Can I apply the meta data to the files when I am not connected to the physical storage place of the files? Are the meta data stored in the catalogue or are they somehow connected to the actual data file??
View 3 RepliesSince today I'm using "Lightroom 5.3 RC for Windows". When I export to jpg the Exif meta data contain a Exif tag "Software", the value is "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.0 (Windows)". Why doesn't this tag show the version number "5.3" (or "5.3 RC")?This behaviour has been at all prior Lightroom versions I know.

That is about it for my application....so far and like I say it is just for web images at this point. At any rate to me surprise I did not realize how much the meta data added to file size.I had assumed it was minimal but in fact that is not the case. Meta data ends up adding a lot.
Question:
So is there a way in Photoshop to see what the final file size will be with the meta data included as I have found, so far, is the image itself file size when I view the
"Saving for Web & Devices" menu screen.Also tried the "Info" menu and neither indicate the meta data additions into an images file size.
One of the reasons is, of course, that I would like to get as many keywords in there as possible, as an example lets say this was the logo or site's header and they have a lot of different products.
The more keywords the better the SEO results will be. I am sure this statement in itself is disputable but as of now 5/2013 it appears that way as far as SE's are concerned.Tested this extensively and the result were remarkable, but that is another story.
I have Photoshop 10.0 (Windows XP) and use it to edit my photos from my new Nikon D300 camera. I create and maintain my images in JPG format. My D300 includes 40 to 50 camera info/metadata elements including the camera and lens settings at the time the photo is taken.
When I do a simple "Save As" in Photoshop 10 to a new JPG file (whether image adjustments are done to the source image or not), the new JPG file is stripped of about half or more of the original metadata. Is there a Photoshop setting or plug-in that will force the software to preserve/retain the original metadata?
We are moving from 2006 AutoCAD Map to 2013 Map 3D. When I do an overlay of files in 2013 Map 3D which was (X-REF) in 2006 the files don’t align, some do some don’t. I didn’t have that problem in 2006 or any other software. I have tried adding a coordinate system to the file to see if it mattered but it didnt unless I'm doing it wrong. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to clean up some things on my PC concerning Lightroom. I just came across 3 files in my Lightroom folder, the folder where my Catalog file and the Preview folders are located.
Those 3 files are:
Temporary Import Data.db, 40 kb, modified 09/03/12
Temporary Import Data-2.db, 12,331 kb, modified 11/04/12
Temporary Import Data-2.db-journal, 986 kb, modified 11/04/12
Second, looks like they are just temporary files....can I delete them?
I am having a strange issue with LR 5.3 however this issue could have been here before and I never noticed. Over the years I have been using the gps4cam app on either my iPhone or Android phone to track GPS data. For the most part I have never had serious issues with the data and the tracking results. I was away a few weeks ago shooting images and using gps4cam and have found some strange behavior in LR after reviewing images.
All images shot with my Canon 5D MK III and then tagged with gps4cam work perfectly in Lightroom both in showing the data and displaying fairly accurately in the Maps module. However images shot on my Canon EOS-M and tagged with the same GPS data either don't show the data (almost like it doesn't exist) at all in LR 5.3 or are completely off when viewed on maps. If I open these same images in Geosetter, they show accurate position and location on the maps.
I don't do a lot of Geotagging of my images except when I travel and didn't want to have to buy the Canon GPS Device.
For years I have been using Bridge and ACR for my raw workflow. I use only DNG files and have the database turned off so the EXIF data is embedded right into the original DNG file. This means my files are 100% portable without and sidecar.
Can I work with lightroom 4 without having a database? OR can I assure that each DNG file has all it's setting automatically embedded as it does in Bridge?
I have just bought a Panasonic GH3 which is able to sync and add GPS data to images from my phone to the camera.
On importing the files to LR 4.3, the GPS and Altitude sections of EXIF remain blank. On the import preset I use, the Camera Info section is all unticked.
If I go to the folder where I store my image files (the folder which LR catalogues) after the import and drop the file on to Exiftool, all the GPS information is listed there. That is, the LR import RW2->DNG has retained the information. It is there but not displayed.
I'm using 3.6. Can I delete LR2 cat, data and journal files?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is for Mac OS 10.3 CS2- One of my sources for photos has recently been routing jpeg's where I receive the prompt: "This file contains file info data which cannot be read and has been ignored."
Nothing earth shattering there, probably a meta field CS2 is having issues with. The issue I encounter, is when I try to save it as a .psd I receive the prompt: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
The file is otherwise complete, and there is no truncating. I've tossed it into bridge, which isn't my strong point, and can't seem to find anything that screams anomalous there.
I've got a work around where I can save the file as a tif prior to my edits, then open it, edit, save as a .psd... So this is more of a curiosity item for me. Has anyone seen anything similar to this? Would it be a meta issue or something in their jpeg processing that causes this?
Well, ran into an interesting filter result which looks similar to molten metal or something you would get with meta balls in a 3d program. Preety easy to get it too, just use your filter-render-fibers (default setting will work) then your filter-sketch-plaster (again, default settings may work) and whola. Playing with the setting in the plaster window will give you more or less metal as you see fit. Simple and maybe of some use to some...

