Lightroom :: Copyright Metadata And Printing?
Jul 1, 2013
If I apply copyright metadata to a client's purchased images will this in any way affect their ability to get the files printed (pro-lab or with public-lab) or print them themselves?

I create web galleries using LR 4 and often I am including images from several photographers. I should like to be able to create a copyright watermark which incorporates the photographer's name by setting it to something like Copyright <creator>
Is there a way to achieve this other than setting the copyright on import for each photographer's set?

Exporting a new round of images to my rebuilt photo website this week, and very glad that LR can generate year-specific copyright tags, which are infinitely less cumbersome than my previous tactic of trying to pull copyright metadata from images at the site level.
So far, I'm preferring the watermark layout size consistency of Lightroom's default watermark system over results from the otherwise excellent and flexible LRMogrify2 plugin.
I'd like to either leverage a token to use copyright metadata within custom watermarks or find out how to reposition/restyle the default Simple Copyright Watermark, eg have the Simple Copyright Watermark show up in a font other than Myriad in a different position on my images...
Hope this isn't too obscure or poorly-articulated a first question in these forums.
(Running Lightroom 4.3 on Mac OS 10.75).
l has a tool allowing address of the default fonts for watermarks and other presentation variables in a sideways way through translation settings. It's a strong start, but other fonts are looking even more shoddily rendered by this method. Back to fidding with size and ratio options in LRMogrify2.

I have a copyright template made (using PS CS5) & when I download new images to my iMac it automatically adds this copyright data to each image downloaded.
I have a web page with many images on it I made prior to this. I wish to add my copyright metadata to those images. I have a folder on my desktop which contains all the image copies of what I uploaded to my website. Is there a way I can select all the images in the folder by opening in Bridge and adding the template to all selected at once?
If I could do that, then I would re-upload all the images to my website overwriting the old ones to up date with copyrighted images.

I am using Photoshop CS3 for Windows. I have created a metadata template in Bridge with my contact information and my copyright information, etc. When I created the template the field called Copyright Status was not available but if I open an image and go into File Info by doing Shift-Ctrl-Alt-I the Copyright Status field is available and I can change it from Unknown to Copyrighted. I like this field because it shows the image is Copyrighted (Unknown looks bad and unprofessional) and also when you open the image in PS the © symbol shows at the top of the screen in front of the file name.
Is there a way to create a metadata template where I can have Copyrighted in the Copyright Status field?

I want to print or export the metadata from Photoshop or Bridge for collections of photographs to create a hardcopy of the data to store with the printed images. This is for an archives where we print all digital images received, but do not currently have an easy way of transferring the metadata.

I am unable to generate a copyright symbol for my watermark using Alt 0169 from my PC laptop. One discussion said to not use the numeric keypad. It did not work for either location...numbers at the top of the keyboard or numeric keypad.

I am new to watermarks and am wanting to include the symbol that indicates copyright, rather than the whole word.
I don't know how/where to find this symbol, and how to include it with my watermark.

I've downloaded some new watermarks to my computer (into word) and they will display in my watermark editor in Lightroom 4. However, when I use those downloaded type styles, the copyright symbol displays in the bar below but does not display on my photo. I've also used alt0169 but it still isn't visible on my images.

I'm using Lightroom 4.3 to add a copyright watermarking image (png) to existing tiff files for website use. I have several different png files made using Photoshop Elements, with the copyright text set at different transparencies, eg 20/30/40 percent opacity, so that whichever one I use in Lightroom I can always leave the opacity setting in the watermarking dialog at 100% and the images are scaled proportionally to 35%.
The problem is that every time I export the files after setting the watermark position etc, I notice that there is a noticeable loss of both contrast and colour in the newly made tiff files.
Lightroom 4.3, Windows 7, 64-bit.

