I am new to Lightroom. When I export a group of photos some are around 3000x4000 and others are around 6000x8000.
These larger sizes will not upload to my Picasa Web Albums. Why are they different sizes? Some are only taken on my iphone and are the larger size and others are on my SLR and are the small size.
I have a preset in Lightroom set to export photos with the long-edge at 900px in length. Whenever I use the resize feature, the photos that result have horrible noise and I don't know what to do about it. I can export the images at full size without any noise, then use Photoshop CS5 to resize the images and still have cleaner photos.
Here's an example.
The following export preset it set as such:
- Export as JPEG
- Quality = 100%
- DPI = 300
- Resize to 900px on long-edge
The first photo is exported via Lightroom 5 with the above settings, then directly uploaded to Imgur.
The second photo only has the Resize feature disabled in Lightroom. It was then resized to 900px on long-edge in Photoshop CS5 and the uploaded to Imgur.
The only difference between these two photos is which program was used to shrink them down to 900 x 600px.

What do you think could be causing this? Since the only difference between the photos is which program resized them, all I can think is that it's an LR5 issue...
I am new to Lightroom. I give my clients their pictures on a cd/DVD to take to their prefferd printer and make prints in whatever size they like. However, I have been readings some forums and am confused about how to export my pictures so that they can be printed at any size but without having heads or feet cut off during enlargements,etc. basically, how should I export my pictures do that they can be printed at any size ( 4x6 or 8x10 pr even larger)without any loss of image. I currently have it set at 300 dpi and no sharpening because I do my sharpening in Lightroom.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am creating a photo book using LR 4.1 and BookSmart (so that I can design my own layouts which I can't do in the LR Book module). Everything is working fine except for resizing to fit BookSmart photo containers. In LR it appears that I can only resize to an aspect ratio and not to the actual pixels. For example, I have a custom size of 5.7 x 4, which LR crops to the aspect but retains a high pixel count (4798 x 3367 for example). The optimal size for the BookSmart container is 1710 x 1200 pixels. My understanding is the BookSmart downsamples the image to fit the pixel dimensions of its container. I have read that for best results you should have your photos in the optimal size to begin with, which avoids the downsampling. In LR I can't see any other way of doing this except in the Print module, which does not connect back to my collection in Publish Services. I am hoping to avoid having to edit each photo (over 400) in Photoshop just so that the size (dimensions and pixels) is optimal for the BookSmart photo containers. Am I missing something in LR that would allow me to set the size correctly for BookSmart?

Recently I tried to print a sign that needed to be exactly 17inches but it came out 16.5inches. When I clicked on the image it said that it was 17inches, but does not print correctly.

I can't find the option to control the resolution when I try to export to Facebook. Before I got Lightroom 4, I would create whole new low-resolution files of images I wanted to post online using Photoshop. The image size settings I would use are a longest edge of 10 inches at 72ppi, and I would like to continue doing this. If I can only set the longest side to 720 pixels (I can't even seem to set the longest edge to an inches value - I can only choose a pixels value) and not change the resolution from 300ppi to 72ppi, then my photos' longest edge will only be less than 3 inches long (right?). Thus, I really want to be able to upload low-resolution photos to Facebook via Lightroom with the ability to change both the resolution and the image dimensions. How to do it without having to export to my hard drive first?

Is there an easier way to export data to Excel so that I can have the dimension reports rather than doing them manually. The second question is on the ability to save the document as a .pdf, although I think this is possible.

So I tried creating a new document where I set the size in centimetres, but when it comes to print how come I cant seem to get the option to print that size.

1. It does not show the original file size. At one time I used this as a cue to see if I had forgotten to resample.
2. After the installation of version 16.3, the displayed compressed file size is no longer accurate. It varies from perfect to reading 25% too high.
I am editing photo's of documents and I want to make them all the same size after cropping so that when combined into a single pdf they will all be the same size.What is the best way to set the crop feature so my photos will all be the same size as the original paper document they were copied from?

