GIMP :: 2.6 How Best To Create Stencil From The Layer
Oct 1, 2012Maybe 2.8 has this option already, ive already downloaded just not installed it. i plan on doing it when ive finished this little personal project im working on.
Im having trouble finding anyway to assign a layer as a layer mask.
this all started because i want to create a gray scale bump map of my texture map. so i duplicated it and decompose it into separate RGB gryscale layers and the alpha layer.
problem is, the alpha is no longer the alpha. what i ideally would like, is to combine the alpha with which ever combination of the channels i decide to use. then paste that back into my original file as the bump map.... so far not having luck

Dec 29, 2012I am attempting to create a street art style stencil graphic to put on a t-shirt using Illustrator (note, not an actual stencil for spray painting, just the visual effect of one). I was able to make something similar in photoshop, but pixelation issues lead me to attempt a vector style graphic. The overlying "stencil" image is a complex vector object and the underlying "paint" layer is a series of semi-transparent paint splatter vector groups to get a more textured effect. I am doing it this way because, I have not been able to find any graffiti style brushes that work the same way as those in photoshop. The problem I am having is that when I attempt to make a clipping mask of these objects to be left with just the desired "paint" areas, there is a message about the complexity of this operation, and the result is total disappearance of all the objects, except for their paths. better way to get a vector graffiti stencil effect with texture?

May 1, 2011The image below has been touched up (i have cleaned up the lines with the "line/curve tool"), and even redrawn some lines.As you can see, the background is white. How to use the background (all the white) as a "stencil". this way i can use a bold brush to "airbrush" some shading and shadows onto her body, without having to worry about it spraying outside of the lines. i know it can be done, i have done it myself in fact, i just can't remember how. Jun 12, 2012i need to make a 'stencil' of sorts that is a solid 1.5mm thick disk (about 30mm in diameter) with 200um holes (separated by 500um - i.e. 500um distance between each hole)
Things I've tried:I tried to make a 2D footprint of this stencil and then extrude the entire thing. My computer crashed! i guess the ram needed for this is too much.
I made a 200um diameter circle, extruded it into a 1.5mm 'pillar', arrayed these pillars, then placed a 30mm diameter, 1.5mm high solid disk around the array and made a block. When i exported it to an stl format, it didn't recognize the design as a disk with holes, but as an array of pillars.
I tried to make the disk first. draw one 200um circle and presspull it to form one hole - but i can't seem to array that hole in this disk!! If I have to make an array of these circles and presspull them one at a time, i'll die before i finish the stencil.
GIMP :: 2.8.2 - Can't Access Stencil Chrome Filter

When i go to filters-decor i see both the Stencil chrome and Stencil carve options grayed out.
I of course made sure no alpha channel is present , and my picture is black and white ( jpg).
Is there a way to get this filter to work, or do i need to go to photoshop ?
Photoshop :: Layer And Cutting Problems Making A Stencil
Apr 9, 2009i'm a complete noob on PS... Using CS4 and i'm trying to make a stencil using threshold method. I've been following a tutorial by melissaclifton if you know it but am having problems. She says to duplicate the layer, drag a solid colour between them, and then cut away the background using pen tool.
I cut the image, after inversing it, and in the thumbnail it looks ok, but in the main view nothinjg happens. I expected to be able to see the solid colour backgroud as sooon as I hit delete. Cutting the image also caused me a few problems!
Does anyone know any other stencil and/ or simple layer cutting tutorials? I've searched a lot and am starting to lose patience.. Thought it would be simple (maybe it is!).

Jun 29, 2013Can a PTEX vector displacement map be used as a stencil or stamp? If not, what's the workflow for going from a PTEX sculpt to a vector displacement texture (e.g. TIFF) that can be used as a stencil / sculpt.
The problem I'm experiencing is that I sculpted a plane with PTEX and exported a PTEX vector displacement map, however, when I go to the Image Browser to attempt to use it as a stencil or stamp the PTEX file does not show up. The only files I can see in the browser are TIFF, PNG, etc. If I change the Output Options > Map Type to from PTEX to Texture I get an error: "At least on target model has been set up for PTEX. You must select PTEX format(*.ptx) for maps extracted using this target."

Lightroom :: Can't Create New Catalog In 3.6
Aug 25, 2013All of a sudden, Lightroom 3.6 won't create a new catalog for me. It worked for years but stopped working for no reason I can figure. I fill in the new catalog name in the dialog, click Save, then Lighroom restarts but tells me it can't find the new catalog name I just created. When I look in Explorer, I see that the folder has been created, but the catalog files were not.
Also, Lightroom didn't remember the last catalog opened when it starts. To test this, I located and opened a previous catalog, made some changes and quit Lightroom. When I restarted, it did not recall the previous catalog, but opened a much older one. I went to Edit->Preferences and changed the "open" setting to "Prompt me" (for a catalog name on open) but that didn't stick either.

May 30, 2012I'm using LR3 for a couple of weeks and I'm facing problems to create successfully a new webalbum. After Keying in the ftp-server details LR3 is unable to upload the pic's to the server. I've tried to upload the pics via Filezilla which works perfectly fine, means no problem with my provider or data connection or even with my iMac.

Mar 4, 2014There is this outsourced company, that I use for editing, and I export from my raw files to dng so I can send it to them, They edit in lightroom, and they return xmp sidecar files with the edits that I simply apply back to my raw files.
Now I want to train another person on remote location to do the editing instead of using the company i used to use, and I'm trying to replicate this process.
The problem is, from all I read, you can't create xmp from dng files, so how did they do it? Is there another program that can save the xmp data out of dng? or did they conver the dng that I gave them to another format so that they can write xmp files out?

Dec 8, 2012I purchased Lightroom 4.2 about 3 weeks ago and its been operating smoothly. As of a week ago I am no longer able to create a new catalog. When I first installed this program I was able to create new catalogs just fine, then suddenly I could not anymore. I click "file", "new catalog" then I select a new folder in which to create the catalog, but the button that says "create" is greyed out and unclickable.
I'm using a mid 2010 Mac Air (OSX 10.7.5) and Lightroom 4.2. All my catalogs are stored on a 1.5 TB external hard drive, so now I can't even use Lightroom unless I'm connected to this hard drive (since I can't create a new catalog I have to select an existing catalog to start the program, all of which are housed on the external hard drive.)

Nov 9, 2011There was a special offer here with Groupon for printed canvasas, I've stocked up as there were a couple of images I always wanted blown up to +/- A1 size. However, I bought more than I needed. With the couple I have left, my plan is to create a collage of photos from my collection and then have it printed.
My question is, what software package is best for this? We had a professional photo shoot done a couple of months ago, and the photographer used Lightroom when we he was displaying the pictures for us to choose, and I presume that this would also have been used for the editing and creating the collage?
I'm not after anything fancy, just something that is realitvely easy to use, and let's me drag and drop them into a template. photos are all in either 16:9 or 6:4 ratio, and my plan was to have just simple rows of photos going along?