40+ years ago I bought a book from a dealer who sold antique Scottish books. It is A4 in size and has 400 B/W photographs of Scotland.
There is no date in the book but the pictures are late 19th century & early 20th century. There is a reference in it regarding the opening of a new railway line. That line was opened in 1908 and I'm guessing the book is circa 1910.
A few years ago I scanned into my computer several of the views. Like a lot of early photographs the skies are almost non existent. I took out the castles, bridges, etc and made up my own skies in KPT 6.
The finished results are A3 in size.
My question is - is the copyright still valid on the book or am I free to do whatever I want with them?
By the way the company who photographed and published the book is still in existence. Also I'm from Scotland but I'm curious as to how the book would stand regarding copyright throughout the world.

How do I convert the colour profile of a Lightroom custom printing package from Adobe Prophoto to sRGB before printing? For that matter, how do I save the thing? I have no interest in saving the template, or the collection separately, since neither has any use without the other. And without saving them as one finished item, I have no way to convert the colour profile of that item. I can see clearly from the appearance of the print preview that the above mentioned colour profile conversion is required.

I use a variety of programs to edit the xmp data (mostly Lightroom and exiftool right now), so I know the importance of the "Automatically write XMP data to file setting" (ON in my case). After a few days (actually more like a week) of writing xmp data and then reading into (or synching folders in) Lightroom, I found a number of "metadata conflicts" in my catalog. Since these are basically impossible to fix for a large catalog (since there is no way to show the files that have conflicts), I started over and created a new catalog, and imported all 40,000+ images into it.
However, with my new catalog (with presumably no metadata conflicts), the first image that I tried to change the metadata on gave me a metadata conflict (presumably when Lightroom tried to save the xmp data after I changed it). This was a jpg file, so the metadata is being (or not being) written into the file. Reading the metadata from the file into Lightroom did not fix the problem. The Metadata Status field in the Lightroom Metadata panel says "Unknown" and clicking on the word "Unknown" brings up a panel saying "There was an unknown error while writing metadata to this photo. Retry?", and neither retrying the save nor importing the settings from disk resolves the conflict.
I think that the problem is that the jpeg is somehow corrupt, because if I save a copy in Photoshop, I can read and write the metadata in that copy. And, the copy has, I think, the same metadata as the original. (Of course, the image is probably imperceptibly degraded because I re-jpeg'd it).
There is no message in Console (I'm on Mac). (See PS)
I am worried that I have a number of files with this kind of problem, I guess I could "Save Metadata" for all files in my catalog (thus updating the file modified date for all 2 TB of data, and causing a massive backup issue), and then look through my catalog for those elusive exclamation points. But I'd like something better.how the jpeg could have gotten corrupted, but I do have an archived version that I could look at.

I have a new Geotagger Pro 2 GPS (Solmeta) and tried it out yesterday. The GPS coordinants are not in the metadata. I do get the elevation and the direction the photo was taken. I tried Updating & Read Metadata in the menu but I still do not get the info. When viewed the photos in the camera, they had the GPS data.

i must have a preset metadata because all my photos have been imported using the created year as 2011, location as London and keyword as travel.
How do I clear the metadata?
all my photos have a date of 1-1-11 and travel as a keyword.
is there a way to change these as a group instead of individually?
is there a way to find the date the photo was taken?

I want to display the IPTC metadata in Lightroom 4 in the same way as in Bridge CS6 so that it only displays the fields I want to use - is this possible without having to install 3rd party software? I've tried the metadata pop-up menu selections but these either omit items I want to see or include many items which I don't use. I bought Lightroom because it was designed for photographers but I am discovering that there are a number of areas where it is not as flexible as Bridge.

I am transitioning to using RAW files more often. I add metadata, including GPS info, captions etc. Then invariably I need to get JPEGs to someone and have to go through the hassle of exporting the RAW as a JPEG with the metadata.
Is there a way I can get that metadata into the sorta sidecar JPEG file on my Mac without having to go through the export process?
I suppose I could designate the preference that on import the RAW and JPEG were treated as separate files; could I then just copy the metadata in? I haven't really worked with separate JPEG+RAW before. Would it happen automatically if I stacked them? Haven't really explored that.
It just seems that every time I have decided to use the RAW invariably I need the JPEG and if I don't have LR available (say I'm working on someone else's computer but accessing my own files)