I've tried using an IGES format and exported the part from Inverntor to CREO, and I get the part with the dimensions and everything, but not the sketches or the extrusions,etc. Just the plain part.Also used the .g and .neu , and still nothing.

I have an ipart which is being controlled by an external spreadsheet. Each cell references a cell within a spreadsheet on my local drive. I have a set a parameters that are used to completely define each part but I am also interested in some of the reference parameters (from driven dimensions) so that I can analyze relationships between reference and input parameters. Is it possible (without extensive programming in windows VB or other) to export data from this iPart into, prefereably, the driving spreadsheet or another spreadsheet?

If I make some design changes I need these dimensions to update too. The problem is they do not automatically update and require a manual activation of each child memeber for the dimension to update.

Using Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7. How do I get a photo file (jpg) to print at specific dimensions? For instance, I have a file open in Photoshop and it's dimensions are: width-3872 pixels and height-2592 pixels. I want to print and have the print size be 10 inches by 8 inches without distorting the image.

Resize to fit - Long Edge - 960 pixels - 300ppi - Don´t enlarge
Portrait results: Width_640 x Height_960Landscape results: Width_1440 x Height_960
Lowering ppi to 240 results in the dimensions coming out right
A fellow photographer tested the same on Windows 7 and gets expected results.
I saw what appears to be the same issue in a thread from april 2011, but that thread died without a solution.
Is this a bug in the Mac version? Does it have to do with the ppi and is LR4.1 actually doing it right?
I've read several times that the only way to get a custom book size in the book module is to edit/create one in Illustrator or Scribus. In this interview with Kevin Tieskoetter he mentions that he would be documenting this process, so I imagine it's allready doable.
"All of the templates we ship with Lightroom are made using Illustrator, and I'll be documenting the process for creating those. We've also successfully made templates using InDesign and the freeware tool called Scribus, so if you need templates in different sizes, you'll have a range of options."

I want to try this. But where do I find the files that I'm to edit? Where do they reside on my computer? I'm using a Mac OSX 10.6.8 and can't seems to find anything that resembles tenplate files.
I have exported photos to my harddrive as jpegs that are less than 1mb but when I try to upload them for an assignment on the school website they are 25 mb??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a picture package I want to create. This needs to be the same image on different sized outputs. But you can only create a print package with one custom file size. Is there a way of setting LR to print to different sizes?
I know I can select page size as master size, and print with different sized cells on each page, but I actually want the page size to be different.
For example
page 1 = 8x10 page size, with 8x10 cell
page 2 = 8x12 page size with 8x12 cell
page 3 = 8x6 page size with 8x6 cell
page 4 = 8x6 page size with 2 of 4x6 cells.
I single image, printed on 4 different size pages...
Could you modify the LRtemplate file? Its the global settings bit that concerns me, I dont want a global setting of
_globalSettings = {customFileHeight = 576,customFileWidth = 432,I could do with these file dimensions different for each print.
Can it be done?? has it been done??

When i apply a preset to a photo, then export it ... the file i end up with is significanatly smaller than my original file ? These same presets resulted in as large / or in most cases larger files sizes in previous versions of lightroom ...

Professional wedding photographers do not use blurb books or albums. We NEED BIGGER ALBUM SIZES for printing in other companies than blurb!
Since LR3 we are asking this feature. It's better to do everything in LR than have to jump to other programs to just do an album that we can do in LR. Besides that, everything stays in the same catalog for future printings.
When I export a Xara P&GD file as a PDF, none of the photo edits make it through. I cropped & lightened a lot and they show up as the original darker version. I did "save" the file and all its editing prior to exporting it.

I'm trying to create an album design that has a grid effect with all the images I have. But how to put specific dimensions on each layer..I've tried the image size option but its not working - do I need to free transform and try to figure it out dimensions free handed?? Surely not?
