development tool not. When I switch between libary and development tool sometimes, the development tool shows then the same colors.
My L 4 Library suddenly shows only the first thumbnail in a catalog. All the rest of the thumbnail windows are grey. Only thr last import sghows the full catalog.
Is there a way to add text (names or locations)so it shows on a photo from the library or develop module? I know you can add text in the slidshow module or when exporting, but it would be faster in the library/develop module.
Having a screen flicker problem since 5.cRC came out, but only in Library/Grid mode when scrolling or selecting from the grid. But only when there are more images than can fit on one page in the grid.Seems to use an unusually low amount of memory with nothing else running on the system.
I am a photographer shooting photo sets of cars and need to keep them in order of shooting upon uploading. I am trying to attach a graphic logo watermark to the first shot of each set while keeping them all in the same export order. But...I understand in order to attach the logo, I must be in export mode. Upon completion of the first photo watermark attachment.....I need to complete the export before going on to the next first shot of the series in the same library grid.
Maybe I am missing something here but need to figure this out other than in the export mode. If I take the pic to edit in photoshop to apply and flatten I back into Lightroom it puts the watermarked photo at the end of the library grid of photos.Do I need to apply to original instead of a copy to keep in right order?
I used to be able to highlight several images in the Library Grid mode, type in a Metadata Label, and that label would be applied to all of the images. Doesn't work any longer. What am I missing? Doesn't work for Keywords either.
In AutoCAD LT 2013, everytime I do something, little gray boxes explaining what I just did stack up on top of the "Type a command" box. Since you can't see thru, or work thru those little gray stack boxes I find myself constantly panning my drawing back and forth to work around them. It would sure make my drawing more efficient and less frustrating if I could turn off those little gray stack boxes. I've clicked around to try to find out if this can be done, but not knowing what they are called is making the quest a bit difficult.
A big bummer that in the library grid mode (or any other scrollable part of lightroom) I can't scroll with my touchscreen monitor like I can in IE or Chrome or Word etc.?? What is touchscreen compatible in lightroom? I would love for lightroom to be touchscreen friendly.
I have have small gray shaded boxes showing up on drawings plotted in Civil 3D, they are never anywhere I can see in the drawing and they never show up in the print preview. I have tried using multiple printers and still get the same thing. I think it may have something to do with viewports as they only show up inside a viewport window when plotting from paperspace and don't show up when I plot from modelspace.
I’m not sure where the problem lies but when I view images in Lightroom 3.6 in the Grid View they are out of focus. If I view a single image in the Loupe View it’s fine. This doesn’t happen in any other application I run. My PC has an ASUS GTX 550 Ti graphic card
Today I was browsing through my images library and I noticed that some of the images are dimmed. By dimmed, I mean that they appear desaturated... as though LR4 is trying to tell me something about the image... but I don't know what.
If I click on the image I can edit it. It appears normal when it is the "current image" (bright colors again). But as soon as I make another image the "current image" the other image goes back to the dimmed look.
Being able to see the keywords assigned to each photo in grid view would be incredibly useful to me for managing my photos and videos as I add new keywords. Just seeing the "this photo has keywords" tag does not work. I need to see the actual keywords, without having to click on each individual photo to see them.
I am having trouble finding the location I need to prevent LR 5 from moving around my grid screen after using the paint brush tool or any tool to change it's rating. I would like to focus on tagging/organizing my rated files as my priorty but without my screen shifting to the image that's changed... if it would just dissaper to the proper loaction I would be much happier than having to scroll back down to where I left off.
I have been using LR since version 2 and since upgrading to LR5 I can't find a way to view the jpeg files next to the raw file. in grid view it just shows RAW + JPEG on a single photo but I want to split them so I can see the jpeg type. I changed my preferences to 'treat jpegs as separate files' but what do I do with all the files I already imported and corrected?
I've just imported all my photo's into LR5 in order to categorise and delete where appropriate (In Library mode). Although JPG files are displayed where no RAW files exist, JPEG files are not displayed where corresponding RAW (CR2) files exist. I have checked the box in Preferences to treat JPEG files next to RAW files as seperate photos, but this seems to have no effect.
I am using LR 4.2 (on Mac) and have been using LR since 2.0. Yesterday all the badges on all my photos disappeared in Grid View. I didn't change any prefernce settings, or update that I am aware of. When I go to View > Grid View Styles> Show Badges, that option is checked, however it is grayed out. On the Mac that usually indicates it is not a viable option.
I've restarted the program but the problem remains. how to bring back badges?