Click Home tab > Data panel > Import From Files > mapimport.
Problem is, when I do this, I do not get the dialog that the help file says I should, like a place to define an insert layer or schema. All I get is the plain dialog that asks for formatting (file format such as autodesk up loadable file), Z unit, Coordinate system, and create block.
I also want to export the attribute data into a survey point file.
I've been given GIS data from a county and trying to design a water line using it. I have the .shp files for all the structures, roads, addresses, parcels, etc. bu the utilties are in a .mdb file. How do I use the .mdb to show the line work for the existing water line.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a humanoid mesh (it was originally a editable poly, but I think I converted it to an editable mesh), and I have a bipedal rig (the Man variant of the default) that is fitted to the mesh. I just cant figure out for the life of me how to attach the mesh to the rig. All of the tutorials I've seen are for older versions of 3ds, and use physique. When I apply physique to the mesh and hit "attach to node" nothing happens, and its all downhill from there. Could one of you good people point me in the direction of a tutorial for 3ds Max 2013?

Just wondering if this is possible with Map3D? She normally gets someone in another office to do it, he uses an ArcGIS addon to take the data of the surface and converts it. The result is a bunch of ADF files and an XML file.

I am preparing 3D model of a 354 acres campus area. I am using AutoCAD Map 3D 2011. I have extruded all the building as AutoCAD drawing objects. I have also imported DEM of the area into AutoCAD. Now, how can I use this DEM to specify the Earth surface elevation or surface profile of my 3D building models so that all my 3D buildings read the Earth surface profile information from DEM.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know DXF files can be saved as DWGs then used as XREFs but that isn't the goal we want to achieve.
We are a big steel fabrication shop and we run a plasma machine that accepts DXF files. What we want to do is be able to draw our parts as a DXF ready for the plasma then XREF them into an overall drawing to assure all of our pieces line up. Each piece will be a separate DXF.
We want them to be XREFs so that if one needs to be manipulated it can be done on the spot without having to reattach a block. The more files you have to open and manipulate the more room for error.
The only way I can come up with is to draw all pieces as individual DWG files, then XREF each one into their own DXF file as well as XREFing them all into an overall file to check that they all line up.
working in Cad 2012, and used to 'bind' images to the file, but can't find that function. Doing standard details and need to include the images in the file for access on a global drive, so it has to be a self-contained file.

Now, I need to do the following;
attach XCdrg1.dwg to Drawing1.dwg

attach XCdrg3.dwg to Drawing3.dwg
..etc...
What is the quickest method? Script? (I have approximately 800 drawings and 800 xrefs and for CAD management reasons they need to be individual drawing files)
I have been sent some drawings with came in 2 zip files. 1 zip contains the floorplans. the other contains the sheets.
if i load the sheet, it will tell me the drawing is missing in a pop up box with a status of "not found". i f i try to attach it nothing happens.
