Any way to automatically fill a blank document with placed items making it multiple up?
A simple example would be a business card that I designed in InDesign. I have the margins, document size and bleed edges set, I would like to place them multiple up on various sizes to see what size would hold the most to trim. 8up typically go on a letter sized document etc. But now many could I fit on 12"x18", etc.
What I am trying to accomplish not having to align each one manually which is slowing my work flow down. Plus when customers have odd sized documents they want cut and padded etc, having the abilitiy for the software to automatically place items that are all alligned by their trim edges would save a lot of proofing and re laying items out.
The idea comes from my Silouette Cameo personal cutting plotter. The software lets you fill the cut area with a design and it is filled equally.
There has to be a way commercial users can do this with out figuring all the math?
A netwrok group policy has kicked in on my machine (which I have managed to evade for 2 years) and the recently opened items has stopped displaying. The recent items options in Preferences>File handling is also greyed out. The recently opened items in the Start menu>properties is greyed out too. I know its the policy that is the root cause.
The list does not generate at all, even while I am active in the program.
However, Illustrator and Photoshop are still recalling the recently opened files as they normally would. While I know they are all different programs this gives me hope that there is a slim chance I can find a work around? Maybe redirecting where the data is saved or somethign along those lines?
Running CS5.5 Master Collection, Windows 7.just to add there is nothing in the group policy that is specifically directed at Indesign as i am the only person that has it.
We're running InDesign CS6 (version 8.0.1) in my office. When we override and delete a master page item from a page then save out the PDF, the deleted item still shows up in the PDF.
Example: We typeset a string of 250 trading cards. Each card is a separate page, in a single InDesign document, and are all based on one of several possible master pages. On the master page for a given card there are some graphic elements like symbols and directional arrows. During typesetting on a card that uses that specific master page we find one of the pointing arrows needs to be oriented in a different direction. We override the existing arrow and delete it, then replace it with the correct arrow (the arrows are placed graphics). The old arrow is no longer visible in the InDesign file. When it comes time to export the file for the printer we run a script that exports each page as a separate PDF. When we proof the PDFs, the card with the arrow adjustment still shows the deleted arrow, it is visible beneath the new arrow. If we save out that page by itself (with the script or manually), this problem doesn't occur. It only happens when we save out the entire set of cards at once or as a single, multi-page PDF. Though we typically use a script for the export, we still get the same result if we don't use the script.
I just installed Indesign CC on a new Mac laptop (I can provide specs if needed), and when I open ID *all* menu items are greyed out. I can't create a new file, open legacy files, or even quit the app (force quit only). I have not installed any plugins. Other CC programs work fine.
Is it possible to do a multiple-records data merge that doesn't generate multiple text boxes? And if so, how?
For publications such as a directory with contact information, it would be easier to manage the layout by merging multiple records into one text box. However, it seems like the only option in InDesign is to merge the records into each of their own text boxes.
Indesign CS6: I've years of extensive experience using Master Pages. Now, however, when I insert a single page in a facing page document, the headers shift off the page. I've tried everything I can think of to stop this. I'm not using liquid layout or any of those layout things.
This is very problematic as I do textbooks with hundreds of graphics and I either have to manually move all the master page items on every page after an insertion; or I have to shift all graphics manually to the next page after moving those to the next page, and the next, and so on.
I'm praying this is just a "hey, you must have X set to X and by deselecting it you'll be fine."
No matter what command i try in autocad (move, erase, copy, etc)..i can only select one item at a time. When i choose one item it goes dashed (as they normally do), but when i click the second item the first one i chose goes back to solid and if i press return only the second item i selected if affected. Similarly if i choose 3 items , it forgets the first two and only keeps the third one.. Is this an Autocad options thing or a windows Mouse thing?
Is there any way that Autocad can have multiple items placed on the clipboard for insertion use like the Microsoft Office Word program has (up to 24 inputs). This would be a good feature to allow going to one file, copying what you need and then switching to your current drawing file and placing them as needed.
Suddenly I can only select one item at a time. If I move onto another item, the first one de-selects. I haven't knowingly made any changes. What has happened and how to put it right? I can select multiple items via 'click and drag', but only within one drag - another drag then de-selects the first drag again.
