Lightroom :: Adding To Or Editing Metadata Fields In 5?
Oct 28, 2013I have a number of photos in LR that came from a older non-digital camera or scanner and I would like to be able to add some information to the metadata like camera make and model but some of the fileds are not visible unless the data was brought into LR at import. Other fields in the metal data cannot be over written or corrected. I would like to be able to do global editing to my metadata but I can't even modify one. I read some postings going back to 2007 on a forum here but I don't think anything has changed.

Sep 3, 2012I use 2 external editors in my work. Nik SilverEfex Pro 2 and Portrait Professional. SE creates Tiffs to work on, PP creates PSD files. I can use both plugins fine and export and tweak my images. However, my problems start on the re-import stage.
So, I'm working in a Filtered list of files. They are filtered by the couples name (its a wedding). So I only see this couples wedding. I edit the files externally and they re-import. But - here's the problem, they don't show up. First off I thought that perhaps the metadata was not copied over. But it is. If I clear all filters, the images are there in the library. They also have all the metadata attached correctly and the star rating too. But, if I use the couples name to filter again - they refuse to appear in the selected group.
Solution - quit LR and restart it. Now they appear!The metadata clearly hasn't changed, it was clearly there. You can read the correct keywords are there assigned to the images, but the filter refuses to see those keywords until the program is restarted. As I dip in and out of SilverEfex many, many times during a wedding edit - this is infuriating to say the least.

Mar 4, 2013I have a copyright template made (using PS CS5) & when I download new images to my iMac it automatically adds this copyright data to each image downloaded.
I have a web page with many images on it I made prior to this. I wish to add my copyright metadata to those images. I have a folder on my desktop which contains all the image copies of what I uploaded to my website. Is there a way I can select all the images in the folder by opening in Bridge and adding the template to all selected at once?
If I could do that, then I would re-upload all the images to my website overwriting the old ones to up date with copyrighted images.

Jan 22, 2009I am using Photoshop CS3 for Windows. I have created a metadata template in Bridge with my contact information and my copyright information, etc. When I created the template the field called Copyright Status was not available but if I open an image and go into File Info by doing Shift-Ctrl-Alt-I the Copyright Status field is available and I can change it from Unknown to Copyrighted. I like this field because it shows the image is Copyrighted (Unknown looks bad and unprofessional) and also when you open the image in PS the © symbol shows at the top of the screen in front of the file name.
Is there a way to create a metadata template where I can have Copyrighted in the Copyright Status field?
Premiere Pro :: Saving / Adding Data To XMP File Metadata
Dec 12, 2013In the past I've been successful adding and storing metadata to the 'Description' column in the project window in the past with the 'Link' symbol activated in the Metadata panel under 'ile'>Dublin Core>>Description. This would allow me to retain the description metadata when the media is imported into a different project.
However I am using this same procedure this week, but the data does not seem to be saving/adding to the XMP 'File' metadata. See screen shot below. I've experienced this problem within different proejcts and with the three main media types in our production house: XDCAM EX, P2 MXF and Ikegami MXF.
Why this would work previously, but not now? Is it related to the latest version updates?
This is a PC, Windows 7 system.

Aug 23, 2010I'm using Corel Draw X5 and I can't figure out how to add or edit colours in the CMYK (default) Custom Colour Palette. In X3 and earlier versions it was quite easy to add new colours and edit existing ones. I would also like to know how to move the order of the colours in the palette so that I can put one a custom colour near the top.
FYI I would like make these changes to the master / global CMYK palette, not just the one for a specific document palette.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Error Adding Breakline Message When Editing Surface With Feature Lines
Jul 11, 2012I am working on a 6 mile highway project whose surface file is 85MB big. So, I created a Data Shortcut of this surface and used this for creating profiles. However, at some locations the corridors go below the surface(as per their original profile) which was not intended. So, I need to restrict the surface to follow the corridors but not go beyond it.
I have created feature lines from corridors and tried to add them as breaklines to the surface. But " error adding breakline" error pops up.
Is it because I am trying to add the breaklines to the mirror surface which I created from Data Shortcut ??
Will it be useful if I copy feature lines to original surface file and add these feature lines as breaklines in that file??

Lightroom :: Getting XMP Metadata Sorted Out?
Aug 10, 2011I use a variety of programs to edit the xmp data (mostly Lightroom and exiftool right now), so I know the importance of the "Automatically write XMP data to file setting" (ON in my case). After a few days (actually more like a week) of writing xmp data and then reading into (or synching folders in) Lightroom, I found a number of "metadata conflicts" in my catalog. Since these are basically impossible to fix for a large catalog (since there is no way to show the files that have conflicts), I started over and created a new catalog, and imported all 40,000+ images into it.
However, with my new catalog (with presumably no metadata conflicts), the first image that I tried to change the metadata on gave me a metadata conflict (presumably when Lightroom tried to save the xmp data after I changed it). This was a jpg file, so the metadata is being (or not being) written into the file. Reading the metadata from the file into Lightroom did not fix the problem. The Metadata Status field in the Lightroom Metadata panel says "Unknown" and clicking on the word "Unknown" brings up a panel saying "There was an unknown error while writing metadata to this photo. Retry?", and neither retrying the save nor importing the settings from disk resolves the conflict.
I think that the problem is that the jpeg is somehow corrupt, because if I save a copy in Photoshop, I can read and write the metadata in that copy. And, the copy has, I think, the same metadata as the original. (Of course, the image is probably imperceptibly degraded because I re-jpeg'd it).
There is no message in Console (I'm on Mac). (See PS)
I am worried that I have a number of files with this kind of problem, I guess I could "Save Metadata" for all files in my catalog (thus updating the file modified date for all 2 TB of data, and causing a massive backup issue), and then look through my catalog for those elusive exclamation points. But I'd like something better.how the jpeg could have gotten corrupted, but I do have an archived version that I could look at.
Lightroom :: GPS Data Not In Metadata
Feb 23, 2014I have a new Geotagger Pro 2 GPS (Solmeta) and tried it out yesterday. The GPS coordinants are not in the metadata. I do get the elevation and the direction the photo was taken. I tried Updating & Read Metadata in the menu but I still do not get the info. When viewed the photos in the camera, they had the GPS data.

Sep 5, 2013I am transitioning to using RAW files more often. I add metadata, including GPS info, captions etc. Then invariably I need to get JPEGs to someone and have to go through the hassle of exporting the RAW as a JPEG with the metadata.
Is there a way I can get that metadata into the sorta sidecar JPEG file on my Mac without having to go through the export process?
I suppose I could designate the preference that on import the RAW and JPEG were treated as separate files; could I then just copy the metadata in? I haven't really worked with separate JPEG+RAW before. Would it happen automatically if I stacked them? Haven't really explored that.
It just seems that every time I have decided to use the RAW invariably I need the JPEG and if I don't have LR available (say I'm working on someone else's computer but accessing my own files)