Is there a way to resize multiple items of different sizes all at once? Say I have five boxes measuring 1", 2", 3", 4" and 5" but i want them all to measure 6", is there a way to resize them all at once?
I am using a MacBook laptop without external mouse and on Maya 2013 I could select multiple outliner items with the CMD + ALT keys. Since Maya 2014, this does not work anymore. how I can multi-select ? (I am not talking about the SHIFT key because my items are not contiguous).
A quick way to add a single column to multiple items in the Content Center? The column would be the same across the board, and I really don't want to edit several hundred family tables one at a time if I don't have to.
How can I get width that multiple selected items? (Not grouped.)
//---------- source code ---------- var mm = 2.83464566929134 //unit conversion. (point->milimeter) var W = docRef.selection[0].width/mm; alert(W); //---------- source code ----------
I have script where I select items on multiple artboard but I can't seem to get get active art board of the selected item. Is this possible?
each artboard has a text item and I would like them in the same position on each of their own artboards that they are already one. right now it adjusts them all to one artboard. here is what I have so far
doc = app.activeDocument; for(i = 0; i < selection.length; i++){ var firstItemPosition = doc.selection[0].position; doc.selection[i].position = firstItemPosition; var activeArtboardIndex = doc.artboards.getActiveArtboardIndex(); alert(activeArtboardIndex); }
I need to quickly obtain a count of all entities on a layer, or preferably multiple layers. In this instance all the entities will be hatches so that should make it a bit easier.
I'm aware I can use quickselect but if there was a routine that would select all hatch entities on screen (multiple layers) and provide a count per layer that would be much quicker.

I have a small sublimation business whereby I print photo's onto small personalised gifts such as mugs, phone covers fridge magnets. I print out the images to fit the size of the gift i.e. a phone cover or mug the images are a specific size.
Often I want to print multiple items onto one page each with a customised size as the paper is expensive and I need to make the most of every sheet. I can't figure out how to do this in photoshop elements 12. I am using windows XP
In CS6, will the English version of InDesign still require purchasing a separate program for Japanese, or will it be able to handle both? CS5 and earlier could only handle the most rudimentary of typesetting tasks for Japanese.
I've got a document on 24 pages. On each pages I've got a textbox with the exact same text, formatting etc.It is already set up to easily change the formatting on all boxes at once, but what if I want to change the text? Do I have to manually change it on each page or is there a clever and easy way to set the textboxes up to change the text in them all at once?
I would like to make an object appear (one animation) and then have it move around (another animation) but can't seem to find a way to apply more than one animation to a single object.
What I need to be able to do is insert the SOURCE fieldnames/placeholders throughout a document and then depending on what language I select (either through a text variable, or manual selection), the translated terms are automatically inserted in place.
I'm working with InDesign CS5.5 on a Mac and need to import multiple images into separate layers. The imprint project has a base layer template and several company logos that need to go into their own layer. Is there a way to bring all the logos in at once and have them create their own layer without manually creating each layer and placing images one by one? Can InDesign do this automatically or is there a script? I can't seem to find a way to automate this process.
Dialog box:"The active document uses multiple page sizes Print Booklet works only with documents that use a consistent page size."OK, but the page sizes are all the same.
1) I am going to consistently need to merge into a document that I will also set up with mulitple records with the same margins, spacing, etc. Is there a way to 'save' templates so I don't have to start over each time I create a multiple record layout??
2) If I want to merge in a single document, but have the same column 'name' laid out various time, do I keep inserting 'name' from the data source? How will it know to proceed to the next one on the list and not repeat the same one over and over?
I am hoping to link text items between pages and items in the drawing such as elevations?
So, ideally, I would have a front page to my drawing set, and this would have a 'Contents' type table on it, with the title name of each drawing in one column, then the drawing number in the next column. This is the tricky bit, someone must know: If i was to change the name / number of any item in this table, could it change also (linked to) the following items:
Drawing title (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Drawing number (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Elevation call-out (on the plan view)
And possibly:
Excel reference cell
Drawing layout tab title (this might be pushing it!!)
Perhaps this could be done by linking to an external Excel spreadsheet with these titles modified in there? I'm not sure. This would be ideal as typing into excel is a lot easier than the triple click text modify method required currently.
I waste a lot of time renaming and updating sheet names / titles / numbers. Are there standard templates for drawing sets that may have this built in available anywhere that I could try?
